Tigerpride94 Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Sprint based football is spreading across the nation. Could be good topic. Could reach out to Brad Dixon who posted this on X and see if he will talk about sprint based football on your podcast. 2
Hearsay Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Lexington Catholic v. Bardstown here is a couple weeks. New LexCath head coach David Clark visits his old team, a place he worked and coached since 1997, and it will likely be for the 3A District 4 title and the chance to avoid CAL in Round 2. Topic: Bylaw 6 - Dead or Alive? Question: What are the Best Kept-Secret Fishing Holes of Larry French in Kentucky? 2
ChiefSmoke Posted October 8 Author Posted October 8 We have used quite a bit of BGPreps content lately for our tough topics. If you have additional ideas, please share those & thank you!
Watusi Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I really enjoy this show thank you guys for doing it. I find myself always playing catch up and listening to the podcasts 2 or 3 in a row after the fact. That’s a perk of modern technology that I’m grateful to have. 1
Watusi Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Here’s a coaching question I find interesting now that we are in the meat of district play. We see it every week, a lot of these district games are lopsided. Kids know it, and it affects them mentally, like it or not. How tough is it to get your team prepared during the week for one of those games? Both as a heavy favorite and also as a heavy underdog. Does your approach change vs a week where the opponent is more on an even level with your team? 2
ATLCat Posted October 8 Posted October 8 You guys do a great job with this. A few topics I would love to hear your perspective on: 1. Should Kentucky have Neutral Site playoff games in the Semi-Finals (or even Round 3) if they plan to stick with the RPI based system? 2. Unlocking Video Streaming of Games. Would love to hear one of you defend why streaming is necessary for programs trying to keep up with the times and would also love to hear one of you take the side of why streaming is harming programs. In terms of something personal to me that I would be very interested in hearing on the show and I am sure others out there may also wonder: How can I best be involved in helping my program change for the positive if my kid is just starting to play football? My personal scenario around this: My son will be eligible to start playing football in 3rd Grade next Fall. The school he attends is a 1A sized school and not a football powerhouse and it never has been. With that said, the school has used it's academics and expansion of a new K-3 program to become an appealing option in the community and as a result they are getting more and more students. They have began offering flag and tackle football prior to Middle School for the first time and it has been off to a very successful start. As we transition to Football next year what advice would you give for parents of first time players who want to become invested in the growth of a program? Obviously volunteering to Coach is a given, but what are options in addition to volunteer coaching that promotes a successful culture or chemistry among classmates? Does this advice change for a parent who never played football or sports but still wants to invest? You both built programs from the Feeder System up from a low point to a very successful level, what would you consider the key moment you achieved that allowed your program to change that culture from losing to winning? 1 1
DanGiga Posted October 9 Posted October 9 A question for a future episode. What’s late season look like in a couple different scenarios? Winning season possible deep playoff run. .500 season possibility of getting a good/bad draw into the play offs. And a losing season no hopes of a play off berth. Just to add to the question and make it more complex. What changes at different roster numbers? 22-35, 40-60, 60+, 80+. I know the kids you have currently would be really telling. You guys do a great job! Love listening! 1
ChiefSmoke Posted October 9 Author Posted October 9 I sure do appreciate the feedback and questions. Thank you so much and keep them coming!
BEChargers Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Would you rather have 65 players grades 9-12? Or 105 players grade 9-12? 1
bruin66 Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Here is a question for you guys: For teams that have players that play both ways (which is most teams), how do you split up your practice week? Do you have offensive days/defensive days, or do you have designated practice periods for both sides of the ball in each practice session. Do you do certain special teams on a particular day? Basically, just take us through your typical practice week assuming a Friday night game. You guys do a great job. I enjoy listening. 1
Oldercoach Posted October 10 Posted October 10 Just saw in a BGP post that Indiana uses a “Post season success” factor to require historically successful teams to play up the next season (s) until lack of success allows them to play again in their class. 1 1
