Ravens release Justin Tucker
I think the fact that he had a bad year last year and is getting older, made this much easier and gave them the chance to use the term "football decision". If he was 26 and still making every kick, it would have been much tougher to cut him or wait this out until it got resolved. The fact of the matter is based on what he did last year, there are literally a ton of guys who are much cheaper, younger and don't have a bunch of creepy sexual assault allegations hanging over their head that can be as good, if not better than he was last year. I think that in itself DOES make it a football/business decision.

Beechwood's 8th grader Tyler Fryman
While these offers are fun to talk about, they are just verbal offers and aren't binding on either end. Often times one of the parties end up changing their minds prior to the athletes junior year when they can actually sign their letter of intent. Again, it's great visibility for the athlete and certainly an accomplishment to be proud of.

Steve 'Mongo' McMichael passes at 67
I was done watching wrestling by the time he entered the ring, so I mostly remember him as a football player. One of the anchors of the great Bears D in the 80's. What a terrible disease ALS is and what it does to people is just awful.

Is academic performance a thing of the past in NIL era?
It's always been complicated. Really, none of the stuff mentioned here is new. Athletes have had some advantages over non student athletes. Whether its easier course loads, special treatment, and yes, there were many athletes getting paid/extra financial "help" even before NIL.

Cooper Flagg, could he return to Duke?
Yep. And if he were to come back to Duke and get injured, he might not even get the first big NBA contract. There's simply no good reason to return to Duke. Sure an NCAA title is nice, and he can absolutely make nice bank with an NIL deal. But neither is as good as being a high lottery pick in the NBA.

HS Football - Drills ... acceptable or not
Board Drills and Oklahoma in my mind are reasonable and have a place in High School football....as long as you are making sure you careful with who is matching up with who. Bad matchups are injuries waiting to happen.

Schools with Turf Fields
If I remember correctly, Lexington Catholic has a turf baseball field. Corbin has turf as well. There's quite a few others that have converted in the last year or two.

The Future of Football : Under Center or Shotgun
Short yardage really isn't all that different out of the gun. Even under center, the quarterback has to hand the ball off to the back who is at least 3-4 yards deep, which requires taking the ball from center, and footwork to get to the mesh point. The gun also allows a little more variety and forces the defense to defend the whole field and not just stack the middle. The only issue with the gun is that it takes the QB sneak off the table.

The Future of Football : Under Center or Shotgun
I think at the high school level, where overall quarterback play is so variable, the shotgun allows teams to be able to put an athlete at the position, giving them more options. It allows the QB more options to run designed plays for him, and it opens up the quick passing game. Plus it works for run heavy, or pass heavy schemes. I think there will always be a time and place for under the center formations, but with the way the game has gotten faster, under center stuff will become a smaller and smaller part of the offensive formations you see.

High School basketball changes
That's not quite correct. Seedingis usually based on some sort of criteria, starting with head to head matchups, and/or common opponents. Throw in thing like strength of schedule, or other common criteria, and seeding can be almost completely objective. Random draws, which are based on when your name gets pulled out of a hat are far more chaotic, and devalue a team's body of work throughout the regular season.

High School basketball changes
Without a doubt. Too many games (really every team sport but Football), seasons start about 2-3 weeks too early. Start football on August 1st, fall sports on November 1st, Spring sports on March 1st. Basketball and baseball should play 20-24 games not including post season. These are the easy fixes. Addressing the post season, especially the district/region set up should be looked at, as well as classing basketball and all other non classed sports.

Buying A Refurb MacBook
I bought a refurbed MacBook pro directly from Apple in 2021. I did add Apple Care, and have been using it daily since then without a single second of downtime. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a refurbed Apple product, and for all intents and purposes it's just like buying new. They are a little more expensive than some of the other places they may be available from, but it's worth paying a little extra for peace of mind. If I remember correctly, I saved about 10-12% vs buying new. The only issue you may encounter is availability, and being able to get the exact specs you're looking for as refurbed inventory can change daily.

Masters Question
I misread and was thinking just off the green. Either way it's going to be tough. I've played on two courses that have hosted majors.....Bethpage Black and Merion. When I played Merion, the greens were 12 on the stimpmeter which is way faster than you can imagine, especially when the greens are extremely contoured. Downhill putts are just silly difficult. While you do get used to it, an average golfer is going to struggle with any putt greater than 2 or 3 feet.
-
Masters Question
If you 3 putt every hole after chipping on the green, you'd shoot 72, which wouldn't be good enough to win. To have a chance at winning you'd have to get up and down 4 or 5 times, and not 4 putt at all. I think a scratch golfer could do this. I don't think you're average Joe would have a chance.

