wasnt there for the scrimmage... Was Cain covered or not open? Odd that the returning leading receiver to not get any looks. Hoge sure seemed to have confidence in him. Kid has good hands and seems to always get positive YAC. If he wasn't looked to, there is definitely an issue.

I must add that part of the reason SS dropped it as it was right on 2B and the runner was on the bag... No fault on the runner... Just too many bodies I. The same place...

Ok here's the set up.... Bases juiced... 1 out... Pop fly and ruled infield fly to short (ruling there was correct). Short drops the ball, runner on third was off the base at the time the ball hit the glove by about six feet and headed home on the miss... Play at the plate, runner called safe ( close call could have gone either way). Appealed that the runner never tagged. Ump said we dropped it so there was no reason to tag... I think he missed this one... What say you???

There is no "inside the Parker" without a fence... DD hit one this summer into woods at Tealtown ...no fences about 260 feet... Ruling... Ground rule double... Now that was not a good day...

Different sports all together but after coaching boys baseball for somewhere around 20 years and then being thrust into girls fastpitch the last few, there are kids that could crossover and perform well in the other genders sport. I've coached or been involved with some pretty good hitters from the HHS baseball and fastpitch teams... Ramey and Mills, Graybill and Dutcher. As for the hitters, no doubt in my mind, Graybill and Dutcher could go yard on a baseball sized field hitting the baseball. Would they hit .500+, maybe not but wouldn't bet against .400. They might have to slow their timing down to adjust but good hitters can do that. Now that being said Todd and DJ would get theirs too as they are great hitters and would figure it out soon as well. What I am getting at, is where is the lose-lose for the boys? If you get beat by a better player/team, you just got beat by a better player/team... Not by a bunch of girls... Let them play... And by the way... Give Coffey an extra 30 feet to field a ball and no doubt she would be at least even with Whitford...

I agree with sportsfan08. I would rather know who played well and who didn't. Specifically from the HHS squad. Those of us that couldn't make it would like to know. Any stats on Herrgott? Curious to hear how he did? Looked?

Well for what it's worth... 50 to 60 feet in baseball does not compare to 30 feet for fastpitch... Todd Ramey and DJ Mills hit the ball as hard as anyone I've seen. Even as a 15u players I coached third 10 feet behind the bag and still managed to take a couple shots... But I'll take my chances at 50 feet with Ramey and Mills before 30 with Graybill. And that is absolutly no disrespect to Todd or DJ Kids were beating me up as a 14u players. The velocity off the bat is similar the closer you are to the bat, the softball drops off quicker but not within 30 feet. And let's see you stand at 30 feet with Graybill or Dutcher sending lasers at your head, without a mask, see just how tough you are... Sorry for the HHS references but that's who I know...

I know Dutcher did in the Junior Game at first base. She wont take the field without hers.

There lies l some of the problem... I know you didn't mean it that way but they are too concerned about looks... My DD has worn a mask since getting hit in the head her 1st year of 14u... Hasn't hurt her fielding percentage 3 errors in over 200 chances this year... I could care less what she looks like (on the field) as long as everything is intact off the field. I do think 2nd and SS should be optional but not the corners or pitchers. I'm curious to see how many young ones, 4th thru 6th graders, show up at the(shameless plug) HHS softball camp next week with their masks. (PM RCC9 for info).. I know one thing for sure Quillen, Graybill and Dutcher will have theirs on...

I agree and if you needed something they took care of it.... I do have one question though... I thought NKU was a D1 field??? Wouldn't you think they would have better bases... I'm surprised we made it through the Tournament without someone twisting an ankle at first. The condition of the dirt and the grass was great and they kept the field in awesome condition... with the exception of the bases... Kinda a key part of the playing surface....

Congrats to the NDA Pandas and Coach Stephenson. The game wasn't perfect by either team but that's why you play it. Pretty proud of our Birds for a great season! Whitney Quillen did everything you could ever want from a senior! I'm glad I got to watch her play these last 3 years. To the returning players, especially our 4 seniors to be, save just a little bit of that hurt you feel right now and use it as motivation for next season. Work hard in travel ball and come back with a mission. Take Whit's lead and challenge yourselves to be even better. Again, congrats on a great season and thanks from this proud papa!!!

