Completely agree, and Union with Ryle has been "the team" for several seasons. Highlands from Ft. Thomas is certainly on the rise in softball. Beechwood-2012 a good year. 2013-back to reality. So it does seem that there is an equivalency between money and success in girls softball in Northern Kentucky. NDA, Ryle and Highlands are always pretty solid in girls hoops too. If NDA can go on a good run here for the next few years in softball (and I see no reason why they will not-good coach, good players), then you can pencil them in the region every year.

I would say more money=more opportunity. Better private coaches, travel teams, equipment etc. Look I am a great fan of the last NDA hoops coach and hope the Panda girls win state in softball. Mercy won it all last year in softball and they are a Catholic school from Louisville. Owensboro Catholic is a powerhouse in softball. I am certainly not saying because you were born in Paducah to Catholic parents and attend Saint Whatever that you will be a star athlete, but to sacrifice as TOG's family did or to have lots of extra cash to send your child to a Catholic institution can certainly have its advantages. (Isn't that the point of the Catholic education anyway?) If there were not advantages, then nobody would send their kids to Catholic schools. The advantages can be personal, religious or athletic, but there are supposed advantages.

Ah true, but money is not a self imposed limitation. Some don't have it to go to Notre Dame for the "stated price" of an education there.

Think I already said how great Fogle is...he was injured often this year though and also DH'd quite a bit. That is a fact. Conner didn't make the Region tourney. As for the two Freshman-go back and look at the Beechwood threads, and Midland talk and see if they were not chatted about prominently. I stick by my statements 100%. These are popularity awards and lifetime achievement ceremonies. Pangallo is a very positive well known name in Northern Kentucky. Suchanek for BW threw 3 innings in the Region and was lifted. Stringer 2 innings 4ER and an loss. Also was 0 for 4 in the semifinals of the Region. Those are irrefutable facts. These are subjective awards. I watch a lot of baseball and know what these awards are. I bet the coaches hate making the nominations let alone voting for them. All of this is why I like watching the games better then the voting. Stars shine at the brightest moments.

As I have said a thousand times before, these things could be named at the beginning of the season rather than the end. I am a HUGE Cameron Fogle fan and no way is he player of the year. Sorry you could name many others that played more, because he was hurt, and had more productive seasons than him. That is not to slight Cameron, but it is a true fact. The players named are listed from a popularity basis and name recognition. No disrespect intended for any of the players here, but what we do know is Ryle was the best team in the 9th Region this year, followed by Dixie, Beechwood and St. Henry. That is what matters. Individual awards are for sports like tennis and golf where you play by yourself.

Some underrated players I have seen this year would include Grosser for Highlands-solid CF. Mickie Terry-SS-ND-does alot of things well on the ballfield. Laura Finke-C-ND-may be at the top of my list. Solid on defense, and on offense is asked to lead off, steal bases, and bunt. Could definitely play at the next level. Rice (?)-SS for Holmes. She can fly with the best of them, and just seems like she is having fun out there.

I know her well enough and she speaks her mind. Nothing wrong with that. I was rooting for Beechwood, and didn't see the behavior in question, but if true, they were acting like a tool. As for the game what can you say-great win by Dixie. Superb pitching by Niehaus and a walk off granny by Combs. It doesn't get any better than that. Feel for the Tigers as they were one out away from going to the finals, but as TOG says that is why baseball is the greatest game and it is. My heart is broken tonight, but I will get over that someday, and to the winner go the spoils, and the winners tonight were the Red Colonels of Dixie Heights.

No problem. It is weird and confusing and I can always understand why people don't like or understand the rule.

That is impressive in the hardest sport to win in consistently.

It is not. You can do it in baseball, but in softball the pitches must be thrown. Don't ask me why this is different for the two sports, but it is.

Congrats to Dixie and Coach Maxwell, and Daria, Combs with the Bomb, Elkus,and Niehaus. Good group of kids. Disappointed for Beechwood, but a great run for Coach Mullins and Company!
