George Rogers Clark vs Owen County Predictions
Maxpreps ratings systems, as limited as it can be this early, has Owen at #36 and GRC at #37.

Inside the 8th Region (12-26-14)
Nice post Mike, I might swap Owen Co and SK, but other than that, looks pretty good.

Owen County 88 Eminence 63
No, Simon Kenton did not handle them "pretty easy" in a scrimmage. But its a good thing for steeltown44/ukfan#1's sake that SK gets their chance in a real game in about a month. And, if Owen is smoke and mirrors, what does that make Grant Co? You know, since they beat them? Please.

Final KHSAA Football Rankings - By MaxPreps
Dixie did against Trinity what everyone else would have done outside of their super district foes. I might swap them for Manual, might put them behind Highlands, but they were a top 5-6 team at the end of the year.

Augusta vs. Mason County Predictions
Hard to use the Bracken game as a viable comparable score (if such thing exists). Augusta's players know they can beat Mason, as they have done it before. Bracken was probably beat before that game started.

MaxPreps rankings out.....LOL
there isn't enough data for them to be even somewhat accurate until 3/4 the way through the season.

Owen County 55 Gallatin County 51
I am certain coach Jones had a good plan on how to deal with Carson.... Anyone who was expecting a blowout tonight doesn't know how this district operates. Almost every game is a grind. When blowouts do happen, they happen at times when least expected (I.e....in 2012, a struggling Owen going to Gallatin and winning something like 56-28)

Owen County 55 Gallatin County 51
Two calls cost Gallatin 6 points? One intersting subplot in this was that Beckham started the year at Owen and went back to Gallatin in November, if I recall.

Owen County 53 Grant County 51
Some notes from the game: -Great crowd, tournament type of atmosphere in Owenton. -Grant jumped out to a 9-0 lead with around 5:00 left in the first -Owen went on a 24-5 run over the next nine minutes of game action to take a 24-14 lead. Grant chipped and chipped away at the lead before regaining it early in the fourth, and led by three at 49-46 with about 3 minutes left. -Owen was the team with more trouble at the line....if they hit their season average, it doesn't come down to the last possession. I would guess they were around 50% or so on the night. Grant did miss a few critical FTs down the stretch, though. -Grant's bigger problem was being loose with the ball. Their guards are very good, but OC's first half run was keyed largely due to turnovers and Grant missing some close in shots. Two big turnovers late in the game were killer -Owen overcame foul trouble to their guards (options 2 and 3). They also had problems hitting perimeter shots. -Officiating was inconsistent at best. The officials let them play for stretches, then were calling it close for stretches. Teams had no idea how it was going to be called, and that's why you had a low scoring game..both teams are better offensive teams and neither could really get into a flow. -It always helps to have the best player on the floor. Williams took a little while to get going offensively, but he was the man in the second half. -These two teams are well coached and fairly evenly matched. -Could be meeting again two more times, possibly a regional semifinal type of game. Oldham may be the best team in the 8th at this point, but these two teams are going to have a say on who wins it.

Owen County 63 Carroll County 42
Started the game up 14-0. Big game Saturday night in Owenton against Grant Co.
-
Owen County 76 Trimble County 38
Per @REBELS_NATION twitter- F Carson Williams with 18 pts and 15 boards, and G Chad McDonald added 17. Owen led 47-19 at half and 65-23 after 3. Rebels are now 4-0, Raiders are now 3-1.

Trinity 47 Dixie Heights 14 (Class 6A State Championship)
Its a shame that Dixie leaving their seniors in for the last time together at the end of a 40-point blowout ruined the Trinity state title. Its kind of like a "running up the score" complaint in reverse?
-
Augusta 67 Lloyd 61
Lloyd is more perimeter oriented...that's one reason they don't shoot many FTs.

Trinity/Dixie Heights (Class 6A Championship) Updates
Trinity has more athletes than Dixie does. Its not scheduling, although that is part of the prep. Trinity is one of the rare teams that can schedule nationally, take their lumps, and can rebound for district play and post-season play and not be destroyed from a confidence standpoint because they have better athletes than pretty much anyone they play in-state.

Owen County 75 Buckhorn 68 (OT)
Final from Berea College. Rebels finish the opening week 3-0. Jr F Carson Williams with 21, jr PG Vince Toftness with 16, and jr SG Chad McDonald with 13 to lead the way. Three home games next week for OC, including a district game with Carroll County and an early season showdown game with Grant County on Saturday.

Owensboro/Highlands (Class 4A Championship) Updates
That backfired on Owensboro.

Trinity versus Dixie Heights: Who wins and Why?
Dixie is a very nice team, I've seen them three times and was impressed by them for different reasons all three games. They bounced back from a tough loss in big time fashion against Beechwood. They played horribly against a young Cincinnati Turpin team on the road and figured out a way to win it anyway. And, they absolutely dominated Simon Kenton (the regular season matchup..and they did it again in the post-season- a game I didnt see). They've had a great year. They're tough and physical, they play hard, and they are well coached. Moore, Zajac, and Johnson can all play for anyone in the state. That being said, this is, by far, the best team they'll play. We don't have any common opponents, but it appears they're basically playing a team the caliber of Cincinnati's Moeller or St X. I've seen them, too...and , IMO, those two would be a little too much for this Dixie team. I hope I am wrong, but I think Trinity wins something along the lines of 35-20.

Owen County 76 Lloyd 51
They played eight while the game was still in doubt. Two of them were sophomores who played in the JV game. Carson never comes out, and they rotate among 3/4 guys handling the ball/playing the point. They play a senior (off the bench), four juniors (they all start, including Carson) and three sophomores (one starter). Lloyd had some quickness that caused OC problems with their press, and the Juggs stayed in the game in the first half hitting 5 or 6 treys. But Owen made them play in the second half, nice job sharing the ball, getting easy shots and hitting the three ball when they got the chance. Lloyd got very little in the paint.
-
Owen County 76 Lloyd 51
Owen County will make some real noise in the 8th if they continue to get contributions from their supporting cast like they did tonight, especially hitting the treys in the second half. They were down early, rallied to lead 23-20 at the half and then caught fire in the third and early fourth to lead 68-41 with about four minutes left. Lloyd hit a bunch of threes themselves.

8th Region questions
Frankfort schools have been coming to the 8th region for about 40 years.

Ballard/Dixie Heights Updates
I would load 11 in the box. No one has been able to beat Dixie's O-line straight up when I've seen them, might as well bring in help.

Lexington Catholic/Highlands Updates
Isnt the Highlands PA man a student? It was the time I was at Highlands.

State Semi-Final: Dixie Heights vs Ballard
Dixie hasn't been in the state semi-finals before. The Boone game in 04 was in the regional final.
-
Dixie Heights 24 Simon Kenton 0
Moore can probably be a WR at the next level...he caught a TD on a throwback pass against Cincinnati Turpin in week 3. I know its just one play, but its something Dixie felt comfortable with calling. I think he would also be a good return man with his change in direction and very good vision.
