7 on 7 Should Be Outlawed

Featured Replies

It's not fair for passing teams to get extra practice against other teams while run oriented teams don't get that opportunity.

And the rules say so, they say you can't practice until July 22nd and they have to have three days in helmet, so that means players can't have 7 on 7 until July 25th. Honestly, it says so. Read the very limited passage that I quote below, and what ever you do, don't read anything else that the KHSAA publishes, because I'm saying this is the only part that matters. Seriously, read nothing else, just this passage.

First three days on or after July 22 (minimum), helmet only.

Great point. It most certainly gives pass heavy teams more time to perfect routes, timing, reads etc. Run heavy teams could use that time to perfect O line footwork on all blocks, QB's and RB's footwork, timing, fakes etc. That's just a few of the things but you get my point.

7 on 7 is to an Offenses advanage; however, Pass Defenses are getting Quality work in as well.....Inside work agianst other Teams in July would be very beneficial to any Offensive Run Game.....I'm not a particular Fan of 7on7 tournaments, but I do LOVE the competition that they breed.....

I'm 99.9% sure Ram was being facetious with this post.

I'm tempted to argue that run oriented teams benefit the most from passing league. Forces them to work on their pass game. Everyone benefits defensively.

A lot of really good points made. But I have always been a big fan of 7 on 7. It gives the coaches and players something to look forward to. Instead of doing the same drills at practice you get to go out and compete against somebody else.

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood and Ram never jokes.

But, Ram does slice. He is slicing big on this issue.

The you can't stop at this portion of the rules. You clearly have to read the rules in it's full context which goes on to say from 7/10 to 7/21 you CAN have simulated activities such as 7 on 7's.

Teams could take their OL players and coach with them. Work on footwork and pass protection drills behind the endzone while the 7 on 7 games are going on.

Nothing wrong with a "run only" type offense such as Johnson Central to learn how to pitch and catch especially when teams will load the box on them and "just dare" them to throw it.

Had JC been a tad bit better at passing it they may have owned that 20n10 trophy as the last play of the game was a duck with one wing...Just sayin

Point is...take advantage of the 7on7 and don't cry fowl but practice a part of your game because you never know when you might just have to throw one 15 yd ball to win a State Championship.

Dont blame the rules, blame the coach that isn't preparing his team when the run game gets shut down...:thumb:

Besides, just because it is called 7on7 doesn't mean its a passing competition. Like someone else said earlier, call the opposing coach ahead of time and tell him to be prepared to stack the box against you when you are on offense so your OL can work on technique and timing.

And when the opposing team is on O work on your pass D against heavy pass oriented teams...

So there should be rules against the type of offense you practice? Dumb. Teams choose to do 7 on 7. If you dont want to participate, you dont have to.

Thenamerobdigity returns - and there was much celebrating in BGP land

I'm a huge fan of 7v7. Years ago I wasn't, but I have since changed. I love it solely because I think that much can be gained from the defensive side of things more than anything....IF people play the coverages that they would vs. those same sets in season. However, more times than not...people go out and play Man Under-2 Deep or some time of Man Free & IMO, that doesn't help.

Do what you do.

Offensively, there are benefits, but as we all know...it's so far from reality that it's not even funny

Defense. Kids getting a chance to compete vs. other schools, and recognizing those who have play making ability are the pros of it no doubt.

That's why you cheat and go to team camps and scrimmage other teams when your not allowed. That's how you work on the run game.
