Just Jim Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Northern Ky has 4 individual champs. Campbell County comes in 2nd overall. Branden Johnson of Dixie wins the Heavyweight (285). Pins his way thru the tournament. He's a junior. Dixie finishes 10th overall. Austin Meyers (junior) of Campbell Co. wins the 220 division. Was on an absolute role. Wins first 4 matches in 8 sec, 18 sec, 9 sec, and 33 sec. Wins the finals on a technical fall. Outstanding. Johnny Meiman (sophomore) of Ryle wins at 170. Wins finals in overtime. Ryle comes in 9th overall in the standings Sean Fausz (senior) wins at 138. 3 major decisions a technical fall and a pin in 48 sec. Congratulations to all.
Jim Schue Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Johnson's five pins took a grand total of two minutes, fifty-one seconds of mat time. I know very little about wrestling, but that's damned impressive.
colonel_red Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 On the way to the title Johnson defeated the only two "Undefeated" kids at 285 in state.
katbird Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Does Branden want to wrestle or play football in college? I am sure he will get an opportunity to do both if he wants..

Content1 Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Congrats to "freshman" Casey Cornett (SK) who was state runner-up in the 160 class. This young man has a bright wrestling future ahead of him. Well done NKY on a very good showing at state. :thumb:

Clyde Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 I don't remember names but I read an 8th grader beat a senior who will wrestle at OkState. That's pretty impressive.

Jim Schue Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 On the way to the title Johnson defeated the only two "Undefeated" kids at 285 in state. Do you not believe they were actually undefeated before they met up with Johnson?
colonel_red Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Do you not believe they were actually undefeated before they met up with Johnson? Should have bonded the text instead if quoting it. They were undefeated.
JBSmash Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 No. Dixie's first State Champ in wrestling. Not true: Chris Jones won state back in the mid 80's. Congrats to all - great showing by NKy
JBSmash Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Congrats to Johnny Meiman on the State Championship and all of the Raiders!! Way to represent Raider Nation.
