NCC playing Belfry would be like SK playing Trinity. It will not be pretty.

 

NCC always plays a great schedule, but especially after last year where they didn't get their first win until district play started showed they just weren't ready for teams outside their district in any class.

 

Unless people are of the belief a beat down is good for a team, this game really isn't going to benefit NCC at all.

 

Last year can't compare to this year's team. They actually will start this season w/ a starting QB, an All State caliber running back and receivers are bound to pop up. The question is whether the OLine has improved enough over the offseason. The DLine will be solid b/c Lawrence is a beast. They return Tallon at LBer, so the defensive spine is solid.

 

Additionally, Belfry does not throw the ball all that well, unless the new QB is given more freedom than in the past. While that doesn't guarantee that NewCath will hang w/ Belfry, it plays to their defensive strength under Wagner. We will see what happens, but one thing is for sure, NewCath will be much better in September 2015 than they were in September 2014.

I guess there is Bosshog History and then there is accurate History. Last time NCC met Highlands was in 1998 when NCC was in a period of having 3 of their worst years since the early 60s. Highlands did win easily 62-0 but Highlands also won easily over just about everyone including a 56-7 win in the State Championship. Highlands actually beat Holmes, Campbell County, and Scott worse than they beat NCC that year. Highlands also scored 70 on CovCath.

 

The next year Highlands replaced NCC with a series against Elder which eventually led to playing Elder in the new Paul Brown Stadium so it was a great decision by Highlands and Elder. As for NCC I guess 1998 did not send them spiraling. Well actually an upward spiral maybe. In 2000 and 2001 they reached their first State Championship games since the mid-80s and the 2000-2014 period is by far the most successful in their history. Likewise, Highlands has continued to enjoy much success.

 

You're making excuses for a 62 point loss? Most years the margins could be in the 70's. That's not even an exaggeration. I still maintain the gate is the only benefit. Once the novelty wore off, it would be no different in attendance than say the Holmes or Harrison games. As evidenced by Ncc-Holmes last year, that's a comparable team.

Just a funny aside as it pertains to this game.

 

My father told me that he stayed at the same hotel in Bowling Green as several NewCath fans during the State Finals. Said they were a great bunch and during the continental breakfast struck up a conversation that Saturday morning before heading home.

 

The NewCath fans were raving about how impressed they were with Belfry's defense that they had watched that day. They were talking about how good Belfry's DT's were ... especially #23 (Horton) and #44 Bentley. They asked if and where Horton and Bentley would be playing college ball the next year. They were surprised when he said "No where"... then he told them they wouldn't play college ball until 2017 because they were only Sophomores.

 

He said they were in shock that those kids were so big and talented for being so young.

 

Now I guess they will get to see them up close the next two years.

Just pointing out that your version of history is always inaccurate and of course you once again skip over the part where you claim that a loss to Highlands sent NCC into a spiral...... when actually the following 15 years were the most productive period in the school's history. But keep trying. Someday you may get over that Horse envy.

Who cares? This game, like the first 5 for the past couple of seasons will not define anything NCC or what Belfry does in the quest for a state championship. It might as well have been scheduled as a scrimmage because where is the rivalry? All its going to do is give a scouting report to anyone of similar size and strength.

So why play games at all? Should we just play the district games and go straight into the playoffs?

And miss out on all the whining about strength of schedule? Miss out on all the whining about injury to bigger teams? Might not be a bad idea, but that's to be determined by someone of higher authority.
