two bad teams

I think that is just a typo unless there has been some press release on this. I think the Region 5 vs 10 game will be played at 1:30 pm on Thursday

Are they really modifying the game times? I think that is just a typo and the games are set as usual. I believe the region 10 vs region 5 game will be played at 1:30 on Thursday and is incorrect (shows 6:30 on Thursday) in the current bracket on-line. I could be wrong and if so, I am surprised the times are not locked in now.

I am not trying to bury Beechwood as a team or their coaches and kids for trying. That was clearly stated in last post. However, isn't giving your opinion what this site is all about? I am merely reporting my opinion that we should "slow the roll" on touting them as a "good" team when I don't see a "good" win. (Sorry, I just don't count the Holmes win as good. Holmes is 10-10 and was ok to play a zone in that game down 4 late? Hmmmm? interesting). I digress. I just don't think BHS is a "good" team as some have suggested. Show me the wins? Just show me the wins? Maybe Ryle? Maybe Holmes? And yes, there are a lot of bad teams in the state this year. Sad, but true tale. The state is way down this year. But that will make for a great state tourney. Of the 9th region contenders THIS year, what team is better than last years team? CCH? NCC? Holmes? Cooper? Last year's edition was better on every team. Only Holy Cross is a better team than last year. Getting off on a rant here. My main point is that Beechwood has an opportunity to prove me and anyone else wrong with what's upcoming on their schedule. Let's see how they do. I wish them well.

As I mentioned they were would be second to CCH. Not ahead of them. I will stand by them being second. However, I noticed you skimmed over your prior comments of Beechwood, HHS, and HC Incoming class vs. NewCath in your retort. Now, those classes "no where near" NCC's class. Everyone knows the CCH pipeline is loaded. You apparently think the Beechwood, HHS, and HC "Machine" will produce a better talent than NCC, I don't. (we've heard it year after year). Yes, I have seen Mullikan vs. Blessed Sac, St. Agnes (Green), and several Cincinnati Schools. He is tough. He plays a lot of AAU. Kremer plays for NKY Elite. I am not dreaming of Jefferson. He took his entrance exam at NCC. We'll just have to see on that one.

This is a nice group of players but if Jackson Crawford of Bishop Brossart is not on the shortlist, then it's a flawed list. I judge on what a kid does for his High School team. As you may know, Brossart plays the defensive minded schemes with low scoring games and yet Jax Crawford seems to put up very good numbers nearly every game. Brossart currently sits atop the 10th Region for best record with wins over Campbell County, Holy Cross, and Paris to notch the All "A" trip to Frankfort. Let's pump the brakes on some of these players stats and ask what have they done for their team? Jackson Crawford has done an awful lot for Brossart. If he's not on your list, take another look. You won't be disappointed.

They are? Based on what? When they beat an "uninspired", .500 Holmes team who benefitted greatly from the loss, a lot of folks seemed to go crazy for this Beechwood team. Sorry, I don't see it. What are their nice wins? Holmes? Please. The schedule is super soft and I just don't see quality wins. They are 13-9 and have lost 4 of last 5. The schedule gets rough with CovCath, Conner, Holy Cross on deck. I give the players all the credit for winning any game believing in themselves after the Holmes win, but it doesn't mean I have to believe they are a good team. The good news is that they have tough teams in front of them so they can prove naysayers wrong. If they somehow make the regional and win a game I will be happy to eat crow.

The current Frosh are experiencing a tough year, which will lead to the next few years being light by NCC Varsity standards. However, the incoming Freshman class will be on par or a close second only to CovCath. They have more than Kremer coming in. Mullikan, Jefferson (Yes) will both go straight to JV. St. Therese has two nice players as well as others from St. Joe Cold Spring. Zieglar is a great ball handler who can shoot. That Freshman team will be stacked. I'll take this incoming class over Beechwood's, Highlands, or Holy Cross. Also, St. Joe Cold Spring will also provide at least 3 to 4 starters for Brossart Frosh next year. All this being said, I don't see NCC losing to Beechwood or Highlands any time soon on the Varsity level. They have enough to make up for a not so stellar class.