How do you deal with a key player missing practice because parents make them do odd jobs?
I don't think there's a difference between the two scenarios. Either way, this is a parental choice, and all you can do as a coach is make a recommendation and inform the parents of the potential consequences. Outside jobs are a sticky situation, and ultimately as a coach, inserting yourself in any family situation/decision is problematic at best. I would treat a job the same as any other outside commitment a player has. Whether it's band, church, or other school activities, I'm ok with them honoring their commitments. But they still have to earn their spots and playing time based on what they do on the practice and game field and if the time they miss affects their ability to get the job done, then playing time could suffer. They key is communicating this consistently, and not having such inflexibility or creating situations where you don't leave yourself wiggle room. In the end, if the player can manage a job and what is required of them to be a contributing teammate, outside activities that may sometimes interfere with practice are ok.

10th Region Tournament: Semi-Finals and Finals Edition
The good thing in Kentucky, is that the only games that matter are district games, and you can play up to 36 in a season. Even if your basketball guys aren't ready until early April, they might only miss 6-8 games, and likely less with the way weather is in March and the beginning of April. As far as roster choices, no you don't keep extra guys. For the most part, at least at the varsity level, tryouts are a formality. Tryouts really only occur at the freshman level, because your Varsity level is pretty much set. If you're missing a few guys, you pull up some JV guys who will likely be floating for much of the year anyway. That being said, I've felt that Kentucky needs to cut the number of games that Basketball and Baseball play, and that baseball shouldn't start until March 1st, with the first games in the last week of March, 1st week of April. Weather sucks in March for baseball.

Michael Mayer at Las Vegas
There's been talk in Philadelphia Eagles fandom that they are interested in Mayer to initially play alongside Goedert and then eventually, replace him. They have a history of having a pair of good tight ends on the roster, Celek-Ertz, Ertz-Goedert.

Why is Coach Sullivan being forced out of Cooper?
I would say yes, and that drama is not limited to just basketball.

Why is Coach Sullivan being forced out of Cooper?
Or you have 90 days to improve some random, difficult performance measure that you have very little chance in succeeding, at which point you'll be given the chance to resign and we will wish you well, while the whole world knows your other option was to get fired.
-
Why is Coach Sullivan being forced out of Cooper?
I can't speak for education, but CAP's, PIPs, Pivot Plans or whatever you want to call them, in the business world, are extremely hard to survive. And if you do, you never escape the fact that you had one attached to your name and are one misstep, mistake, or bad day from being forced to live through another one. The thing is, no matter how good you are, if someone doesn't like you or want you around, it's not that hard to come up with a reason to put someone on a "plan." Really, the only to survive one of these plans is for the person who put you on the plan to go away.
-
Why is Coach Sullivan being forced out of Cooper?
I hear you and can understand that sentiment. But when you're dealing with kids/young men and an entire community, that's not the right reason to stay.

Fasting
You can handle your fasting however you want. I don't think black coffee necessarily invalidates a fast as it is almost zero calorie and doesn't affect blood sugar. I don't drink it during my fasting period for two reasons....1) I don't really like black coffee, and 2)I've eliminated caffeine from my diet. Clinically, caffeine is a diuretic and with increased output, and limited intake, you could conceivably have dehydration issues if you drink too much of it without adding additional water intake.

Why is Coach Sullivan being forced out of Cooper?
This. Even if you do have a case, is it really worth it to go through that battle, and then come back to work in what will likely be an even worse environment where you'll need to be watching your back 24-7? Sure it sucks to have to leave a program you built into a success from the ground up and have to start all over again. But starting all over again has to be the better option than returning to a toxic environment.

Fasting
Really it's like anything else...it's all about developing a routine. Habits become hard to break, both good and bad. I started my fasting with a 12/12, then quickly went to 14/10. After a few months of that and seeing progress, I tried 16-8 for the heck of it, and found that's where most of the benefits that everyone talks about really kicked in. I've been able to maintain my weight even through two cruises this winter (13 total days at sea with unlimited food and drink) and cold weather that has prevented me from going outside. I really do believe though you have to pair fasting with healthy eating, specifically cutting processed sugars. I do also think you need to break the cycle every now and then. Cheating every now and then keeps you sane.
