lawildcat Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Welcome back to the Hill, ladies! (Taken from NCC's website) NCC is proud to announce our new volleyball coaching staff, effective for the upcoming fall 2015 season. Varsity head coach, Angie Boden Reckers, NCC ’93, will be assisted by JV coach Elizabeth Roelker, NCC ’06; the freshman team will be coached by Angela Kohrs, NCC ’97. We are glad to share a short profile on each of these new coaches. Welcome back to the hill, Angie, Lizzie, and Angela! Angie Boden Reckers, Head Coach Angie Boden Reckers, a 1993 alumna of Newport Central Catholic, was a standout athlete who played varsity softball, basketball, and volleyball. She helped lead her volleyball team to regional championships in 1990 and 1991, as well as the state quarterfinals in 1991 and 1992. During her three years as the starting varsity setter, Angie was named to the All-Region Team, KHSOCA Second Team, Parochial Schools All-Tournament Team, GCHSA All-Star Team (First Team), and the 1993 Kentucky State All-Stars Mizuno Blue Team. She was also the first recipient of the Randal Neises Scholarship in 1993, which was established by the Northern Kentucky Volleyball Club, where she played on the club team during high school. She accepted an athletic/academic scholarship to attend Midway College, where she competed for four years in the NAIA and the NSCAA. In college, Angie was named to the KIAC All-Tournament and All-Conference Team in 1994, 1995, and 1996. She was also named to the NAIA All-Conference Team in 1994 and 1996. Angie’s coaching career has been another area of the sport for which she has a real passion. She coached her first team at St. Joseph in Cold Spring before graduating high school in 1993. Her 22 years of coaching experience includes coaching for Tri-County Merchants (1994), NKJV (1995-1999), St. Paul Elementary (2001 and 2006), and even the men’s volleyball team at Newport Central Catholic in 2007. She has coached for the Northern Kentucky Volleyball Club (NKYVC), which is based at Town & Country Sports Complex, since the club originated in 1999. Angie is also an experienced high school volleyball official, chosen as the KHSAA Official of the Year for 2011-2012. On accepting the head coaching assignment for NCC, she said, “I have a true passion for sports and a special love for volleyball. I want to teach others all aspects of the game and how to achieve more through hard work, dedication, perseverance, heart, and team work. These are tools that every player can apply to all aspects of life, as well as to the game. Seeing that pay off is my biggest reward as a coach.” Angie has been a paralegal at American Modern Insurance Group, Inc., since 2005. She and her husband, Eric, NCC ’91, have a son, Brady, and three daughters, Kori, Paytin, and Jordyn. Elizabeth Roelker, Varsity Assistant/JV Head Coach Lizzie Roelker, who grew up in Fort Thomas and attended St. Thomas, graduated from Newport Central Catholic in 2006. She is an alumna of the University of Kentucky, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in middle school education in 2010. She is currently the junior high math teacher at St. Joseph in Cold Spring. Her love of volleyball began at St. Thomas when she started playing in the 3rd grade. She played for the Northern Kentucky Junior Volleyball Club and on very successful teams at Newport Central Catholic High School. Bringing many years of passion for volleyball, she has been head coach of the eighth grade team at St. Agnes and, for the last two years, St. Joseph’s seventh and eighth grade teams. While Lizzie still plays recreational volleyball, she says her greatest joy comes from sharing her passion and love of the sport with her players and seeing them succeed. Angela Kohrs, Freshman Head Coach Angela Kohrs, a 1997 alumna of NCC, grew up in Ft. Thomas and attended St. Catherine. She started playing volleyball in second grade at the Bellevue Vets and later played at St. Catherine. Then, she continued to play in high school and for the Northern Kentucky Junior Volleyball Club. Her love for volleyball continued at EKU where she played on an intramural team for all four years as she pursued a bachelor’s degree in education. After coming back home, Angela earned her master’s degree at Northern Kentucky University. For the past 13 years, she has been a special education teacher at Dayton High School. Angela has a number years of coaching under her belt already. She has coached for the Northern Kentucky Volleyball Club (NKYVC) for seven years and has coached at various levels at Dayton High School, Villa Madonna Middle School, and Highlands Middle School. While she still plays two nights a week, her real joy is coaching and seeing her players succeed on and off the court. A true Thoroughbred at heart, Angela reports she is very excited to get back to the Hill to wear the blue and gold again. She and her husband, Scott, are raising three daughters, Kylie, Camryn, and Kolbey, at their home in Newport.
vblover Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Good hire by NCC that obviously cares about NCC volleyball and growing the sport of volleyball. Best of luck!

volleymom Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Angie coached my daughter at NKYVC, she is wonderful. She is also a very good VB referee. Agreed. She is an outstanding coach.
FeelingGood Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I wish her the best but sorry for being devils-advocate, time will only tell if NCC was just filling the position or they really wants to transform the program. The talent is there, will we be seeing the making of a new dominate program in the 9th Region? They were definitely in need of a new direction. Best of luck. .

Did they miss out on a big time candidate they could've hired?
FeelingGood Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Did they miss out on a big time candidate they could've hired? Don't think so, just think they have been resting on the same old same old for sp long I hope she comes in and makes big changes.
NKYVB Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Don't think so, just think they have been resting on the same old same old for sp long I hope she comes in and makes big changes. Angie is a much better coach than NCC coaches in years past. The other coaches........ meh.
Lawnboy13 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Only been two other coaches in the schools history, so Jenny Mertle and Vicki Fleissner didn't know the game or how to coach?
NKYVB Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Only been two other coaches in the schools history, so Jenny Mertle and Vicki Fleissner didn't know the game or how to coach? *yawns*
Sandman32 Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Only been two other coaches in the schools history, so Jenny Mertle and Vicki Fleissner didn't know the game or how to coach? My thought exactly... Both those ladies were wonderful coaches while at NCC. Sounds a little like sour grapes to me NKYVB. It always kills me how some people have to run someone else down in an attempt to say something nice about a new hire. Vicki gave NCC 30+ years.... I think that deserves a little more respect then meh... Especially when she stepped down on of her own volition. FYI - When asked about the hire Coach Fleissner said she was ecstatic, and gave Angie a rousing endorsement.

I would just like to see another school in the 9th compete with NDA and their has been very few that have. Best of luck to the new coach, she will have her work cutout to get NCC back to a top team like they were before.

Not really at you Feeling Good even though you were fairly negative about the program, but you do realize that the former coach was one of the two people who made them a top team before don't you? NCC is super fortunate. They have had 3 head coaches in their history and all 3 care immensely for their alma mater. Add to that that all three are outstanding coaches and NCC will have a quality program for years to come. I would not look for anyone to knock NDA off their pedestal this season. They have a great team and Morgan Hentz, who is the best all-around player in NKY. Once she's gone the rest of NKY will have a chance. Just be patient.
