Final via KHSAA scoreboard. Any game details?

NCC came out flat and went down 8 points to start the game. The coach put in the JV players and they battled it back to 3 points.

Holy Cross pushed the lead to 21 in third quarter and coasted from there. HC is good. Kiernan struggled a bit with the size of HC but

was the only reason it wasn't a 20+ point game. NCC looked very tired while HC had more hustle plays. NCC guards could not find the rim on

shots most of the night. Not sure if it was HC defense or tired legs.

WOW! I never wouldve thought HC wouldve beat them that bad. HC is clicking on all cylinders and there peaking at the right time. Congrads to HC. NCC will bounce back, there a very good ball club.

I am guessing NCC not shooting around 40 more free throws helped HC this time around.

Holy Cross inside game dominated the game early and often with scoring from Abby Hassert and Ally Mayhaus. Rebounding was another big key as HC dominated the glass.

Abby Hassert led HC with 18 pts, Ally Mayhaus 14 and DeAsia Beal with 11. Also, pg play of Dajah McClendon was great tonight. HC follows up the big win over Conner with another big win tonight over NCC. Breds were led by Nicole Kiernan with 15.

I give HC credit for a great game. Give me a break "Tired legs?" I know they played last night(NCC) but give HC a HI FIVE. This is a very good team.

WOW. Holy Cross made a statement with this game. Take a look at the video and it will tell you all you need to know.

Holy Cross played what looked to be a very nice match up zone defense. NCC made NO adjustments to counter the entire night. Holy Cross attacked NCC every time down the floor and had no problem scoring for most of the game. While watching the game in person and now the video it is very clear to see how well of a nice job the Holy Cross coaching staff made adjustments from the previous game in the All A Regional. For most of the night NCC was one shot and done, while Holy Cross did a very good job of forcing bad shots and limiting possesions.

It seemed the coach from NCC was sending his starters a message early in the game, but is this the time of year to be doing so? The districts are just around the corner and a move such as this would have been better served earlier in the season. If you look at the body language of the players, this move had an adverse effect. There are games that players have to learn how to grind thru and this would have been a very good one to do so if they are to make a nice run in the districts and regionals. It was hard to notice last night but if you watch this video it seems easy to see. While I am all for the disclipline of players and sending messages, there is a time and place for that and this late in the season just seemed to be a bad move IMO.

While Holy Cross did a very nice job on defense, NCC still needs to run their offense thru Keirnan!! Some may agrue this point, but I would have to say that Nikki is one of the best players in the region if not the state, so getting her the ball may not be a bad idea. She can hit from about anywhere on the court, so allow her to do what she does best, play the game.

Hopefully this game provided lessons learned for all and things get put in the right direction for the Lady Breds.

Good Luck to both teams in the post season, and again Congrats to Holy Cross on a very well excuted game plan in this game.

Nice post.

IMO, you send a message whenever you have to, you don't pass up a "teachable moment".

I've only made it through the 1st quarter of the video, NewCath JV replace the starting 5 about 2 two minutes into the game and did a nice job against the HC starters.

As I stated, I am all for sending a message, but if done at the wrong time you can lose players. There was a time later in the game the coach called over one of his players to say something and you could tell by her body language there was something wrong. Films of games are great things not only for players but also coaches to learn from. Coaching is not easy no matter at what level, but sometimes coaches have to take a look in the mirror and say "was that the right move?" It may not be a bad move to tell his players, if the coach feels he may have made a mistake, to tell his players as such, that will get the respect of the coaches players and take what could have been a mistake and turn it into a positive situtation?:idunno:

As for the group he replaced them with, I agree they did a GREAT job!! So as I stated if done eariler in the season this could have created more depth/deeper bench play? just a thought

A trio of Holy Cross players had double-doubles — led by sophomore Abby Hassert's 18-point, 12-rebound night — as the Indians avenged an earlier loss to Newport Central Catholic with a 56-44 win Saturday.

Fellow sophomore Ally Mayhaus scored 12 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and senior Desia Beal added 11 points and 10 rebounds to the win. Hassert's 18 points was a career high.

Holy Cross blew open the game out-scoring NCC, 14-3, in the third quarter.

NewCath, which has now dropped three straight, was led by Nicole Kiernan's 15 points. The Thoroughbreds beat Holy Cross, 51-43, back on Jan. 9 in the All A Classic.
