Informally, some of their supporters have reached out to Georgetown All American, Kenan McWhorter. Kenan coached our WRs & DBs this past fall at Anderson County. His knowledge base and ability to relate to kids is through the roof. I would hate to lose him, but he would be a great hire for the Wolverines.

Our 2009 team was ranked #1 and undefeated. Neal got hurt in week 10. We thought 2010 was better than 2009 and we lost Neal in this game. Both those were tough to take. But, we also made a big schematic/execution mistake in that game that we did not catch until after the game. We worked all winter/spring to correct it going forward. And, when we face a similar offense, we are especially aware of how it should be played and watch for that mistake...it is a killer. Not the reason we lost but sure made it tougher. Man... 1992... visited a Highlands practice the week they were getting ready for Ashland in the playoffs. Tom Duffy was the head coach. Sitting in his office before practice, asked him why he had switched from the triple option to the wing-t. He told me that running the triple, if his QB got hurt, the season was over. Not so with the wing-t. Defensive Line included Rob Reynolds & John Schlarman. Watched their D-Line scheme period. Crazy good and efficient. Feel bad I don't remember all the names, but not sure I ever saw a more talented defensive front on one HS team. Think they were off the field in barely over an hour. Meticulously organized practice. That team went on to win the state title. 2003, we played Ashland to win the region, but came up a TD short the next week at Highlands. Good luck to both teams Friday night.

Congratulations Coach! We had him on our podcast, June of 2023. Impressive. If you heard him, you knew great things were ahead for the Thoroughbreds.

I believe Coach Haywood may have done the same thing. There was nothing more important to him than his relationship with Jesus Christ. Good grief I miss him. It is really not the same without him this November. 2010 we played Belfry in the 2nd round at our place. Neal Pawsat threw a TD to tie it up at 7-7. He got hurt on the next defensive series. We jumped in our HOG (Wildcat) and our guys played their guts out. But, it was a tough loss. Thankful that at least one time, I was on the sideline across from Coach. His legacy will have ETERNAL significance because of all the people that became followers of Jesus Christ through his influence & example.

Go CATS! My son, Trosper, is a student assistant at UK. He works on the offensive side of the ball and signals in the plays.

The DC for Taylor County is William Harris. He won the Broyles Award, not too long ago, as the top assistant football coach in the state of Kentucky. He is an excellent young football coach. He is also a high character man, wonderful friend, husband & father. If a football program has an opening for a head coach after the 2025 season, I would go after William with both barrels. He is young and has a very bright future ahead of him. I am admittedly biased, but I think he is the next Chuck Smith. Comparable to Coach Smith in regards to energy, creativity, commitment to fundamentals, attention to detail, never say day attitude, intelligence, ability to communicate with young people, motivated to bring out the best in those around him, I could go on. This picture, William is in the middle. To his right is our DC, Chris Crawley-Goodman. I can say the same things about Chris, but sure hope I can keep him at ACHS. William was my shadow at Mercer County for 7 years. Then, Chris was William's shadow when they were both at Mercer. These guys have a desire to be elite and a motor to get there. It has been my experience, young coaches that truly want to be great, are not denied. I would also add, they are a dying breed. Many of the young coaches these days, and old as well, can get bored with the tedious parts of the grind that are demanded to be your very best. These guys embrace that grind and cannot get enough of it.

Mike has been a good friend of mine for a long time. First time our teams have played each other. He does a super job and it was fun to see him at the coin toss. Both defenses were strong. As you said, our mistakes were more than we could overcome. Both teams played their guts out. Anyone who bought a ticket got their money's worth. Our seniors have been through alot. In regards to effort and heart, a great way to end their HS career. In regards to the scoreboard, not the case. We played DeSales when I was at Mercer. Have always liked that program. Even when they were struggling in 2021, they played hard and were first class.

Our interview with Coach Dantzler is up. Thought it went well. Chuck and I really want to do a good job w/ our podcast. We reached out for feedback. Some positive. Some critical. All of it can make us better. A theme that came up more than once was that the Brotherhood we share among Coaches came through. Interesting insight that I agree is present, but take for granted. Reminded me a little of Coach Saban taking up for Coach Franklin this weekend. Coach Dantzler will land on his feet and do well going forward. He says he is going to try to be a Dad as well while his son goes through the recruiting process. After 33 years of being a head coach and watching my Dad as a head football coach, I am a little surprised that tension between the head coach and administration doesn't escalate more often than it appears to happen.

We plan to do a special episode on the podcast with Coach Dantzler to talk about his departure from Central. Will keep you guys posted. We have done OTAs w/ Central since my Mercer County days. Have also worked w/ Coach Dantzler through our KFCA Elected Council. I am a huge Marvin Dantzler fan. He brings fresh ideas to the table from his experiences in other states. He coaches his kids hards but takes great care of them. After our OTA this year, he took the entire team to the movies and to eat. People don't always see this side of a Coach. I am thankful my path has crossed with his and he will be successful going forward. I wish the kids at Central the very best as well. I always enjoy our work with their team. Fine young men. Compete hard and do it the right way. If you want to force your WR's to run great routes and make your QBs have elite ball placement, do 7 on 7 against Marvin Dantzler/Central's man coverage. Excellent. Poor route or poorly placed ball, their DBs just smack the ball down. We are always better after those sessions.

They did a screening of this movie at the Russell Theatre(Maysville), the Monday after Chris O'Hearn & Darius Miller led the Royals to a state basketball title in 2008. I remember well because it was also the Monday of our first spring football practice. And, like all first days of spring football, came home and told Stephanie, "We won't win a game this year." That turned out to be the first team to win in Flatwoods on a Friday night. Back in the day, it was TOUGH to win in Flatwoods. Wearing my maroon & gold tie today in honor of my good friend and elite football coach, Ivan McGlone. Most of the time, the Red Devils broke my heart, but we got a few wins. Always a big challenge and great football game. I loved Ivan and I sure do miss him. He & Coach Morris drove down to my Dad's visitation, fall of 2015. Great men and coaches. Wonderful young man and football IQ through the roof. Every Friday night, he would do 2 or 3 things to help us win that I never told him to do. And, once a mistake was corrected, he never did it again. October of 2011, Georgetown OC, Craig Mullins, called me walking off the field one Saturday after a win to say, "Thank you for Neal Pawsat!" I told him, "Life gets TOUGH when Neal Pawsat walks out the door!" ?

Admittedly, I screwed up scheduling the Birds. I WANTED to play that game. In 2010 & 2009, I thought we were the best team in 3A until we lost our QB, Neal Pawsat, both seasons at the end. The roughest streak we had at Mason was after Josh Harris got hurt in 2011 until we got to district play in 2012. During that time we had a seven game losing streak...I really did not know that until Chris Ullery pointed that out to me in the coaches office after loss # 7. Thanks Coach. ? The one time we played Highlands before 2011 was 2003 and they got us 21-14 in the snow. I've know Bob Sphire for 30 plus years. Bradley Boone was my last QB at Mason. Both programs are in very good hands.
