Have heard that Grant County head coach Ron Kinmon has stepped down, in order to accept the school's recently-vacated transportation director's position. Apparently Wednesday's game was his last.

 

Assuming that assistant Joe Utter would take over for the rest of the year.

If it is true, I wish Coach Kinmon the best of luck and success as he heads in a different direction. He's been a class act to be around over the years.

Kinmon told the team last night after their victory over Louisville Southern. He accepted the Director of Operations Job for the school district. Coach Utter will assume the head coaching position for the rest of the year.

What exactly is transportation director? Does this have to do with bussing logistics?

Oh please would you just shut up. It was Ron Kinmons choice to take the job. He could of denied it just as easy as he took it. Do some research before your next post would you please.

This is disappointing for his kids, I could not imagine having to play for a new coach halfway through the season. Ron has done a good job at Grant, it is hard to coach where you grew up. It seems like there is always a segment of a local community that always remembers you as a snotty nosed little kid and can not appreciate you as an adult.

The only thing that might make it somewhat easier for the kids is that many, if not all of them, had Coach Utter at the JV over the past 2 or 3 years. So, they should be familiar with his personality. But, yes, still disappointing for the kids I'm sure to have to go through a change mid-season.

 

As to coaching where you grew up...AMEN! I think Coach Kinmon did an outstanding job considering the number of second-guessers sitting in the stands. I think some of the past administrations and some board members have not always been on his side either. It's always easy to sit and criticize, but not many step forward to offer to help.

He did a good job at grant. He'll miss coaching. I know he wanted to take the program back to Rupp, it takes a lot of talent and some luck. One year he had the talent and was a quarter away from going. I wish coach utter the best.

All I can say is I appreciate what he has done for my son. It is easy to sit high above and question all that goes on trust me I know. But my son has the up most respect and was sad after hearing the news. Ron made the best decision for his family and that came with him having to give up coaching. I thank Ron for what he has done for Mike and for the friendship we gained in the same profession. I can say this about Joe Utter, he will work very hard and is a good coach. The boys are ready to continue the run that started over the last week. With a great trip to play a good bit of talent in Arizona, the boys need to respond to Coach Utter and get the job done. I will say that I saw some of the best coaching the last two nights of Ron's career and he went out a winner, good luck in the new position and hopefully he can bring a few more things to the district with his sports back ground.

Sounds like someone is sour. Remember, the superintendent did not fire Coach Kinmon, he left for another position in the school system that required him to give up his whistle. I can already tell by your attitude you do not have the credentials to coach and lead a varsity basketball team. Your lack of respect for Coach Kinmon insults what he has done for the program and insults the players that played for him. To have the audacity to insult a highly respected man over a computer bitterns me and now everything you say I will take with a grain of salt.

Sorry to hear about Ron Kinmon getting out of coaching. Is Utter the interim coach for the rest of the season or will they open the job up after the season is over?

I hope Utter gets to keep the job gull time. But if it does open up, I would be surprised if it is well sought after.
