Friday, 11/14 will be the 4th consecutive season Scott County will play Cooper in November.

Year one was a running clock game in favor of the Cards, but it’s been all jags since.

Scott County is coming off a 48-7 Wallop of Conner. They didn’t have to do much to win that one, and their starters were out of the game to start the second half.

Cooper also played Conner in distress play. They won that game 49-14, so overall they preformed about the same.

On the other side, Cooper took down South Oldham in rather unimpressive fashion. The final score was 28-14. The key to Cooper’s win was the field position battle. Cooper was able to pin South Oldham deep and in turn get great starting field position a couple times.

in Scott County’s game vs South Oldham it was similar in the first half. South Oldham hung around and only held an 8 point deficit at half. Then, Scott County exploded in the 3rd quarter and put the game out of reach.

Scott County has no issues moving the ball on Cooper even in their losses, and Cooper has no issues moving the ball on Scott County. This will be a barn burner.

Does a healthy Cards team go to Union and even up the rivalry? Or does Cooper hold them off and advance to round 3?

I think this is the best game of the week in the entire state, and I don't mean to slight some of the other big time games that we have this week. This is two of the best teams in 5A meeting in the second round. 

Very intrigued by the defenses of both teams and how they plan to slow down the opposing offenses. As weird as it sounds when you have a D1 QB, I think Scott County has to eliminate the Cooper run game if they want to have a chance. Cooper has to find a way to force a turnover or two for them to get the win. 

I don't know who will win, but the one thing I am fairly certain is that this game will come down to field position, turnovers, and probably whoever has the ball last.

Cooper is going to have to have a heavy dose of the run game to win this one. They need to control the clock to a certain degree. They won't beat Scott Co going one dimensional. Cooper is at their best when their pounding the rock. That puts O'Hara at his best with the way they are built.

The more disciplined team with the best QB in the state will win.  I would guess it's a high-scoring affair with the final margin at a TD or less.

I believe Cooper will prevail at home in a close one.

Maybe the best game in the state for a 2nd round game. Going to say Cooper wins a real close game.

I was going to say the same thing Sparty!  I think this is the best game of the 2nd Round!

TP94 Rating says this should be a close game. If give Cooper a couple points for being at home then Cooper a slight favorite.

You bring up an interesting point. As talented and successful as O'Hara has been in his career, this year feels like underperformance. He is only completing 57.5% of his passes. He threw for twice as many yards last year, and also the year before. Stat wise, his numbers look like his freshman year stats. If you look at his stats against the four top tier opponents Cooper played this year, they are shockingly bad. He did throw for 269 yards against Manual but he was 10/25 passing. What is the story behind the numbers decline this year?

Isn’t his receiving core down this year compared to previous years?

Maybe? Half his passing yards have been to Ryker Campbell who may have hit 1,000 yards receiving last night.

He no longer has two D1 WR to throw the ball out there to and another D2 WR behind both of them. Plus, the offense this year is not a spread, air attack as much as it was in the last two years due to personnel. He is under center a lot more and in pro formations. Personally, I don't think that is the best scheme for Cam but kudos to Coach Borchers and staff for seeing that it was the best scheme for the team. Also, kudos to Cam for being willing to take a step back and put a bigger emphasis on the run game this season.

Beechwood made a similar change in offensive focus last year. Despite having their passing records holder Clay Hayden at QB for his senior year, the Tigers felt they needed to build the running game to win another state title. Hayden was on board with the plan and Beechwood got that state title. I am rooting for the same success for Cooper and O'Hara.

He lost some really good receivers from last year and I think the design of the offense changed to a more balanced attack. Freihofer made a fantastic grab last night and Campbell keeps getting better. Guys like Johnson, Alexander, et al don't come around very often. Just my take. O'Hara may be down a bit numbers wise, but he is quite talented. He had a really nice scramble for a TD last night.

Whoever wins will make it to semis at the least in my opinion. Both could very well win it all.

SC will have to be efficient in the pass game and stop the run to win. I think McKee gets over the hump and operation Christmas tree is a go!!