Going to be a tough battle tonight. Both teams bring lots of upside and few weaknesses. Solid pitching in either circle with Smith and Spencer, arguably in the top 2 or 3 in the region. The HHS infield is solid and experienced and while the outfield is still young, they are maturing nicely and feed off the play of the dirt. Defense could be the decider in this one as both teams have displayed they can hit the ball regardless of who is pitching.

Well you clearly did not get my point... My point was that doubles and triples are typically more prevalent than the home run. Not that a home run counted less. And to your point of doubles never catching up to home runs, your comment seemed to be assuming the HR hitter never took another at bat, or only hit 2b, 3b or HRs. if that's the case then of course you are correct. The point that smaller fields prevented home runs was based on the fact that larger fields have more... Much more opportunity for inside the park home run. I guess I can believe that competition has something to do with it... The team with the largest field that was mentioned, Villa. Their opponents win/loss record. 155/329 HHS opponents win/loss record. 379/297 (not including 3 OH and IN games, couldn't find their scores) Competition does matter... If you play teams that, on average lose twice as many games as they win, and you are a good hitter, I would expect those numbers regardless of field dimensions. All of my rant may sound a bit arrogant, but facts are facts. Your team, the Cru, played us very well early in the season and showed our weaknesses at the time. We played poorly BUT it probably would not have mattered because we got smoked... Hats off to the Cru. With a little luck and some better play... Maybe we can get a chance to even the slate in a few days.

Well you are wrong on a few points... And while I do have a good sense of humor, I really don't tell myself jokes on a regular basis. I'll address you last point first... The State of KY home run leader has about 14 or so homers. I have no idea how big their field is but what that does say is that HRs are a small part of slugging %. My DD has a grand total of one but has a Slugging % in the .830 range. Multiple base hits 2b and 3b contribute more toward SLG than home runs do in the grand scheme of things. Larger dimension fields obviously have more open space to cover... Hit one to the fence in the gap gives the runner more time to round the bases and possibly and extra cut... Hmmm seems like I just read that one. Hence even more time to cover the bases. Next point.... I would love to know who the hitters are that are as good or close to it as Shelby. Facing what she has to face in a lot of games... Intentional or not so intentional walks, if they are not, it is usually a mistake pitch. The schedule the Birds play... There are not many gimmies on HHS schedule unless they are mandatory and from what I've seen, they usually get the #1 in the circle. Maybe not always but most of the time. Shelby did not play in a couple games that could have padded her stats. Lastly, why don't we compare the teams the sluggers play against and check the win-loss record of such teams. I'm going to check ours tonight just because... Let's see??? Would Shelby have better stats against teams with losing records or winning records? Well I know one thing... She has some pretty good ones against the ones with winning records. And you may want to witness some of her home runs... You obviously have not since you are under the impression most would not have cleared deeper fences. My original comment was directed about her speed... And yes I do fall for the Shelby lore... If you want to talk about hitting, power hitting especially, there is no one in Northern KY in the same category... I am a self professed HHS Homer (pardon the pun) and I feel a lot of our girls are very good at what they do... Haley Coffey can pick it as good as any SS. As with Whitney Quillen at third... Our first baseman has a .984 fielding % with over 150 chances. We have a team batting avg over .340. Are they all the best in NKY? Maybe not but pretty darn good....

I've got to think NCC is the toughest two seed out. They have played all the ones pretty close I think... As much of a homer as I am, the region runs thru the Pandas. Not predicting they will win it but their ace is on a mission. Just wish it was a mission to South Africa that starts Monday...

My thoughts on the problems at CCHS are that they seem to stem from the administration. The restrictions they put on the programs seem to be designed to fester these problems. From "good ole Boy" network to not allowing middle schoolers to try out if there are enough upper class trying out. Saw both of these first hand. Also I aggree that coaches should have whatever cert is required but to turn down help because they are not hired is nuts. Of the last few successful teams we played, all of them including ours had at least 4 or 5 coaches and I'm sure not all were "employees". This list includes NDA, NCC, Brossart, Conner.... I think all have 20+ wins. My guess is there are quite a few others that are not "coaches" that provide other support as in fundraising and non play related activities as well to allow the coaches to do their job.
