No disrespect to Carson Williams but I don't see Owen Co. hanging around with SK. He will make his plays and get his stats but the team result will be all Pioneers. Can't wait to get this stuff started for real!

Has anyone watched SK's JV team the last 3 seasons? They have won a ton of games. Why would anyone not assume that their JV success from the past will result in Varsity success now?

Was at a scrimmage for the NKMSAA this morning and was watching a nice competitive contest between 2 teams but I was annoyed at the behavior of one of the fan bases. Is it appropriate to cheer when a free throw is missed? Or laugh at a girl when she falls down? Seems to me like fans, especially at younger levels, should learn to stay classier by sticking to cheering FOR their team and not against others.

Niece for sure. I am sure she has the keys to the offense and I doubt SK misses much of a beat. Look for them to be regional contenders again if not the favorite in a down year.

Also realized a typo in my initial response, Grant is ranked 5th (not 8th) which is where I think they belong. Just trying to balance out because there were a bunch of people saying they should be higher. I also believe any of the top 7 teams can win the region. Its one of the most wide open tournaments in the state. Should be exciting!

Didn't know that I was a fan of the girls program. Just because I think Austin Johnson should be in the top 10 doesn't mean that I agree with the other 2 that are. I didn't see Grant any this summer as my child plays for another team. I am only going on what I saw last season. According to the stats from last season, Grant Co. gave up the most amount of points of any team in the 8th region. That is my basis for my response. Personally, I felt that Austin Johnson should have won District Tourney MVP last year. Without him, Grant is a different team which would be the case for any team and their relationship with their point guard.

Agree with you on the Johnson kid. He is also a strong defender and there is little doubt here that he is Grant's best player. Unfortunately I don't know if Grant Co. will play enough defense to win enough games. That's why they are ranked 8th.

I think this program is definitely on the rise and their district that they play in helps. Their coaching staff has done excellent work over the last couple of seasons and I look for Dixie to have a much better record this year than they did a year ago.

Ironically, the year that these two games took place, Grant defeated Walton in the first round of district play. Sometimes, it doesn't matter how far apart a team is from the other. In the end, all teams are judged by what they accomplish in the post-season and crazy things are known to happen in March. It will be fun watching both Walton and GC develop throughout the year however, I don't think either team will struggle at point guard. Grant has Macy Wright returning and Walton will have a healthy Shelby Beckham. Both players are more than capable of handling those duties.

Is the Martin girl still there? I heard she left.

Game was not as close as the score would indicate. Etown is too big for Anderson to guard and Anderson's offense was shooting it from 26 feet. Disappointing for a 1-2 matchup. Maybe Butler gives Etown a better game.....

Not as tough as the Etown/Anderson Co. bracket IMO...

Pretty even matchup, Shelby won on a last second shot during the regular season. Either team could've won this one.

According to KHSAA website, semis are 3 and 5. Finals will be Sunday at 5.

Left at halftime. Appeared to me it was gonna be a battle of 2s vs. 3s. Shelby was making lay ups and GC was making bombs. Thought Shelby would get the win. They will be tough next year. Congrats to GC.

No sour grapes here, Grant outplayed SK tonight in the first quarter and that got the Pioneers beat. Congrats to Coach Grammar and his staff. It was a hard fought game and both teams had their chances. However, the game was called very inconsistently. If I were Steiner, I would make sure I never saw any of the three again. The crew passed on an intentional foul at the end of regulation that was the best tackle I have seen all year. Then they call a cheap technical in OT when two players are fighting for a rebound? Tough to swallow.

Officials in the 8th regional tourney will come from the 10th region.