I am not sure where it originally came from, but it sure applies to the Bishop Brossart Mustangs. Brossart Football is the story of the year. (with honorable mention to SK's great year, Congrats to the 'Neers as well). I second the opinions about Brossart on this thread. Many on BGP thought Brossart Football was way out over it's ski's with the past few year's results but congratulations on those who stuck it out. It certainly takes more than one person to rejuvenate a program but an awful lot of credit for the Mustangs still having a program should go directly to Marc Cetrulo. Marc's son Frank just won player of the week last week. What a fitting tribute to the blood, sweat, meetings, phone calls, negotiations for fields time, re-negotiations that Marc was instrumental with to keep the program alive and allow for his son and others to play. Marc is the ultimate "can do" guy who will find a way to get it done. And the Mustang faithful and players are doing the most important thing in youth sports...having fun. Earlier this year after "rainout Friday" the fan base of BBHS were at Barleycorns where they were informed the game was rescheduled the next morning. Marc Cetrulo had organized a tailgate breakfast the next morning complete with eggs, bacon and of course, goetta. I used the famous Ole Miss Grove line about Brossart that night saying... "You guys might not win many games, but you'll never lose a tailgate party" I guess I was right about the party, but wrong about the W's. Great season 'Stangs...Keep it up.

Whoa...Easy GPR.....I am merely suggesting how the player plays reminds me of these type of players. Sorry, am I the first on here to ever do that? I don't think so. I am saying he is talented. Read my other posts in the past on how hard it is to even make it to D1. But if you are concerned with players being compared to pros then I assume you have the same issue with it constantly being done on the football and basketball forums? It's just a way to describe a player to a soccer audience. And I thought I'd use someone different than Messi or Ronaldo...for once. Chill. For the Record he is a talented kid who plays for the Top Kings team. I'll leave it at that.

This is the first time a parent has said something from the stands in the history of organized athletics. For the record, it was a grandma and she was saying something to the effect of "Wow, that was loud". Totally benign. Coach was fine in yelling at his player and so was grandma with her comment. Big Freakin deal. What is "Bush League" is the coach turning around and attempting a stare down? Talk about thin skin. Coaches are NOT supposed to react to anything from the fans.

On purpose. They are used too often. And I'm a Man City fan, so why not use some of the players I like...This is supposed to be fun right?

The young Breds christened the first game of their season with an emphatic win over the Colonels 3-0. NCC traveled to the new turf at CCH last night and pulled out what has to be considered a huge upset victory. The only people who expected the Breds to get the "W" were the players and coaching staff themselves. Nice job players and coaches believing in yourselves! To wit, this is an NCC team that: Was playing their first game of the year. Is comprised of nearly half of the team being 8th graders. Was playing or practicing on turf for the first time ever as a team (obviously the club players have played on the fast track before, but you get the picture) Lost their co-Captain within the first five minutes of the game. (this is bittersweet as Jared Gabbard is a nice player and is reportedly out for the year. We wish him a speedy recovery for next season). After some back and forth action the Thoroughbreds got on the board first as Stephen Kelly took a shot just inside the 18' and lofted it "top shelf" into the back of the net. A beautiful goal. The second goal came after Brady Randle (8th grader, St. Joe Cold Spring, took a through ball combination pass from Cameron Nieses and Colin Schuh (also St. Joe Cold Spring 8th graders) and powered into the box ahead of the defender, who tripped him in the box and was awarded a PK (no question from the CCH staff on the call) The Randle kid is a born scorer (think Sergio Aguero of Man City combined with a Luis Suarez of Barca). He's that kind of potential talent. William Louis (St. Thomas) slotted home the PK into the left corner for a 2-0 NCC lead. CovCath is deep and talented and showed the fighting spirit and had the ball at the 30' going in for what seemed and eternity, eventually getting a shots on goal and missing what appeared to be a point blank goal that just went wide. NewCath's back four was strong, led by Ben Glaser (think Man City world class defender Vincent Kompany) and the speedy Luke Grothaus and physical 8th grader Josh Martin (St. Thomas) who both continually ran down balls and cooly flipped them back into play or back to Keeper Grant Lonneman who had several saves and commanded the box to keep a clean sheet. The final score came in the waning minutes as NCC worked to get the ball into CCH third using several touches from Jacob Frisk (St. Thomas), Evan VanLierop and Wyatt Guthrie. NCC crowded the box, peppered it with shots on goal and finally netted one home as Ben Glaser ripped one high into the back of the net. The game ended shortly after that at 3-0. Both teams played hard and the game was physical at times, but good solid soccer and called the same way throughout. Classy coaching staffs in the handshake line from both sides as many kids know each other as CCH Frosh features at least 4 St. Joe Cold Spring players. There are also 6 freshman at CCH playing JV, so the future looks bright at CCH. The Colonels will rebound and make their run toward the region. NewCath will feel the pain of the Gabbard loss but will do what NewCath does and "Find a Way" Great job both teams on a wonderful night of soccer in Park Hills.

