IMO this game was exactly why some love fastpitch and some do not.

 

Lots of action. Lots of pressure on D to make plays. Not a lot of clean hits.

 

5 runs total - I think 4 of them scored on non-hit plays.

 

Both teams will be back in the hunt next season. Lots of good young talent.

 

Conner's catcher Snellbaker is a name to get familiar with.

NDA has 2nd and 3rd with less than 2 outs. Bunt. Throw the batter out at first. R3 comes home but the throw is wide and R2 scores as well. I don't recall how the 3rd run scored.

 

Conner scored on 2 wild pitches/passed balls.

A couple of key defensive plays by NDA today.

 

Haylee fielded the pitcher's position like a shortstop and made key outs.

SS Mickey Terry raced way out to LF in the 7th to get a ball that the LF dove for and missed and held the Conner batter to a double.

Conner had 1st and 2nd no outs. Batter hit a dribbler. 3rd picked it and hit SS Mickey Terry on the run for the force out at 3rd.

Non-softball highlight of the day was watching Panda scale the scaffolding to get some pictures from up above.

I agree with your sentiment. I'd want to play as many top teams as possible as many times as possible.

I should mention that Haylee runs better than I would have assumed. She was moving on the triple she had.

Bottom of 5 hurt the Cougars IMO.

 

Sims doubles and Straley HBP, I would have bet my house that the next batter was bunting to move the runners, but she hits into 5-6FC. Quite a few of us in the crowd were all "baffled" by this. Next batter (Thompson) with a sac-bunt, but now you have 2-outs, next batter with a comebacker to Smith in the circle. Not many times Conner gets 2 on and no outs and they don't get at least one run.

 

Bottom of the 6th for the Cougars looked like they were going to make some noise, but score their final run of the game. Maines "bloop" single to right, Himes double to center (nice play by A. Meagher), 2nd & 3rd no out. Snelbaker up with 2 doubles to her credit for the game thus far, pops out to SS, Clark? pops out to SS, Sims HBP bases loaded, WP/PB sorces one and the inning ends with a PO4.

 

Cougars had their chances. Like Clyde said, Snelbaker is a name to remember.
