two bad teams

Redtruck, Go get your rig washed. You are not making sense. Most people from the 9th openly root for their brethren down state because of the perceived lack of respect (which is fading away of late). Believe me, I howled when Holmes got jobbed a bit vs. Madison Central on a few late calls last year, but let it go. I have no affiliation with Holmes, just a fan of the 9th teams. This year's draw is very beneficial to the 9th, but you still have to win the games in front of you. There will be upsets.

A Final word on Holmes. They don't go down easy. Booher is a fantastic coach. Holmes may have not had an organized cheering section like CCH but they definitely did come out and represent. Nice crowd. I thought (and said on here multiple times) from day one that this Holmes team could not just easily replace the three starters from last year. Engelmon, Palmer and Coston were nice players who WOULD hit that 3 pt. shot. (3 for 27) That said, just shows how good Booher is to put a big time scare and almost got back again.

CovCath can absolutely make it to Sunday at 2:00 (State Finals). To get there, they will have to beat Clay County, likely PRP (who, can be up and down, they beat Ballard but lost to Western, Lou. Holy Cross, and Fern Creek). If CCH gets past them they would likely play Knott County Central or Wayne Co. All winnable games. Then in finals against either Ballard or Scott Co. (iif seeding holds up) Now, Check back in two weeks and see that all of this will be completely way off. LOL.

PRP at full strength would potentially play CovCath in the 2nd round. Figuring on PRP and CCH both advancing to this game. Should be an excellent second round matchup.

CovCath will win the game by 10 and will be a slightly better representative for the 9th downstate. They are not the biggest of teams but have depth and length and will easily win the first round game downstate and beat PRP (or whomever) in the 2nd round. I respect Holmes current "Dynasty" (and it is a Dynasty) but this team is a little light. I can see CovCath playing for STATE on Sunday afternoon. The draw is that good. Yesterday was telling in that Bolden would work the top of the key and elbows, dribbling and finding gaps, making the Dixie defense stop the ball, in which Bolden would kick out for open threes/jumpers. Holmes did not hit too many of them. We have talked about this all year and last year Holmes had the shooters in Coston and Palmer to knock those down. Now, having said that, if they get those shots again tonight, they could get on a roll and beat CCH. I do think CCH has more team speed and length to defend the Holmes shooters and penetration. Neither team played their best yesterday and still gutted out a win.

With Ruthsatz being a teacher, does that allow his kids a free education at CCH? Also, does that trickle down to the feeder schools? I know that a few years ago that was the case, that if you taught at the HS level, your children's education was free at a feeder (or maybe any diocese) grade school. With a lot of kids, that can add up and be a nice benefit if in fact you plan on sending them to catholic schools.

Holmes 60-38. Highlands is just not talented enough to hang with this Holmes team when it matters. N.Ky (9th region wise) has three very good teams, one a cut below (Dixie) and the rest are also-rans. Sure there has been a close game here and there but not tonight.

No upsets this year in first round in the 9th, but some great semi-final games. Still see it going down like this: NCC vs. CCH Holmes vs. Dixie NCC beats Holmes and goes down state. THEN, NCC goes on to play Sunday afternoon for State vs. Ballard/Trin./Scott Co./Hopkinsville. (you pick that upper bracket). PS---I also think CCH can do the same thing. Maybe Holmes. The 9th region will be playing for the championship on Sunday.

Brossart wins the game and goes on to win the 10th. 'Stangs go down state.

Ballard, on paper, is a clear cut No. 1 in the state, but even the most ardent Bruin fan would have to have some concern over their recent results. They seem to win, but give up a ton of points in some games (of course, I see the blowouts, but I am talking about vs. decent competition). Any concern here for Ballard? Is this vs. the JV giving up big leads or what? Can a Bruin fan enlighten me or is this much ado about nothing?

