IMO, Grant does not play strong defense. Its possible Grant could pull off a win but I still believe SK is 20 points better. They are more physical and play better defense.

GC gave the Pioneers a tough game in Independence but I look for tonight to be a different story. I like SK to win by 20. Especially if the GC student section keeps getting technical fouls called in their games.

SK will dominate. These two teams play on different levels.

Cooper vs. Boone Co. will certainly be a battle.

Is the WKU helmet paying homage to possible state tourney run for SK? I completely believe this is the best team in NKY.

Officials have little to do with how well Grant shot the ball in this game. I would chalk this up to a good night for the home team.

Sounds like coaching to me. If the kid can't take being corrected, then they shouldn't play. Did the kid get struck by the coach? Was there physical contact? Did the coach insult the kid? According to description, these actions did not take place. A coach should not be criticized because they demonstrate passion for the game. Coaches often get the blame when teams fail. What if that kid had inbounded the ball and turned it over and that started the momentum for the other team to make a miracle comeback. Do you think the kid would have received the blame or the coach?

What has happened to Grant Co's defense? Also, I noticed Cummins in the box score. Didn't he tear his ACL in September? Four months seems like a quick recovery. Or is this a different Cummins?

This reflects very poorly on this poll. Got to question what some of the coaches were thinking when they made their votes. Maybe they don't consider Gallatin Co. to be in NKY. Although, I would be just as upset if I were Beechwood, St. Henry, or Dixie. I feel pretty strongly that all 4 of these schools would running clock Silver Grove.

Jesse, SK has also beaten Allen Co-Scottsville in their first matchup handily.

Is their an SK bias because they are in a different region? NCC is very good and possibly better but SK should have won their region last year and they only lost 1 major contributor to their team. Cantrall ratings have them #3 in the state.

Correction, I didn't notice that Newport was in the field. I like their team to win especially since they have already defeated Lloyd this year.

Who is gonna take this year's event? Can Bellevue win their own holiday tournament? Who do you like and why? I believe Lloyd is the favorite. They have more athleticism than the other teams on the list that I know. However, I don't know anything about the school from Ohio.

I agree with SK higher and NCC on the list. I still believe Notre Dame deserves a spot but they are too high.

If SK hits there free throws, this isn't close. Grant doesn't guard as we'll this year as they have in the past.

Emphasis from KHSAA to officials....also being enforced at the NCAA level.

I believe the philosophy at the state tourney has been let the athletes decide who the better team is. Not sure if the new emphasis is better or not. The stronger athlete no longer has an advantage for being stronger. In the game I watched last night, I saw 2 girls take obvious charges and both calls were blocks. This type of call really makes it hard to guard a faster player and might cause us to see lots of zone defense from coaches.

Look for this game to be a high scoring affair. Both coaches will be making their debut with their new schools tonight. I will take Ryle in a close one only because Grant will still be looking for a player to take the leadership role on the floor.

What did you guys notice about the officiating across the state last night? Did HS officials tend to call more like the college game has been called this season or was there no difference? I know that Brossart shot 40 free throws in their game which seems like an awful lot to me.
