My preseason 8th favorite. Junior class is solid led by Williams

Oops it should have been 53 to 51. Hope a mod will correct this. Carson had 24 pts. not sure about other stats.

Actually, they are just as advertised. Big win tonight against Grant. As with most seasons they won't see most of the region's top teams until February, after the All A and District seeding games. I get to see them in person in Warsaw on Tuesday night.

I'd love to see Carson this season. Enjoy yourself!!!!

I was able to make it tonight. Carson is a very good player. Definitely the best in the 8th. That being said, I'll take Grant County still in the region. More balanced and had a horrible shooting night and lost by two and should have won had they hit FTs at the end.

After 2 8th region games that I've seen, their officiating is terrible. Very inconsistent. I thought the 9th was bad but the 8th is worse.

2 very good teams tonight.

18 rebounds for Williams to go along with the 24 points.

That's what I'm talking about!!!!!!

Some notes from the game:

-Great crowd, tournament type of atmosphere in Owenton.

-Grant jumped out to a 9-0 lead with around 5:00 left in the first

-Owen went on a 24-5 run over the next nine minutes of game action to take a 24-14 lead. Grant chipped and chipped away at the lead before regaining it early in the fourth, and led by three at 49-46 with about 3 minutes left.

-Owen was the team with more trouble at the line....if they hit their season average, it doesn't come down to the last possession. I would guess they were around 50% or so on the night. Grant did miss a few critical FTs down the stretch, though.

-Grant's bigger problem was being loose with the ball. Their guards are very good, but OC's first half run was keyed largely due to turnovers and Grant missing some close in shots. Two big turnovers late in the game were killer

-Owen overcame foul trouble to their guards (options 2 and 3). They also had problems hitting perimeter shots.

-Officiating was inconsistent at best. The officials let them play for stretches, then were calling it close for stretches. Teams had no idea how it was going to be called, and that's why you had a low scoring game..both teams are better offensive teams and neither could really get into a flow.

-It always helps to have the best player on the floor. Williams took a little while to get going offensively, but he was the man in the second half.

-These two teams are well coached and fairly evenly matched.

-Could be meeting again two more times, possibly a regional semifinal type of game. Oldham may be the best team in the 8th at this point, but these two teams are going to have a say on who wins it.

That will be Grants' down fall,,can't score from the outside,,I have seen SK,Gallatin,Grant,S Oldham,Collins.Shelby County and Owen,,Throw Gallatin County out and on a given night any of the other teams can beat the other one..

Definitely a game I wish I could have seen! I believe both of these two teams will have a say in who wins the 8th - and both are certainly in the running themselves! This was a game both needed, but I think it may have been a little more important for Owen. This win has to silence some of the nay-sayers who thought Owen County = Williams and not much else. Beating a quality Grant County team proves otherwise.

I really like both of these coaches and am wish both the Braves and Rebels the best of luck the rest of the way. I expect we'll be seeing both in New Castle.