This was my first year in attendance at the state finals. The CovCath Coaching staff wanted all the wrestlers in attendance for the finals to see what its like to be on the podium. CovCath's lone wrestler "Big Joe" Marino fought hard but went down Friday. Dave Johnson is thinking BIG at CCH but he does it all with such class. Really respecting all the wrestlers and staffs from NKY and around the state. Not just a technical coach or a "hard work" coach, he is a program builder. Really cool this thing got off the ground this year. Dave Johnson with his energy alone can WILL a team to the top. A few things about the venue. I really like the Alltech arena at the Kentucky Horse Park. Nice, open, big, etc. Perhaps they could have a live video screen as sometimes its hard to see the wrestlers in action. Still, they seem to support the event. Union County--I didn't know they grew 'em so "Bad" down there. Lord. They are tough. Big time cheering section. Found out a lot about the "Ervin" name. Powerhouse. Closer to home--Campbell County. Much respect. Sorry they couldn't quite get it done team-wise but....... as I live in the county but have no real affiliation with the school, was really impressed on how they go about there business. Nice job Camels. Happy to see representatives from Ryle, SK, Boone, CC, Dixie, Conner and Newport. Way to represent! Great event. enjoyed it.

hoops5, Of course people are entitled to their own opinion. I just made mine known and think I have the results to back it up. Every team cannot be good. Each year there are a few teams that disappoint based on personell and expectations. My opinion is nothing more than that. Not saying Ryle is not on the rise or CC can't turn it around. But not looking great of late for the Camels.

Mason County is average to Average "plus". We are not handing out Lifetime achievement awards here. Their best win is vs. LexCath. Yes, 21-5 can be average if there are not many good wins. They didn't do a whole lot vs. tougher competition (blown out by Collins, Holmes and losses to Brossart and a Ga. Team) To be Clear, NONE of those are ANYTHING to be ashamed of, but I am not seeing many good wins? MoCo and Brossart are the two best teams in the 10th and there is drop-off after that. Down year for Clark, Pendleton and IMO Mason. You got me off trail.....I am really commenting on Campbell County and not Mason. I do not think Campbell is a good team and the results have shown that. PS--Love the Brossart team..I am predicting them an upset winner in 10th. ( I am the guy that goes to the games after smoky bars...soccer fan...ringing a bell DT? LOL

Betsy Layne is a nice win. Had them mixed up with someone else. I'll give them 2 nice wins. Still see them going in the wrong direction......

CC best win is their first vs. Dixie. Dixie was not strong at the beginning of the year. Camels played CovCath tough but lost. Wins vs. Calvary, Newport, Betsey Layne, Ludlow, Silver GRove.... Got beat by 19 to Brossart (no slouch, but the score diff?) Lose to a average Mason County team and now three straight losses to average to ok teams? Schedule was not tough and they haven't really done anything? What am I missing? Not a good team.

Where is it written (other than here) that Campbell County is a "very good team"? Do they have more "Good wins" vs. "bad losses" Based on what they had coming in, I have to say this is a less than stellar year. I am surprised too, but this is not a "very good team"

Unless I am missing someone, Jackson County or Clay County would figure to be the representative from the 13th for the State tournament. BWould think the 9th Region Champ would have little trouble with them in the Sweet 16 opener.

Agreed. The draw is completely out of anyone's control once the Dist. are decided. Will be big drama again, as the draw is huge for one of the big 3 (NCC, CCH, or Holmes-- who is hanging on to that last big 3 spot). As a neutral fan, you want NCC and CCH opposite. Clearly two best teams. Holmes is dangerous, but no one else other than those 3 can win the region.

I cannot fathom how this is not the toughest schedule in the country. That's unreal.

Just an incredible schedule for NCC this year and they continue to impress...massive win on the road. NCC plays for State if they get out of the 9th....

Good win. Don't fall asleep on the Stangs in the 10th. They have enough nice to make game vs Moco down the road interesting.

Quick story on Cowens just after he retired. They had a Men's league up at NC that attracted some serious talent. College players, ex pro's, those trying to make the pro's and those that could just flat out play would attend. A group from UC came over and were throwing down dunk after dunk, hanging on the rim. Jelly Jones and Doc Holden were putting on a show but Doc was warned a few times to quit hanging or the glass was going to shatter (pre-breakaway days). Doc kept hanging and they couldn't do anything about it. Rather than kick him out, Dave Cowens says, its ok, takes off his sweats and enters the game. (was he on a roster? who knows). He proceeds to push Doc Holden all over the court. Ripping rebound after rebound (many below the rim, diving all over the floor)., posting up aggressively as possible, dunking. The place was silent. He was a mad man. It wasn't so much showing up as to show the Holden what its all about. Holden, a nice college player in his own right, was dominated, but got the message. He never hung on the rim the rest of the year. Cowens was seen talking to him after the game one on one, both in good spirits.

I agree. Although Dixie hasn't shown well against NCC or CCH they are better than teams 20-25 on this list.
