Here is the coaches/schools with the most wins over the last three years (including this year): 1) Holmes / Dave Henley(83 wins)- Great talent, multiple regional championships, far run at state tournament. Lived up to their hype over the past 3 years. 2) Boone / Greg McQueary (59 wins)- Great talent, size, shooters. Made it to the regional championship last year. 3)Highlands / Schlarmann & Flynn (51 wins)- Very strong talent. Many college ball players (Simpson, McGraw, and more on current team). 4) Beechwood / Rick Shumate(50 wins)- Have had some good athletes in the past several years, totaling up lots of wins, esspecially against the Div. III schools. 5) Brossart / Mike Code (45 wins)- 2 All A championships, more than just a power house amongst "A" schools. One of the top programs every year in NKY. 6) Campbell / Scott Code (44 wins) -Impressive since they have not been ranked at any time in the top 5 of NKY teams during this stretch but they are almost in the top 5 in total wins. 6) New. Cath. / Grant Brennan (44 wins) - Keeps continuing their success each year, and the torch has been past down over the years. Keep up the good work coaches!

I predicted Dayton to win Division III, and I will stick with that. Dayton by 6.

I know this may sound foolish, considering that Holmes has not lost many games over the past two years, and when they do it is usually a very close game. However in this game I am predicting a big win for Christian Co. Wilson will be too much, and Christian will win fairly easy (10 points).:eek:

Not only may a team be a little tired, but a team and coach can only prep their team on one of their opponents. When you play back-to-back nights, typically coaches prepare them for the first game (unless the 2nd game is much more important-seeded game). Since this district doesn't seed, it is hard to say which is more important. This is a very good district and it should be fun to watch it play out.

It appears that Cov Cath had a bad shooting night, and still got the win. Always nice when you dont play your best and still get the victory.

I wasn't at the game, and I know you can't just look at the box score and quarter breakdown to get a real sense of how the game went. But it appears that Simon had only a bad 8 min stretch in the 2nd quarter, but played with them the rest of the game. Is this not true?

Had to get there early to make sure of a good seat, but teams have some nice and upcoming talent from what I saw. Of course it is JV ball..... so sometimes it can be sloopy, but I think some of these players should develop nicely over the next couple of years.

As I watched the game, it is very apparent that Highlands is a horriable matchup for Cov Cath. Highlands can match Cov Cath's physical strenght down low, and on the glass. This takes away 90% of what Cov Cath wants to do, and makes them much more limited. Congrats to Coach Flynn and the Bluebirds tonight.

Like I mention when I saw Campbell play in the Lloyd Invitational, they don't have the most talent, but they were the best coached team, played harder than everyone else, and fundamentaly sound. I really enjoyed watching teams like that play. It certainly look like it is paying off for them. I'm just sorry I missed the game tonight, to far of a drive, but I hope to see them again in the next several weeks. Congrats to Coach Code and the Camels.

Whos to say the ball was in play? Coaches can call it as a player is about to inbound a ball from the sideline or baseline. This is very similar to a football coach calling a T.O. before the ball is hiked. But if you start splitting hairs and saying coaches can call timeout on dead balls and not live balls, it just makes it more difficult on officials, and that is not good for the overall game.

There are many different factors on cancellations: 1) Can the officials get there, or can the assigning secretary for officials get replacements in time? 2) Is there another good fit to move the game to a different date for both teams? 3) Will the Director of Buses for a school allow a bus to go out on the roads? Often times they don't want to if schools are already off. 4) Not saying it's right - But Coaches will evaluate their team's health and may want to play a game on a different date hoping to get a player back from an injury. 5) Sometimes Athletic Directors will look at the potential gate for that night (low attendance) and want to move it to a day that will draw more money. There are many factors, and this decision is made by many people.

Congrats to Coach Faust and the Crusaders. Little closer score than I thought, but nice win in the battle of Erlanger.

How does this tournament decide who is the host school each year? Is it on a rotation basis?

Not sure if most teams could even score 100 in pre-game warmups.

Kevin Gilles was a nice player (outstanding shooter), but if anyone that is missing from Highlands, I would have to go with Gino Gudgulli. Seemed to me that Gino did more things than Kevin. I thought Gino was a good defender, rebounder, and a decent ball handler for a bigger kid. Kevin was more of a spot up shooter and somewhat limited in other areas. I remember that Gino hit a the big shot in the final seconds to send Highlands to Rupp in 2001. He seemed like a big time player in crunch time.

Why should a coach not be allowed to call a time out? A football coach can call a timeout from the sidelines A baseball coach can go out and talk to a pitcher when he is in a bad situation Why shouldn't a basketball coach be allowed to call a timeout? I like the rule and I'm glad it is in place.

I agree with your first statement.

Here are a few of mine that I would like to see changed: (Please keep the shot clock out of it - that is beating a dead horse!!!) 1) Free Throws: Once again, allow players to move on the release of the ball from the shooter. Get rid of waiting until the ball hits the rim. They have already cleaned up play by moving everyone up a spot and eliminating 1 or 2 players on the line. 2) Get rid of alternate possession rule. It penalizes the defense. I like the old fashion jump ball. 3) Referees: There is no 1/2 circle under the basket (like in the NBA). So a charge is a charge no matter where it is on the court. Stop implementing rules at other levels into high school basketball. 4) If a player is falling out of bounds, they should not be granted a timeout. I think that both feet need to be on the playing floor for the timeout to be granted. 5) Don't get me wrong, I love the district and regional tournaments......but would anyone like to see the top 64 teams based on the Cantrell and Lickinghouse ratings make it to the tournament (like NCAA)? This would help the schools that are in extremely tough districts and regions, plus there would be less pressure on the KHSAA when they have to realign districts and regions every couple years. This would be simuliar to how Ohio determins their football playoffs. I have mixed feeling about # 5, but what are everyone else’s thoughts?

No chance Highlands wins Division II -They have already lost twice to Newport and Brossart. There is no way that Brossart, NCC, Newport will all loose three games. Brossart and Newport would have the tie breaker over Highlands if it ended in a tie.

Hope Avery has a speedy recovery. He will make Holmes really good when he comes back. This will just improve and continue to add more size and athletic ability, but more than anything else he is another shooter that Holmes can use.
