No disrespect meant towards Boone, but I have a tough time seeing them beat SK, Dixie, or Ryle. I don't know much about Campbell. Like Guru said, baby steps. Boone needs any win they can take this year. I think they will be improved and win some games this year though.

Scott County is experiencing a lot of growth and they probably do not anticipate it to slow down with in the next few years and enrollment within Scott County High school was going to increase every year which explains the split. The exact same thing goes for the Boone County Schools. Robertson and Washington County have experience almost no growth over the past 30 years so splitting high schools would make zero sense. Harlan County has been experiencing population loss and McCracken County's population remains fairly stagnant. Scott County probably figured splitting schools sooner rather than later is best. When a county is growing a lot, a school district can either keep adding onto the existing school or add an additional school. Adding an additional school seems to be the right call in this particular situation.

Lets look at the positives. A lot more kids will now be playing sports which helps keep kids out of trouble (there will be a lot more kids playing sports between the two schools than if it were just one big school), big possibility of a new rivalry being born, and with the smaller class sizes kids might get to know their fellow students a little bit better. I do not live in Scott County so I do not know, but it sounds like there are a decent amount of people calling for a new high school. So a good move by the school district to do what they think is best for everyone. If athletic power is the only draw back to a new school, then building a new school is probably the right move.

Probably not. Scott County currently has about 1200 boys. Around 700 boys (usually a little less) will land you in 6A. The school is not set to open for 3 years and the county's population will grow each year meaning higher school enrollments. The article said when the new school opens it will only house 700 students but will eventually hold 1500, but that is probably a few years down the road from after the school opens. So, it is not out of the question that even after the new school opens, Scott County High School might still have 800 to 1000 boys.

You're right the kid shouldn't be made to play if he truly does not want to. It is a shame. Rarely do you here guys down the road say they wish they would have quit or wouldn't have played. But you hear people say all the time how they wish they would have played. Just hope the kid does not regret it later.

How many starters does Belfry return? Heard they were pretty young last year.

Good Point. I'll agree with you but football and basketball are very different sports and can be a little hard to compare. But I have always thought not enough attention was given to the All "A" classic. Winning it is a big deal and something to be really proud of.

It really shouldn't be a surprise that Scott County has nice facilities. I would be more surprised if they didn't. Scott County is the largest public school in the state (or one of them) and also the only school in the district and county. I don't believe Scott County is exactly a poverty stricken county and has almost 50,000 people living in the county. So it shouldn't be to big of a surprise when they build nice facilities.

I do not know if having play one way only in middle school is the best idea. I think you want kids playing as many positions as possible and seeing what they are best at during that age. A lot of kids get moved around over the years position wise. But also a big factor is Boyle County's middle school team for the whole middle school? Or do they have a team for each grade? It be hard to not have kids go both ways if you only have 25-30 kids on the team.

You make a good point and I see where you are coming from. I just believe high schools are treated like little kids to often and then months later and asked to pick what they want to do for the rest of their lives. I know that is not the scenario here and is not what you said but just something that annoys me.

A lot of really good points made. But I have always been a big fan of 7 on 7. It gives the coaches and players something to look forward to. Instead of doing the same drills at practice you get to go out and compete against somebody else.

I do not like that statement. These kids are nine or ten months away from being let loose into the world. They deserve a say on their team. Making bad decisions is sometimes a part of life. That being said, I want to the kid to play. If you are the coach, you tell the seniors the good he can bring to the team and that you think he is sorry. I personally think the kids would say let him play. I really do. Is starting one kid worth upsetting 25? I truly do not know, I am not close enough to the situation. But I think he does start many games for Boone this season.

If I am the coach, I ask the seniors what do they think. If they say let him play, we want him back, then you absolutely welcome him back.

I believe it is CCH's second game of the year but it is Boone's first. I hope the kid gets to play his senior year even if it means going back to Boone. The kid getting to play is what is important here. I think sometimes everyone (including myself) get caught up in everything and don't stop and realize we are talking and worrying about teenage kids. I wish Aaron Floyd the best and hope he has a great year where ever it may be.

Not sure how back you want to go, but 1984 champions New Cath. Won the schools first football championship and had eventual Mr. Football Frank Jacobs. He later went on to play at Notre Dame. I believe he also played baseball there too.

