I know Ncc has a baseball history that is as strong as any team in the 9th. They have proven quality coaches and some players who have won on every level they played. What is the reason for not being competitive this year? Why can't Ncc score?

Did they miss out on a big time candidate they could've hired?

I believe the Ncc coach does a nice job.

Would the game be in Ft. Thomas or at Pulaski? Could someone from Pulaski let us know how the last trip for their football team to Highlands turned out?

I think Highlands does return a lot. They don't have a Hoge, but they'll start a good QB. When haven't they? I have respect for Bowling Green. They could win it. I saw Pulaski last year and wasn't impressed. Highlands would've hung 60 on them. They had no speed. They just never ran into a good team that had speed. I hope Highlands gets far enough to play Pulaski. Covcath may one day be a factor too.(nah, they never are). I loved Owensboro's offense. I don't know what they return or the new coaches plan. I'm ready for football though.

I've seen a lot of 9th region games. The order for all-time success in the 9th region is as follows: 1) Holmes 2) Highlands( not a factor the last 4-5 years) 3) Covcath You can make a strong case for Covcath at #2 because of last years title. Before the last 10 years Highlands had an argument for first. Then a big drop off to 4)Newport 5)Newport Catholic(usually competitive but chokes in the regionals) 6) Simon Kenton (not many trips, but they have a title) 7) Holy Cross (sporadic titles mixed in) After this, no team even comes to mind historically.

There is nothing that needs to be changed with the Sweet 16. No matter the subject, you always get a group of "know it alls" sitting around wanting to change things to make it better for what most already like. More often than not, they ruin a good thing. One perfect example is the 6 class football system. Another is how Indiana ruined their state basketball tourney. Sometimes change is good. Sometimes its a nightmare. Changing the Sweet 16 is moronic. I'd say its about equivalent to the idea what new coke was years ago. If you don't like it how it is, don't go. Leave it to the other 20,000 in attendance.

Covcath wins big. They had their scare with Newport.

NCC has lost in the first round the last 3 years. In other words they haven't won a regional game since 2012. I could be wrong on the round? . I know aspirations were higher. The senior players most likely never experienced playing and winning a regional game. That still doesn't mean it wasn't successful. I still believe only NCC can decide whether their season was successful or not. The coaches and players are the only ones who's opinion matters. However, for the tradition rich teams, anything less than a regional title is usually not considered adequate. Right now I doubt any of the coaches or players care what anyone outside their locker room thinks. And quite frankly they shouldn't care.

It sounds like it was an exciting night with 2 entertaining games. I only wish I could've been there. Ncc had an excellent team and I expected them to last longer then one game. I'm sure the seniors are disappointed with having a great career and never winning a title and advancing to the big stage. But that doesn't make them less of a player. The few times I saw them, I really enjoyed their play. I agree with those that say its hard to win the region. It really makes you appreciate how easy Ken Shields and John Messmer made it look.

I still harp on the fact of Highlands big man fleeing to Ncc set the program back 5 years. If you put him on Highlands, he eats up the opposing big men, and everyone else on Highlands looks that much better. Highlands has hard working kids, but it's imperative to have basketball only guys as your core.

You're making excuses for a 62 point loss? Most years the margins could be in the 70's. That's not even an exaggeration. I still maintain the gate is the only benefit. Once the novelty wore off, it would be no different in attendance than say the Holmes or Harrison games. As evidenced by Ncc-Holmes last year, that's a comparable team.

Its actually 8 of 9 years. No reason to throw on the 10th year. 8 of 9 is stronger than 8 of 10.

I won the Monday night over 50 softball championship at Expressway Park.

My prediction is the gym gets hot and somebody props open a door or window thinking they're doing everyone a favor. Within a few minutes you'll have condensation on the floor and the game will be cancelled because the floor gets too slippery. It happens too often in the old gyms like this one. But there's always someone that thinks letting cool air in the hot gym is a good idea.

I'd prefer to see the NCC write ups limited to the Newport publications myself. But, the writer does a nice job and must feel there's enough interest to warrant their stories. Now if he's skipping Highlands games to cover NCC, then I could understand someone having an issue. But I don't think that's the case. Any and all positive coverage such as these articles is good for high schools. I enjoy his thorough coverage.

I commend NCC for scheduling Belfry. Since the Eviston era started the schedule has gotten better and so has NCC football. Wagner has continued strong scheduling. I don't want that to sound like a negative to the legend, but I believe the scheduling philosophy Ncc has now is making them better than say a decade ago.

I honestly think the only benefit to either team would be the gate. The last time they played Highlands won literally about 69-0. It sent Ncc spiraling. Being that there are many friends and family competing against each other, and it would be very one-sided, the game is not good for relations. I like to give my many NCC friends and family a hard time, but I really didn't enjoy the last meeting. They are some years NCC could stay within 4-5 TD's but those years are rare.

Someone thought NCC plays anyone anytime. In my opinion this is a false statement and I disagreed. Isn't debate and opinions a reason for this discussion board? I was offering what I feel is a fact to back up my opinion.
