Definitely not too high. They are easily a top 3 team in the state, and I have them at number 1. The Bishop Gorman win is probably the best win by any team in the state. They also have 15 point wins over top 20 teams in Lexington Catholic and Lafayette along with a road win at Ballard. Independent of results, they also look like the best team in the state.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I just see those 4. I guess you could argue Oldham Co and Walton-Verona put the 8th next, or Knox Central and Corbin for the 13th. But I don't think you can put them on a level with the top 4.

2017 Gardner Law King of the Bluegrass

Don't count out Scott Co. They have just a good a chance to win it as any of these teams. Still, 5 out of 6 is pretty good odds. -

1. Ballard might be the quickest team I have ever seen. Their defensive pressure/intensity/quickness is unbelievable. They were remarkably fun to watch. 2. Adam Kunkel and Jay Scrubb have worked their way into the Mr Basketball Conversation. I know Mr Basketball isn't determined by the KOB, but the two days I watched these two were at the highest level. Faulkner is still probably at the top of the list, but those two are in contention. 3. The top 5 finishers in this tournament will all have a chance at a bigger title in March. I'll be surprised if the state champion isn't either Scott Co or one of those 5 teams. 4. Trinity is really good, and might be even better next year. 5. David Johnson is really good and will be even better next year. 6. There are some guys who can really throw it down. Rogers from Fern Creek had a viscous putback dunk. Faulkner had a big one. CovCath had several guys who can throw it down. I'm sure there were several others, but those all come to mind. -
Did CCH peak at the beginning of the season?

One thing that really hurt Covington Catholic the last two days was having to play Ballard in the second round. Ballard is one of the quickest and highest intensity defenses I have ever seen. They completely wore CovCath out. Then coming back the next day to face an elite Fern Creek team was just too much. Covington Catholic could definitely beat any of their last three opponents if they played them again, but they could lose to all three as well. I believe there are 6 elite teams in the state, and they are definitely one of them. -
2018 All "A" State Tournament Brackets Announced

Agree 100%. Owensboro Catholic, Newport/NCC, Paris, and Somerset also could make some noise. -
Covington Catholic 71 Ballard 61

Ruthsatz really struggled with Ballard's quickness, especially early on. With Ballard forcing tons of Turnovers. They just couldn't come capitalize and had an abysmal three point shooting night. -
Mercer County 63 Anderson County 62
Rez replied to Iceman13's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Interesting end to this one. Anderson was down 4 and hit a 3 with around 6 seconds left. Clock kept running (I'm assuming Anderson was out of timeouts) so Faulkner didn't pick up the ball until about 3 seconds left. Anderson needed to stop the clock so in a panic one of their players went out of bounds to slap Faulkner on the arm. Faulkner then shoved him. Refs blew the whistle but the clock went to 0 before stopping. Refs huddled at mid court for a minute before eventually signaling that the game was over. It didn't appear they called anything, but it's possible they decided it should be offsetting Technical fouls. -
Christian County 90 Valley 70

Is this correct? The KHSAA scoreboard shows Valley beat Hopkinsville and Mayfield today. Surely they didn't play 3 games? -
Campbell County 67 Montgomery County 50

He had to be something like 20-20 from the line. I think I heard as a team Campbell shot 34-37 FT -

Top 10 High school players in KHSAA history
Rez replied to a topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
One guy who technically isn't eligible for this list, but I've been interested in reading about lately is Sammy Moore (Central 1952). He led Central to KHSAL Championships in 1951 and 1952, and to a runner-up finish in 1950. He was all tournament team all three years, and I believe actually tournament MVP all 3 years. He also led Central to the 1952 National Championship and was named MVP of that tournament. He led the state in scoring in 1952. I have no idea how that compares with the others stars of that era, but it sounded very impressive to me. Of interest, Moore went on to play for the Harlem Globetrotters. -
Top 10 High school players in KHSAA history

See post #36. I believe Lofton has had the best high school career of the 2000s, and he definitely has some special accomplishments. I actually almost had him in my top 10, but replaced him last minute. Miller's high school career was great, but it wasn't on the level of top 10 all-time. -
