Thank you to "frankdracman23" of doing a more in-depth way of explaining of what I was trying to express as a possible reason of why neither school is able to work out scheduling the other school. Again, Good Luck to both in the upcoming Regional..... who knows may see them play their depending on the draw and the progression of each team.

I also have no dog in this fight, but if you look at your title to the start of the thread and some of the statements made in your posts, it leads to the perception of avoidance. As for the government cover up/double talk, seems to me more reality of scheduling rather than your assumption, but again one persons opinion. If you read the bolded section above, did you not answer your own question? So if you already have the answer to the question you asked to start the thread, then why the question? This started the thread: How come NCC and ND don't play each other? Looks like these 2 haven't played each other in the regular season in years. Did something happen? Is there a grudge? NCC is a small school, but they both are usually 2 of the top volleyball programs in NKY each year. One would think they could find it in their schedule to play each other and drop some of the weaker teams on the schedule that they both beat easily. You are asking why they are not playing, but in your own admission you said why, I guess I am confused?? They both play stronger schedules than most and they both have to play district opponents which may be of lesser talent, but yet those district games have to be played, plus the year to year contracts that are to be honored, so maybe there just not room to add this game. So back to my point of finding room to play this game, not an issue of big or little school. I would think if both are willing to travel the state to play, that neither are avoiding each other as a "big/little" school issue or whatever you are trying to suggest, it is a matter of scheduling conflicts or availability which would put a hole into your "government cover up". The statement of scheduling was actually a compliment towards both schools and their strength of schedule and not one of avoidance, which by perception of previous posts is why I assumed what you are trying to suggest. This may be a good question to ask one of the two coaches.... may take out all perception issues, just a thought??

Seems a bit of an ax to grind with NCC? Clyde brought up a great point with playing schools outside the 9th region to ready themselves for post season play. Have you happen to take a look at NCC's schedule? If I am not mistaken they played schools in Louisville and in Ohio and I think those schools may have been as big as Notre Dame??? Honestly I don't feel the schools not playing each other has anything to do with size of the schools, more like the quality of schedule and it just not working out between the two schools being able to come to a mutual agreement on when they play. Both schools have players that will eventually play at the next level, so I commend the coaches on playing outside the 9th Region. This will not only help them in post season play, but also help expose those girls that have the opportunity and drive to play at the next level. I would suggest speaking with your coach before suggesting that NCC would not rather play due to school size or IMO your suggestion of "avoiding" playing Notre Dame. I was very impressed with the Zimmerman girl from NCC. This girls seems to do all of the little things that seem to go unnoticed at times. This kid plays with a TON of heart and never takes a minute off each game. I haven't noticed her name in the press a lot but after what I have seen, she is very responsible for a big part of NCC's success this season and just wanted to give her a little shout. After her play in the All A this past weekend and to look at a very nasty scare on her leg, there should be NO DOUBT how important this young lady is to the Lady Breds!! Way to go Loren..... Keep up the hard work!!!!!

I'm just making a point that Highlands gets their fair share of athletes from other schools. I agree with Front of the Rim that neither Weyer nor Greene are transfers. However varsity minutes as a freshman shouldn't dictate whether they "enrolled" or they are "transfers". Btw I believe Greene turned out to be one heck of a football player and track star. Not bad for an "out of district" athlete for the Bluebirds.

Ben Weyer is no more a transfer than Ryan Greene is for Highlands. Please explain the difference.

I guess that I may not be a properly educated in this area, but didn't the original tread have to do with the Coach not factoring in the All A and the games to be played on Saturday? If I recall it was in response to how McNick cancelled a game because of an issue and a poster saying that he hopes they play and not cancel? I will have to go back and look, but the response I was making was for Saturday, I don't recall Thursday being a factor or even mentioned???? Any way, I assume that I didn't explain myself well, but my point was that coaches will schedule games during the All A in the rare event of an upset. I realize on paper that NCC should be the heavy favorite, but as with any game things do happen. Injuries, illness, suspensions..... are things that just cant be factored in, so as I stated games sometimes are scheduled as a precaution of the unforeseen. But again, where and how does Thursday factor into Saturday games?? Also isn't this a 3 team deal according to your info? with that being said, if for some reason things change it would allow a coach to cancel and still not effect the other schools that much. Worst case is that each team may lose a game or they could play each other in a double header or somehow the NCC team would play in any of the cases their are solutions. So my point still the same, the Coach was scheduling games in a RARE event issue of an early exit. As previously stated I would assume it is always easier to cancel a game rather than try to pick one up an in this case I think the coach did a great job of minimal impact to all.