I have no clue how Brossart views CCH now or what he says to his players about his experiences there. I know he had a couple CCH guys on his staff the past couple years. But I am going to say that it does add a little fuel to the fire but not to much. This has always been a big game for the Red Colonels. Dixie is 7-33 against CCH lifetime with there last win coming in 2007 (they later were defeated by CCH in the playoffs that year). In past years Dixie has had pep rallies before they have played CCH and are always hungry for the win. This senior class probably very much wants to finally beat CCH, especially after they were absolutely manhandled by them in 2012. I expect a tough game see Dixie pulling out a W. But Dixie always has been known to shoot themselves in the foot when playing the Blue Colonels.

Sorry for getting to far off topic. But I would love/hate to know how many regional championships CCH has lost and how many of those were to Holmes. But lets all agree that the 35th is one tough district to win :thumb: . Walter, do you think Holmes under Listerman can win a regional championship this upcoming year? I think they have a great shot.

I'm a Cov. Cath. guy, but over the past 10 years they have been the best in NKY in my opinion. You're right though, there is a definite argument to be made for or against that though. I do not think that they will diminish with Coach L.

This is just me speculating, but you have a good point. Holmes has the best basketball program in NKY. They churn out great players every year. They would probably get a ton of applicants from all around. They could be giving Listerman a year and if it is not as successful are the hope then they might go out and look. But who knows, they could plan on L being their for the long haul.

Exactly. I think most will agree that without the coach's son, CCH does not win state and probably does not win region. Their PG was a awesome and unselfish player who made everyone else better. It is hard to argue against CCH because of the fact that they won a state title just three years later. But no, Coach L is not on the same list as Brossart. Not even close. Coach L was at the school much much longer and a much bigger fixture. Coach L did great things at CCH and even came close to his own championship ten years earlier. He is a great guy who deserves another head coaching job and I am very glad he is getting another chance, just wish it wasn't at district rival Holmes. I was just using Brossart as an example to the fact that you can be forced out somewhere else or leave on bad terms and still be successful somewhere else. People usually learn more about themselves through defeat than through winning. You could argue if Listerman got a raw deal or not. In a lot of ways he did. In his last few years, talent simply got a little dry outside of a few players. One year he had his first and second string point guards get sick and miss most of the season. This made him go way down the bench. But watching the last few years of his tenure were a little rough. His subbing seemed to have no rhythm and it seemed players stopped responding to him. A lot of that could have been the lack of talent (as compared to previous years) and players not being used to losing. Many agreed it was time for a change. Not to often do you see a coaching change were both parties are happy. Someone usually gets burned. It was unfortunate it had to be Listerman.

From what I have hear, yes they will have a team again. Last year that had about 20 kids on the team which did not include a single senior (according to the school website). They had 1 player, Joe Marino I believe, qualify for the state tournament. I would be surprised if more than a couple of kids on the team have ever wrestled before in their lives. As far as I know, none of the feeder schools of CCH have or offer wrestling. I do not know if their are club teams or anything like that to join either. They did lose big most of the time but have to give credit to the boys that showed up every day to start a program from scratch. I heard a few months ago that CCH was in the talks about building an auxiliary gym. But for all I know that could be all talk and not true at all. If that is true and it does happen. Wrestling would greatly benefit from that.

Rowe was the principal when Listerman resigned but I wouldn't say it was Rowe who ran him off and still is the principal today. It was a general consensus that it would be best for Coach L to step down. Mike Listerman is a great person who really cares about his players and tried to teach real life lessons in and outside the class room along the actual class curriculum. That being said, it was best for both parties for Listerman to leave. If Coach L was still the coach, CCH is probably not your 2014 state champs. Although, I do think Listerman has the ability to lead a team to a state title. Look at Dave Brossart at Dixie. He simply was not the right fit for CCH in football. It was obvious from the beginning. I think "resigning" was the best thing for him. He probably learned a lot, became and better coach because of it, and is now doing a fine job at Dixie. Could be a similar scenario for Coach L.

I agree. Forcing teams to start on the 20 after a kickoff is a huge advantage. Forces longer drives and eliminates the chance for a TD return. Having a kicker who can do that in high school is an extremely underrated value. I am sure we have all seen many of games go different ways because of special teams debacles.
