9th Region pre season top 10

Featured Replies

Lets see what everyone thinks

1. Ryle.... Bc they always seem to win despite their drama

2. NDA...The addition of Smith should help ease their late season collapse

3. Connor.... Same as Ryle they are always right there

4. St Henry....Nolle Butts is one of the better pitchers in the area and should keep them in most games, good coaching

5. Boone....Good pitching and solid coach and depth

6. NCC....BC of Lawnboy

7. Cooper....Getting really thin on chooses

8. Highlands....Can their youth come through after some what of a disappointing season

9. Dixie....Not real sure what they have, lost best player I believe

10. Beechwood....Great end of the season run

I purposely left off Holy Cross bc they mainly deserve to be off but I have no idea what to expect. I would say all but 2 or 3 haven't picked up a glove or bat since the loss in Districts. There has been no practice or any type of condition and they are not planning on starting until the offical date of 2-15..

With that being said I have been told their best pitcher has been taking lessons all winter and I believe she throws well enough if she can just improve on her control and hit her spots better she will be ok. Grace Herrman is suppose to play this season and can be one the top catchers in the area if not one of the best in the state (that is if coach lets her catch bc that is where is grand kid plays) I know for sure if Grace would have stuck with softball instead of soccer she would have gotten some type of D1 offer as a catcher.

The core of the team has been playing together since 7th grade but saddly most only play Feb 15th through the end of the season.

They have one major hurdly to over come. I they can I think on their best day they could compete with the top 5 but on a bad day they would struggle to compete with the bottom 5..

Any thoughts or reports on other teams would be great.

That's awesome to hear about Grace!! If she plays, that adds another great bat to your lineup. Madyson & Grace can both do some damage.

Yes she has been hitting with us some the last couple of weeks and looks good. She could be towards the top in the area in Avg, HR, and stolen bases. If she is used right (catcher) it will help the pitching some also.

It would be a shame if she wasn't put behind the plate!!

Agreed but its a shame not to pitch your clear #1 in the semi's of the district tourney also!! Outcome probably would have been the same but at least try.

6. NCC....BC of Lawnboy

Somebody has to carry the bats.

Lets hear about your top 10

Lets hear about your top 10

1. Boone, Conner, ND, Ryle. In no particular order.

Best of the rest Dixie, NewCath, Highlands, Cooper, Beechwood, Newport, HC

Until a team from somewhere other than Boone County wins the 9th Region Boone, Conner, & Ryle are at the top. However don't know what order I'd put them in. With the addition of Haley Smith, Notre Dame only improves their chances and are legit to be added to the mix.

The rest of the teams, it's a crap shoot. You never say it can't be done, but it will be a tall order for any of the other teams to win three in a row in the Regional to overcome the top 4.

Dixie is young, but has a nice group of players returning and a solid pitcher in Fr. Bailey Spencer.

NewCath returns 6 starters (5 So. & 1 Jr.), but will have to find 2 solid outfielders to replace. With only 1 Sr. & 1 other Jr. returning, who both saw very limited action, the Breds might be a year away from a solid 9.

Highlands only lost 1 starter from last year and are just as young as the Breds. They are improving each year.

St. Henry returns one of the best hitters in the region in Noelle Butts, but will she have enough around her to make some noise?

Cooper needs to place the loss of a starting pitcher, however they return two solid players in 2nd baseman Lauren Willett and catcher Jessica Koors. IMO, Koors is the most under-rated hitter in all NKY, absolutely "hurts" the ball.

Beechwood made a nice run at the end of the year and Coach Megan Hinck is doing a very solid job in bringing this bunch along.

Newport returns So. pitcher Katlyn Hoeh and quite a few starters from last year, one of the better Newport squads.

I saw Dixie play last year and was impressed. They appeared to be very young but if they return all or most of their players I think they will surprise people.

Additionally Butts is one of the best pitchers in NKY. St. Henry graduated quite a few last year so it will be interesting to see how they will do this year and what they have returning. Butts, Kramer and Dietz are there core returners from last year and are all three solid players to build the team around.

While Dixie is young they should be very good. They have a very nice sophomore class and freshman pitcher Spencer returning. They are young but they should be solid.

I agree with your top four. All four teams should be pretty solid. When was the last time a team other than a Boone County team won the region?

I would include St. Henry in the best of the rest just because of Butts and Kramer. Both very good athletes and both can pitch. However, it will depend on what else they have to go with them, but that is a good start.

Highlands could jump up in the rankings if what I am hearing is correct about a young frosh pitcher from Dixie possibly transferring.