Even new to the BGP on softball, in other sports teams will schedule games along with the All A games. I know in basketball that happens and if a team exits early then they are not trying to pick up games, for that week. This also makes it easier for teams to schedule those games with the agreement if they go deep into the All A tourney that it is agreed upon to cancel games with a clear understanding. So maybe your head coach was just doing what most do so there is not a long layoff?? IMO

Maybe no church requirement at highlands but try out theses names: Lorenzen, Smith, Draud, just to name a few and that was in the past. I will not name the present just to save those players the pressure of Highlands recruiting. Lets be careful on who you claim to recruit until you look in your own backyard.

I feel that there is a very simple answer for this issue. In Ohio, a student/athlete can not compete in a "club" sport while playing a varsity sport. Unless this has changed recently that has been the rule in the past. If the state of Kentucky would adopt the same rule it would take care of this issue. If you feel the "club" sport coaches are willing to work with the high school softball coaches.... well that just will not happen. Too much money and ego involved to do so. As for the post about Coach Barnes, I have talked to many people that know this man and I can say that the person who was at church better go back and hit the confessional. From what I have been told about this man he has been more than willing to work with players in club sports, but expects those that are in club sports to be at games and practices when requested and it has been the club coaches that will NOT work with changes in schedules. I don't think what some realize is that those who are missing a fast pitch game or practice for a club sport game or practice has an obligation to their high school team first. While most schools don't make cuts in softball because of numbers, there are those girls that are on the team but not in the lineup that don't miss a practice or game. Now is that fair to the girls that never miss? Also, is it fair to the girls that take this sport serious and have aspirations of playing at the next level? Most importantly is it fair to what is on the front of the jersey, the school? Softball is a spring outdoor sport and the factor that can not be controlled is the weather. Changes will happen and players, parents and club sport coaches need to be able to adjust to that. If a club sport coach cant then I would have to look and see if this is a coach I want my child playing for. I am sure if it is the other way around and the club sport coach has a change in their schedule, they expect the student/athlete to miss their high school sport....? I will say I know of athletes that end up choosing either the softball high school or club sports. While most will have say that it hurts softball if they choose, I have nothing but the utmost respect for that player and parents of that player to make such a hard decision. Obviously, this player must be very good in that club sport and is a very good high school player in that club sport, so do make such a decision for the betterment of themselves and the team is very commendable and respectable. So I guess if the KHSAA would put something into motion to address this issue it would help, but as most know, the KHSAA can be somewhat timid about such decision because of law suits, and honestly I can say I dont blame them. Seems like the way to get what you want is if you have the money, lets go to court:idunno::isurrender: But as for Coach Barnes, it seems the post about him is VERY INCORRECT due to the support seen here and from others I have spoke to, Keep up the good work Coach!! I agree with you. I would find it hard to believe that a parent would know how athletic a child is at the kindergarten age much less sending them at that age from school to school. If a child has a birthdate that is close to the cutoff age, I would assume that a parent would look at the social and mental development before deciding when to send that child to school. Also, if a parent knows that at such a young age as kindergarten that a child is going to be a standout athlete, then more power to those parents. I would have to say that those taking that chance will be wrong more than correct. Just because a child may be big at a certain age doesn't qualify them as the next Jordon. Now as the years go along and parents choose to hold a child back I could see the possible reason for athletics, but even then its a rare case. As for some of the student/athletes mentioned, I am familiar with a couple and I can assure you with their current class schedules of honors classes and GPA's that a student that has been held back usually doesn't have such a academic resume. It seems some are trying to justify or lump others into a select few that may have been held back for certain reasons by including them in this thread. Honestly no matter what the situation is as one post was made, "if the state says they are legal, then they are legal", IMO that is saying it all. Also, to me a year older would mean a calendar year. So if one kid turns 16 before the end of May (end of the normal school year) and another turns 16 later in the year does that mean because a kid can drive before the other one there is that much of a difference? I know that is a bit of a stretch, but really how much does it matter?? Everyone keeps bringing up Hatton's age, but from what I can see he will be playing his senior year and that is all that really matters. If Dixie were a 3 year regional champion I would say it makes a difference, but that is not the case. May it help him with the next level if he is.... yes, but overall it seems by including others in this thread it is just trying to lump anyone that is successful.

Considering McDonald's GPA and class rank I can assure you his grades have been as such all 9 3/4 years of school. As for his class load at NCC from what I heard people saying at the conference awards banquet he is in Honors and AP classes, so again not a guarantee that a student with such a class load couldn't have been held back but again.... Not the case. Depending on the time of year a child is born it is possible to be driving as a soph and still not be held back. If I am not mistaken his mother is also a teacher, not to say in some cases the child of a teacher could have been held back, but it is usually a rare case and in this case i can assure you that you are not correct. Again, could Hatton have been held back for athletics it's possible but for McDonald I would venture to say no.

