  1. Don't slam the ball, talk to the ref, and then continue to stare him down.....officials hate being shown up, and Anderson's #22 did just that.
  2. Owen Co is 5-3 against Sweet 16 caliber teams (that includes Morgan Co, who is a contender in the 16th), and North Laurel, who is right behind South Laiurel in the 13th) As has now been mentioned, Owen's best win was over Henry Clay back in mid December.
  3. I dont think anyone from Owen Co that I know would compare him to Larry Legend. That being said, he is a great high school player and was a great building block for Brannen to sign to accelerate the NKU rebuild. He'll do very well there.
  4. The SOS argument in this case doesn't really apply here. Owen has six or seven wins and lost three competitive games against Sweet 16 caliber teams. It's not like he loads up his stats on the dregs of the schedule and disappears against the top teams, either. Carson had 43 points yesterday against a North Laurel team that started 6-8, 6-6, 6-5, 6-5, and 6-2. They double and triple teamed him whether he had the ball on the block or had it in back court. Didn't matter, he scored whenever and however he wanted. He is the 100% focus of the defense every night out. He guarded Peyton Broughton for a lot of the game, and while Broughton scored 30 (mainly because he has unlimited range from three), Carson blocked Broughton's last shot when the game was on the line to send the game to OT. He may not be the highest rated "college prospect" in the state this year, but he is the best high school basketball player in the state of Kentucky.
  5. There was a dunk and one by Carson in the third quarter that is going to make the rounds that is just sick. Great game, Peyton Broughton was great, too.
  6. Rebels shake off All-A heartbreak. 21-3 on the year. At Collins next on Thursday
  7. I'll be interested in seeing how Owen Co responds tomorrow night and beyond after an emotional loss on Saturday night in the All-A. I only saw the Saturday game, but from what I heard, they really didn't have their A game in their first two games in Frankfort. Simon Kenton could be on upset watch tomorrow night. BTW, I believe the Simon Kenton game is on Owenton, and the Collins game is in Shelbyville. They are also playing in Lexington against North Laurel over the weekend.
  8. Who exactly are the "bad guys?". Their teenage players? Does anyone know about where they came from, circumstances, hardships, etc? I didn't really care who won today, but part of me laughs that Cordia winning brings out all this sanctimonious reaction. Nothing at all is said if they lose to NCC last night. High school basketball, or sports in general, isn't always about a morality play. Sometimes in life, the deck is stacked against you and you have to overcome it. If you are in business, the competition may get to the same point as you using different resources or different circumstances that you don't have the same access to. When it comes to the All-A situation, small independents (i.e. Murray/Danville), smaller rural county schools (Owen/Morgan) smaller parochial schools (NCC, Brossart), all of them have hurdles to overcome to get to get to this level. In this case, Cordia was a deserving winner, but this wasnt like a team of unbeatable future pro mercenaries. Several teams could have beaten Cordia on a given night in this tournament. Among the losing semifinalists, I still think NewCath probably wins a majority of games against them. Owen probably doesn't match up with them on the perimeter very well to win a majority, but the Rebels could beat them on a given night. Murray was good enough to beat the so called "bad guys", but they didnt play as well today as they did the three previous nights. Cordia scheduled within the framework of the KHSAA sanctions and the All-A classic allowed them to participate in their event. Agree with their decision or not, those are the people you should direct your Cordia issue toward. Congrats to the Lions.
  9. It wasn't slow until the last three minutes. Murray went into a four corners offense in the last 2 1/2 minutes with the score tied at 44. Owen didnt possess the ball in the last 2 1/2 minutes. As far as free throws attempted? Lets just say that it was officiated the way i would envision a rugby match would be. It was physical. Murray likes to drive the ball and has a Duke football signee in the paint. Owen has Carson. Both teams attempt around 20 free throws a game. But tonight, Murray attempted four and Owen attempted six.:idunno: Games arent low scoring exclusively because of pace, games are low scoring mainly because officials refuse to clean up the physical play.
