Looks like these 2 haven't played each other in the regular season in years. Did something happen? Is there a grudge? NCC is a small school, but they both are usually 2 of the top volleyball programs in NKY each year. One would think they could find it in their schedule to play each other and drop some of the weaker teams on the schedule that they both beat easily.

I think you could ask the same question of many teams in the 9th region. In my opinion, I would like to see the perennial top 6-8 teams in the region play each other at least once a year. I don't want to state who I think those are because I don't want to hijack this thread anymore than I already have. They know who they are and NDA and NCC are certainly on that list.

If I'm NDA and I'm trying to get ready for the Louisville teams so that I can make a run for the championship I'm not wasting games with many NKY teams. I'm playing St Henry, Ryle, and NCC and that's it.

Interesting point Clyde, but I don't think it's that simple. I believe they have to play their district seed games against Holmes, Covington Latin, Beechwood and Holy Cross. Also, it would seem that they would play other NKY schools that are NKY Division I (e.g., Conner, Dixie). I'm not speaking from knowledge here but based on who they have on the schedule that's what I guess.

I realize they have to play certain games and I realize they can't travel all over. They just don't get a lot of out of playing most NKY teams. Selfishly, they would fare better going to Cincinnati, Louisville, and regional/national tournaments to get their work in.

Of course, you have to factor in travel time and costs. I get that. I'm speaking in theory.

I'm sure I'm going to have a bunch of folk shouting me down on this, but I'm just going to throw this theory out there and see what happens. As more and more girls outside the parochial school leagues are beginning to play club and school volleyball from an earlier age it could just be that Northern Kentucky begins to become a lot of more difficult in future years for NDA. Just as an example, I think Cooper will be a handful for any team over the next couple of years. There are other teams that could become more challenging as well. Ryle, who is already good, has an excellent program stretching back to their feeder middle school program. Many, if not most of these girls play club, too.

Clyde, sorry for taking you too literally. I should have known that was your intent because you are too knowledgeable about prep sports to have that statement taking so literally. My bad.

I think ND is already doing that with NCC being the glaring omission. KHSAA site shows ND played..

St. Henry

Ryle

Cooper

Simon Kenton

Campbell County

Beechwood

That's easily the top 6 teams in NKY - minus NCC. Plus ND played some Ohio schools as well. NCC not on there sticks out, which makes me think somebody out there doesn't want this to happen. I know as of a few years ago, they were no longer scrimmaging each other - don't know if that's still true today.

It may be as simple as school size - ND doesn't need to be playing any more small schools than it has to. Or maybe NCC doesn't want to play another big school. ???

No need to apologize, my friend. I always enjoy the discussion.

To your point, i HOPE NKY volleyball does get better. Quite frankly, it's boring right now knowing it's either NDA or the occasional Cru that's going to win.

Does Highlands football fit your "boring" definition as well?

Seems a bit of an ax to grind with NCC? Clyde brought up a great point with playing schools outside the 9th region to ready themselves for post season play. Have you happen to take a look at NCC's schedule? If I am not mistaken they played schools in Louisville and in Ohio and I think those schools may have been as big as Notre Dame???

Honestly I don't feel the schools not playing each other has anything to do with size of the schools, more like the quality of schedule and it just not working out between the two schools being able to come to a mutual agreement on when they play.

Both schools have players that will eventually play at the next level, so I commend the coaches on playing outside the 9th Region. This will not only help them in post season play, but also help expose those girls that have the opportunity and drive to play at the next level.

I would suggest speaking with your coach before suggesting that NCC would not rather play due to school size or IMO your suggestion of "avoiding" playing Notre Dame.

Good luck to both next week in the region tourney

If u read my post, I didn't say NCC is avoiding anyone or played an inferior schedule, in fact, the 2 play the same teams each year. I stated that NCC may not want to add ANOTHER big school, which means they are already playing a lot of them. If you've read any of my previous posts on other threads, I've stated that NCC is way, way better than their record indicates due to their brutal schedule - they swept through Districts without a hiccup.

Your assertion that the 2 schools don't play because they can't come "to a mutual agreement on when they play" sounds like government cover-up double-talk. I don't have a dog in this fight, but it seems odd that this game isn't played. They both play everyone else, but don't play each other. And apparently this question has been asked for years here.

I also have no dog in this fight, but if you look at your title to the start of the thread and some of the statements made in your posts, it leads to the perception of avoidance. As for the government cover up/double talk, seems to me more reality of scheduling rather than your assumption, but again one persons opinion.

If you read the bolded section above, did you not answer your own question? So if you already have the answer to the question you asked to start the thread, then why the question?

This started the thread:

How come NCC and ND don't play each other?

Looks like these 2 haven't played each other in the regular season in years. Did something happen? Is there a grudge? NCC is a small school, but they both are usually 2 of the top volleyball programs in NKY each year. One would think they could find it in their schedule to play each other and drop some of the weaker teams on the schedule that they both beat easily.

You are asking why they are not playing, but in your own admission you said why, I guess I am confused?? They both play stronger schedules than most and they both have to play district opponents which may be of lesser talent, but yet those district games have to be played, plus the year to year contracts that are to be honored, so maybe there just not room to add this game. So back to my point of finding room to play this game, not an issue of big or little school.

I would think if both are willing to travel the state to play, that neither are avoiding each other as a "big/little" school issue or whatever you are trying to suggest, it is a matter of scheduling conflicts or availability which would put a hole into your "government cover up". The statement of scheduling was actually a compliment towards both schools and their strength of schedule and not one of avoidance, which by perception of previous posts is why I assumed what you are trying to suggest.

This may be a good question to ask one of the two coaches.... may take out all perception issues, just a thought??
