“Sometimes football decisions are incredibly difficult, and this is one of those instances,” Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said in a statement. “Considering our current roster, we have made the tough decision to release Justin Tucker."

I know they are saying this was a "football decision", but I don't think this had anything to do with football.

He had a bad season last year and they drafted a kicker. Hopefully the allegations are false, but I’d say the team knows more about it then Jon  Q Public

I know they are saying this was a "football decision", but I don't think this had anything to do with football.

I think the fact that he had a bad year last year and is getting older, made this much easier and gave them the chance to use the term "football decision".  If he was 26 and still making every kick, it would have been much tougher to cut him or wait this out until it got resolved. The fact of the matter is based on what he did last year, there are literally a ton of guys who are much cheaper, younger and don't have a bunch of creepy sexual assault allegations hanging over their head that can be as good, if not better than he was last year. I think that in itself DOES make it a football/business decision.

If a kicker is drafted, the incumbent is gone.

Right.

If I remember right, they did keep Elliott on the practice squad and that's where the Eagles signed him from.

It was just announced on ESPN's Sports Center that the NFL has suspended Tucker for the first 10 weeks of the NFL season. They said he can serve the suspension as a free agent as he has been released by the Ravens.