  10. No use rehashing the game here a whole lot. Obviously, a tough loss for the Rebels. Good luck to Murray tomorrow and beyond. Made some clutch plays tonight on both ends of the court. A couple of times, it seemed Owen was on the verge of taking control, and the Tigers responded every time. Could see them in Rupp in March, although I am not sure what competition they face in the 1st. As for Owen Co...same thing applies regarding seeing them at Rupp in March. Get some more threes to fall than they had this week, they'll be fine. Murray just hit some crazy shots tonight, sometimes you just have to tip your cap and move on. BTW, Carson is about the join his NKU teammate-to-be Drew McDonald as a three time All-A All Tournament honoree. Anyone else been on the All-Tourney team three times?
  11. The years Mason County wins the 10th region, it's because they have had the best team, or at least playing best at that time, not because of it being at the Fieldhouse. The only reason it's an advantage for them is because many of the rest of the 10th region schools make it that way by psyching themselves out. But, as Harrison County, Augusta, Pendleton Co and GRC know, Mason Co can lose at the Fieldhouse in post-season tournament play, plus, the Royals can win it elsewhere as well, having won the 10th title while being hosted at NKU and Montgomery Co- all in the last 8 years.
  12. Love their new gym....would like to check it out. I practically lived in the old Igloo as a kid...all the home games in the mid to late 70s, into the early 80s before we moved. Played my grade school ball there. IT was nice but dumpy, it was big, but intimate (the bleachers went all the way to the top...top row seatholders didnt have much room before they hit their head on the gym ceiling.
  13. 1996 had as good of a collection of D-1 talent as a whole as any All-A I can remember UHA-Barnes, Victor, Swanagam, and Michael Forrest (MVP), LexCath had David Graves (Shawn Fields was injured and didnt plain LexCath's first round loss to Owen Co) Paintsville-the eventual '96 state champs, but got knocked out early in the state All-A by Harlan, had VanHoose and Tackett with a strong supporting cast. Owen County had Jason Sharp who could have played D-1 but went on to play baseball at EKU, he was the all time leading scorer at Owen despite missing his entire junior year due to a knee injury, a record that stood until very recently when a certain Carson Williams came along.
  14. Attendance could be pretty good if you have Simon Kenton and Mason Co join the 9th region champ.
  15. Plenty of action shots in the gym and of some festivities like Homecoming and whatever they called their winter festival they did in December...but nothing that I would consider a great shot of the gym...I'll dig a little more next time I am at my parents.
  16. Like someone said above, they'll need to bring it for four games. But, if they do, I like their chances of cutting the nets down. They'll have the best player on the floor in every game they play, its a matter of the perimeter guys hitting shots and them not turning the ball over. If they hit treys and take care of the ball, good luck to whoever plays them.
  17. A 15-0 run over about a four minute span late in the first and early in the second quarters turned a 9-6 game into a 24-6 Rebels lead, it was pretty much over at that point. Predictably, there was too much Carson Williams for W-V to handle, but the supporting cast was solid. Loved Michael Dunaway's game, he adds a different dimension, great court vision, great passer, another big body to deal with, just very savvy with a high basketball IQ. I liked this W-V team despite the result, they did show moments, ...they never gave up, can give some teams problems if they are hitting perimeter shots. Veteran team, decent size. Would expect to see them in New Castle in March.
  18. Holy Cross was up 54-28 with 4:09 left in the 4Q, per @rebels_Nation twitter.
  19. Owen-SK also has been at risk because the game is scheduled right after the All-A and Owen has been close to game limits. I hope they get it in this year. And, to the question about Dunaway not being listed as an Owen Co player, I believe most of those articles are written and sent in to TCP sometime during the summer.
  20. They werent playing music, they were just making noises with their instruments on a couple of 4th down plays. I wouldn't necessarily call it classless, more like "silly"
