There may be a few more good teams in 6A this year. But it's rare that any of them besides Trinity are better than Highlands or Bowling Green most years. Outside of those 3 and occasionally St X and Male, there's a big drop off. Let's not all of the sudden pretend like 6A is vastly superior football. Theres not much difference between an average 6A and average 4A team. Which again underscores that there's no need for 6 classes in Ky.

There has to be some changes. I'm not sure what though.

I think 4A offered tougher tradition richer teams. Boyle, Lexcath. Ashland was a more formidable early round foe. The 4A west usually offered a tougher final game opponet. 5A brought Bowling Green, Christian Co 2x, and John Hardin. In those 4 games the opponent may have averaged 7 pts. You're right in the fact that Highlands was just a lot better than everyone those years though, so a case can be made for 5A. To be honest, in years when Highlands is really good, theres only 1 other program in this state that can beat them and they don't wear Black and Orange or Maroon and Gold. They wear Green.(and Highlands has beaten them too).

Where you on that team we beat 56-6 in the playoffs? I'm sorry if you got hurt that night. We wuz just playing football and didn't mean anything by it.

It was sarcasm after we were making comments back and forth yesterday where I told her she always roots for whoever is winning. I think and hope she didn't take it too personal since I don't even know her. I doubt she spent too much time boo-hooing about my comments. And you're a good representative of Cooper? Do you think Coach Borchers is reading BGP and saying "great points this week Hellbird"?

Please lose your Highlands gear. I personally don't think you're much of a Highlands fan, but that's just me. I expect you'll move to the side of whoever's winning. I saw Ncc a few times last year and like several of their returning players. I think it will be a close game. If Ncc can get any offense going, I think they'll win. I'll take Ncc 20-14.

I can't wait to watch the game against Ryle. What happens if this "down" class beats Ryle AGAIN. They'll probably want to run their coach off again too. 20+ years of football futility in Union has to be frustrating.

Highlands has won many a games without Dale or tuition students and will win many more. But where did the misconception start that Highlands doesn't take tuition students? Is that the new story schools like Ryle tell their kids who want to leave to go to an academically and football superior school? My understanding is that there's limited tuition spots open in each grade every year. I do know of a few in every grade including some on the freshmen and varsity football teams. Jealousy will eat you up inside nation.

Fair enough. With Cooper being the new school in the area and building a strong football program, I find them a welcome addition. I'm glad they were able to work out a game deal. One loss to a team isn't going to make Highlands fans not like them. I hope the series continues. The worst post probably came from Fear the Nation whose team beat a typically weak Lexcath team and a winless Covcath team that came out in week 2 in their ridiculous white pants waving the white flag from the opening kickoff.

Wow Hellbird. First off, highlands was in 5A from 2007-2010. They won every 5A title every year they were in 5A. As someone who attended most of the playoff games the last 8 years, I can say unequivocally that 4A was the much tougher class. Granted Highlands talent was at a very high level during those years. Last week Cooper was better than Highlands. They were more experienced and understood what it took defensively to win last week. Highlands went home, reviewed the tape, made some changes, practiced, and came back with a better approach this week. Now back to the Cooper-Highlands game. It was 23-13 late 4th qtr. i watched the tape multiple times. If Highlands doesn't go for it on 4th and forever from their own 15 giving Cooper a short field, what does the score end up? Highlands had to go for it, otherwise they're conceding the game with 3-4 minutes left. If they punt, Cooper burns up the time and we get a 23-13 final. My guess is Coach Borchers knows he didn't destroy Highlands and the final number wasn't indicative of it being a close game. A few plays could've changed the outcome. Does Cooper beat Highlands again if they had to play later this year? We'll never know because they don't play. Maybe they do, maybe they don't. Its unfortunate Cooper petitioned up. Was it possibly to avoid the scenario of having to beat Highlands or Covcath a second time. Sorry if you disagree, but its a fact that the road to a 6A finals berth is much easier the years when Trinity is on the other side, than it is having to beat Covcath then Highlands every year just to advance to the semis. Act like you've been there even though you haven't and may never get there. There's no need to act like a certain fan who's turned almost everyone against his team. Your coaches and players don't deserve that. I for one will be rooting for Cooper or whoever represents N. Ky. to win the 6A title.

I like how reporters always combine Highlands with another team for total combined state titles. You can combine Highlands with anyone and it adds up to a lot of titles. I expect the article the day after the Simon Kenton Highlands game to say "Highlands and Simon Kenton combine for 23 state titles!" They'll probably leave out that none of the titles are from Simon Kenton.

It sounds like the offense found some things that work. Lets hope it continues.

Two more Ohio teams, a Beechwood team that shoved Covcath all over the field last year, and a good passing Lexcath team. After watching Covcath bumble the ball all over the field last night, I'm not sure they can win any of the first six.

So if tuition is $5000, you can't get a $5000 scholarship but you can get 5-$1000 scholarships? Makes sense. That's fair. You still don't pay anything. All one has to do is read the recorder newspaper and see all these scholarships people are "winning". What would happen if a kid in Independence won a $1000 scholarship to the high school of his choice, and his choice was to use it towards out of district tuition to Highlands? I don't think it would fly. But it's fine if it's for the private school? Goes on all the time.

I'd like to see him play at some college program better than Northern Kentucky U. I think he could play and do well in the MAC. I've seen him play multiple times over the years. He was the best player on Ncc last year, regardless of what you may have read on this board from a few people.

I did. I missed one. Highlands 6 of the last 7 over Ncc. Lets hope they play in the finals next week.

I would diversify the offense. The Qb ran the ball in almost every play in the 2 games I saw last year.

Highlands has won 5 of the last 6. I see this trending like the Covcath football rivalry. Ncc got the upset early in the season before Highlands was back to full strength. Highlands has played a much tougher schedule. I'll pick Highlands today.

They didn't have to worry about Covington Catholic last year. They couldn't even beat Holmes!