You may be correct... he may be approaching 6'8". After seeing him at the Conference banquet, Drew is really starting to come/grow into his body. A number of us at our table remarked how much he has grown and is really starting to thin out. Hard to believe this kid is only a soph. He doesnt even look like he is shaving yet... which I am sure he is, but for a kid his size, his mobility and touch around the basket is really impessive and continues to improve and with what seems to be a little more physical maturity to yet to take place this kid has so much infront of him!! He has already made believers with some of the BGP'ers that werent sure of his talents early in the year. This kid impressed a lot of people this year with his talents on and off the court.... as stated by a member at our table after speaking with Drew, "he is a very modest and impressive young man".

So I understand your response, is what you are saying that the High School teams need to adhere to the schedules of the Club Volleyball, AAU Basketball and Club Soccer coaches? So I assume that in boy's baseball that all of the coaches have an understanding for the same? IMO, if a player goes out for a high school team she is making the comittment to her team until that team has been eliminated from season play, such as losing in the district, regional or state tournament play. In some cases girls may be cut from a team or have to sit behind a part time player, so if a spot is won by another player that plays club or AAU sports but that player only shows up when there is no conflict with the her schedule that is ok? While that player may be a lot better, I feel it is not fair to the girls that either may be cut or if made the team sit the bench behind that part time player. Just as everyother sport there are those girls that like one sport more than the other and I understand that, but to possibly miss practices or games to attend a non high school event to me warrents some type of disciplinary actions. It seems that some feel fast pitch is the rec sport and that the club or AAU sports are the demanded sport. Again, IMO I feel that the coach for the AAU sport or Club sport should talk with the player and suggest that they committ to their high school softball coach and team. Don't the fast pitch coaches have to wait for the winter season sports to end before they ask for players to attend workouts or practices? It is a respect factor and I feel if players are made to decide on which sport to play... high school or AAU/Club that is a lot of pressure for a young adult. If all coaches work with the player, why can''t this work? I know that one of the post said that it could cause girls not to play a sport, but that is happening in other sports so why not set the same restrictions that basketball and football have? Or even a better idea, why doesnt the KHSAA and the AAU organizers and Club sport organizers hold a summit and try to find a happy medium??? While not having any direct involvement with this issue, to me it seems that some type of resolution could be made for the betterment of the kids!!

The AAU coach should understand this is a high school sport and if that player is a valuable part of his AAU team then he should respect the player, the school, the coach and most importantly the teammates of the softball team. and the AAU coach should work with the high school schedule not the other way around.

Well our team played about 12 games in that league last year. I do know the person that was running the league had contiunal problems with teams cancelling at the last minute and you mention CCHS, we were supposed to play them 2 times in doubleheader games and they cancelled both times. I have just recently spoke with a member of the league committe and ALL games will be played at Kenton Lakes this season and will start the week after the high school regionals are finished. He said they will have the use of all 4 fields which will allow for teams to play 2 games each week. I would ask that before slamming the league too much to remember that it was the first year anything such as this was attempted and for our team we were very happy with the results and plan on playing again this season. I know the person that was running this put a lot of time and effort into that league. Unless it is a summer team, the league is most made of up teams that are for the girls that dont play summer ball and coaches would have problems with players showing up. I will also say we were to play NCC 2 times and they had to cancel because of such reasons. Unlike travel teams where player put up hunderds of dollars to play, this league doesnt require that. I think we paid about $40 per player if that and I assume that when you dont have a lot of money invested there isnt the commitment.

The problem is there are some cases places where the AD's are worse than the fans. I have even heard one AD making comments saying: "Helen Keller could have called that one", or "my seeing eye-dog could do better." The comment was directed at the official for sure. This AD is also a coach in a sport. So as bad as parents get, and dont get me wrong, THERE ARE SOME REALLY BAD ONES, there are some coaches, AD's and other administrators that are just as bad. So I guess what I am trying to say, is that the Coaches, AD's and other administrators should lead by example and that maybe would deter the fans from verbal abuse towards officials. IMO

Leave officiating out of it. The officials did a nice job at the All A. NewCath was the better team that night. Holy Cross was the better team Saturday. Why not leave it at that?

As I stated, I am all for sending a message, but if done at the wrong time you can lose players. There was a time later in the game the coach called over one of his players to say something and you could tell by her body language there was something wrong. Films of games are great things not only for players but also coaches to learn from. Coaching is not easy no matter at what level, but sometimes coaches have to take a look in the mirror and say "was that the right move?" It may not be a bad move to tell his players, if the coach feels he may have made a mistake, to tell his players as such, that will get the respect of the coaches players and take what could have been a mistake and turn it into a positive situtation?:idunno: As for the group he replaced them with, I agree they did a GREAT job!! So as I stated if done eariler in the season this could have created more depth/deeper bench play? just a thought