I Like your progressive thinking but the draw is the draw and while it helps to avoid the high powered teams at all costs, you still have to play the games. Look at how many years the bracket has fallen apart from what the experts (I've certainly been fooled) thought might happen. Louisville Central making the finals vs. Holmes is just one of many cases.

I don't think "Greek" is saying that. He is saying CCH has a high IQ team, he is not saying Campbell County doesn't. There are too many "gotcha" journalists out there. I see nothing malicious in his post.

The title of this thread is outlandish enough for the Guardian in London or the New York Daily News. It certainly has stirred debate. CovCath is sitting on a pipeline of talent. Greatest Dynasty Ever? , please. It is kind of embarrassing for a CCH fan. Most, if not all that I know are happy taking one game at a time and hoping for another run. PS--I am not so sure they are ranked #1 next year in the 9th. Yes, I am aware of the Frosh class but I believe the region as a whole will be down and NCC, Holmes, CCH or Cooper could win it. Losing Schuh, Theobald, and Romes are not so easily replaced. Schuh and Romes provided the original toughness brought by coach Ruthsatz and CVH is now carrying that out as well. The Heppler kid hasn't played a whole lot this year but certainly has the body. Next years starting lineups will be for another thread.... Years After that, it looks as if CCH could string several Regionals in a row.

You're wrong on this one. When a player of Bolden's caliber fouls out I saw more of a sense of relief (ergo, respect) from the CCH crowd, who were relieved to see him foul out. I know I was. Why not? Why let a great player kill you? This happens on EVERY level of basketball. I certainly remember a lot of claps by opposing teams when Bo Schuh fouled out of a key game a few times the past two years. Fine by me. That said, everyone I saw, including myself, gave him a polite clap for a great career. I saw no waving from adults anyway. I think you got caught up in the emotion. He was treated with respect as he exited.

I guess we are coming from a different point of view on this one. If I am CCH, they caught a nice break with Campbell County winning the 10th over Mason (Come on, anyone would agree with that, but I agree the Camels are playing well. And If anyone on here predicted Mason to lose, I give you much credit)... but the bottom half of the bracket is tougher. That's ok. They only remember the State Champion, not the strength of the bracket. This year the 9th or 10th gets a beatable Doss team whom NCC had down but eventually lost to. Doss is likely saying the same thing, so hence you have what we call the Sweet 16 where anything can happen. I see CCH beating Campbell, then beating Doss, and playing Taylor County on Saturday night. Lets just leave it there for now. Doss hasn't even won the 6th yet. Hopkinsville always comes in with plenty of promise and a ton of athletes but I need to see them win a few games. I don't see them beating Taylor, but these are just guesses. The bottom half has Ballard and KCC. Too tough teams I'd like to avoid until the finals. I am impressed with Taylor County's schedule. Moeller, Wilmington, and some DC powers and out of state powers. Impressed their staff had the wherewithal to get in those contests. Should be a great state tourney. Pretty open IMO with an edge to Ballard overall. I see Taylor County beating Hoptown and Owensboro to get to the potential CCH match up

I have also seen both teams play and like CCH in the matchup. Again, I harken back to a much tougher schedule for CCH. That said, there is concern on my part by letting the past three teams (Newport, St. H, and Holmes all stick around when the prior meeting the colonels won all by double digits). Could it be them adapting to the zone? Either way, I see a good game but Camels folding under immense pressure on the court.

Most posts on here think the Camels will be a challenge but believe the colonels will win. Only a few are predicting double digit win. They are blowing out bad teams. And If Dre Jackson got off to such a wonderful start last time, what happened ? As I stated, the camels are scary, but the pressure D will be too much for them
