I can't say enough good things about NCC's football program. I always enjoy watching them play and I know I will get 100% effort from them every time out. However, after seeing both NCC and Belfry play in the finals last year I am not sure NCC wants any. Belfry is Manstown and they return the majority of their team from 2014.

It really depends on how much NewCath's OLine has matured over the past year. I don't know about numbers on the roster in terms of # of players or size of players, so I can't say what kind of depth they will have. Skill wise they could create problems for Belfry b/c of their ability to throw the ball. If this was the first game of the year, I would be extremely concerned. However, being where it is, we will know more about the Breds OLine and getter a better feel for their chances. We know what Belfry will have, and it is very, very good.

Why is it not a good game for NCC? If they had an open date in their schedule, it is certainly worth their while IMO. They would certainly be better off playing Belfry than the 5A-6A teams in NKY. Good measuring stick that will help them see where they need to improve and get ready for a playoff run.

Solid 4 hour bus ride for them when they go down to Belfry. My feeling is good coaches want to play challenging teams to set them up to be competitive in the long haul. I think Lou. Central (for example) does a great job at this concept.

Why is everyone concerned about whether this is a good scheduling move for NewCath? As long as I can remember, NewCath has scheduled with the same championship mindset as Belfry: "Anyone. Any time. Any place." "Respect all. Fear none." You have to admire that, plus a travel game or two gives your players a taste of what playoff football feels like. It just so happens there are so many quality teams in NKY (including bigger teams willing to play down), NCC doesn't have to take a true road trip unless they choose to.

NO.

It's a very long trip for the team and the followers for a regular season game.

It is a long trip, but there are going to be a lot of benefits for both teams. I think it is a good game and obviously both coaching staffs do too.

NewCath's goal is to win a 2A State Title.

 

Most likely to win that State Title they will have to defeat the East Representative and then either DeSales or Mayfield.

 

Belfry is stronger than any team they will see out of the East n the Semi's in every aspect. They have a bigger Oline than any other team in 2A and they have arguably the best DLine in the State of Kentucky regardless of class. Considering DeSales physicality, size, and DLine play was the biggest difference in last year's Finals one would think this would be an excellent measuring stick for the Breds.

 

The other side of the coin is you don't lose anything by playing this game. Great competition and a classy program. It will certainly cost more when they go on the road... but you also will get a really nice gate when Belfry comes to your place to help off set it (Plus an increased walk-up crowd).

 

As a Belfry guy I am excited the Pirates get to see a team that is as well coached as NewCath with an offense like they have.

Because Belfry is a 3A school correct? More than likely have a roster size comparable to that of NCC.

IMO game is a better fit for Belfry than NCC...not counting travel.

 

NCC runs an offense, which will give Belfry a great opportunity to prepare for and play against as they will see other similar offenses throughout the season.

 

Belfry runs an offense that NCC may not see the rest of the year, so at least on that side of the ball no big benefit for NCC.

 

NCC will benefit from playing against the Belfry D which year in and year out is as sound fundamentally as any in the state.

 

I have nothing but respect for these two great programs and I love to see teams of this stature play during the season.
