Looks like noone wants to touch this one.

Your head says Mason County will extract a pound of Augusta flesh in retribution for the last two district embarrasments suffered at the hands of the Pathers. However, that line of thinking hasn't held up during that referenced timeframe, as Jason Hinson seems to have the Royals number.

Gone is Brent Bach, who factored huge in those Mason County upsets, and while the Panthers are off to another incredible start despite the absence of their Bellarmine signee, I think that this one will go to the home team in memory of "The Murph."

Last year, the Royals dominated Augusta in the Murph, then turn around and lose in the District semis.

This year, Augusta is sans Brent Bach to pull any heroics. It's Royal Time! (Marty Wallingford reference for you old-schoolers)

Mason by a dozen

Auguata is playing good basketball so far this season, but Mason County from what i have seen is on another level. I pick Mason by 20 (and thats being reasonable) Somewhere around 85-65. Augusta has the big 3 but i think Mason has the bigger 3 in Henry, O'Mara, Williams. Henry on Maddox, O'Mara on Snapp and Pig on Crawford.

Augusta is good on defense but Mason is better. In the end Mason Counties press will drive the Panthers crazy all night. It could get ugly by the second half. Of course Ive been wrong before, but this time its going to be all Royals all night I do believe.

Augusta will keep it respectable. The questions when playing the Royals are:

A. Do you have a player or a scheme that can contain Henry?

2. Can you hold up in the face of the Royals' pressure?

D. Do you have more than one scoring option (e.g. Bracken County) not named Brent Bach?

Mason County 68

Augusta 55

I dont know how reliable it is but one could use the common opponent approach:

Mason @ Scott W 75-41

Bracken @ Mason W 73-38

Augusta @ Bracken W 63-60

Augusta vs Scott W 76-72 @ the Fieldhouse

While both teams won both games against common opponents Mason Co margin of victory was 34.5 over those 2 games while Augusta had a 3.5 point margin of victory against the same teams.

Dont know what that means if anything but those are the numbers for what their worth..

Agree that on paper it looks like a Royals rout; and maybe it will be. I learned a long time ago that going off common opponents' scores isn't always entirely accurate.:thumb:

Both teams should be extremely motivated for this one. Mason County will look to avenge another district disaster and Augusta looks to prove they don't need Brent Bach to defeat the Royals. This one screams Mason County on paper but the Fieldhouse floor is made of wood. It will take a total team effort for Augusta to pull this one out. I'm an Augusta guy and I started this thread so I gotta go with my guys.

I always like to see folks stand by their man.:thumb:

Got to go with Mason big. Augusta's big three can only do so much with heart. Maddox can shoot the 3; but, he has to have his feet set and the length of Mason will disrupt his view. Crawford is a blue collar warrior that can penetrate against slower, smaller players. Mason will challenge him. Snapp is all heart and must play underneath if Augusta is to have a chance. Unfortunately, his 3 point shooting will be needed, if Maddox is controlled.

If Augusta is close, it will be their heart and Hinson magic that gets the Panthers there. Mason by 25, with a huge rebounding edge!

Paper says Mason should win this, so I assume Mason will. But even with Brent Bach, paper has screamed they would dominate the last 3 years and

we see how those turned out. I'd say even if they do dominate this game in December, there will still be reason for the Royals to be nervous if they meet again in the district

tourney.

What Mason County wants to do and what they actually do has been the same for the last 3 years against the Panthers. Coach Hinson has the recipe even without Bach: Good big man(Snapp), shooter(Maddox), underrated point guard(Crawford), role players who can defend and shoot(Shrader,Tucker,Shoemaker). Hitting shots and keeping MC out of transition and in the half court will be key. Look for Sweeney some in this game for MC.

Sorry but no Bach=no chance for Augusta in this one. Royals roll 78-52.

What time is the game
