CovCath, as has happened in past, WINS more events including (2) 4-man relays over St.X, yet the Tigers depth prevails. Oh well.

Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear my Pius boys couldn't pull it out. Pretty safe to say they are two of the best (if not the best) 8th grade teams in Cincy metro area this year. Also looking forward to these guys mixing it up together next year in Park Hills. Congrats BSac.

I think they can make some noise in the 11th next year. Still need a true point guard with some quickness. Would like to see the two Sophomores (Hall, Hendrickson) hit the speed training / gym hard in the offseason. They have very good potential with some speed/agility improvement.

Based on accomplishment - my first selection is that kid who is the star player and/or team leader holding up a big team trophy about 4:00pm on a certain Sunday in Rupp Arena.

I'd say 6'2+. Big strong body, but with skills to play the #3

Congrats to Pius and Camp Ernst for an enjoyable 8th grade championship game. Both good (well coached) teams. Pius kids (namely Sommerkamp) stepped up big when both team's leading scorer's (Mayer / Centers) had to sit due to foul trouble. Good job by the referees. Although the same ref seemed to make most of the foul calls, they appeared legit.

Totally agree. Unless there is some kind of policy change next year at CCH, highly unlikely Mayer ever plays Frosh. IMO, would have been top or 2nd leading scorer on this years freshman team & I guarantee he would have been leading rebounder. At this stage (8th grade), as an overall player, he is ahead of the two previous Pius bigs (brother AJ and Thelen). Doesn't necessarily mean that translates to HS ball, but I'm betting it does. I look forward to him playing next to his brother . . . good luck anyone else getting a rebound.

No, but they have a nice team led by a really good player (per this thread, I assume him to be Kaiser?) St.Agnes & BSac are strong at this level too, from what I've heard.

Congrats to St.Pius. 3 years played. . . 3 years in Regional Finals. Mayer is a special player, however it takes a team to have that much success Kudos to Sommerkamp, Lyons, Powers, Zimmerman, Stava for 3 solid years. Good luck Fellas!

My favorite "great" player is the one who racks up the assists. Nothing like a good pass & the more creative the better (for entertainment purposes). One caveat though, must go along with a low turnover total.

OO - I can't say that I agree with you. First off, the 1-year rule has totally changed the culture of NCAA basketball. People like to blame Cal. He was just ahead of the curve. Now Coach K does it & the overall conception is not as "evil". 2nd - I believe these 1 & doners are giving back / spending more time around UK just as much, if not more, than generations past. Finally, they are not all 1 & done. While some have left before they were ready (Dakari, Orton, Teague, Lamb, etc), there are examples of multi-year players too (Harrisons, Poy, Willis, Hawkins,). That being said, I am old school enough, to have a little extra passion for the KY guys & hope there are 1 or 2 on the team at all times.

Crossing my fingers he will become an integral part of an NKU shot at Horizon League title in next couple years. NKU games are a hidden treat . . get the team built up & the arena amped up and it will be a whole lot of fun. It's coming, get on board!!!

The pressure Lenihan and Nowak put on opposing guards is insane (I mean in a good way). CCH defense next year may be incredible with all that ball pressure & near 7 footer on back line.

As a big HS basketball fan, I agree, it's not broke. However, my preference would be more progressive along the lines of college & the NBA.

No one ever said change was easy, but through trial & error, evolution can occur.

Just a thought . . . What if a 35 or 40 second shot clock were implemented in the regional & state tourneys (larger facilities). Then, during the regular season the home team could opt to have it. (as long as they were consistent all year)
