Monroe was the better team, and deserved the win. Most of the night, the margin was between 11-14. -Monroe County outscored Owen 24-3 from behind the arc, and committed only four turnovers. Those told the tale. -A couple of times, Owen threatened to make it interesting, and Monroe would answer with a clutch three or a clutch defensive stop. -Dillon Geralds is a nice player. In addition to his offense, he had three blocks on the defensive end. I think four different guys hit threes for Monroe? -For Owen, Carson was Carson. Forsee was solid. Guards had an off shooting night, but Monroe had a lot to do with that. -Now, the tough part of the schedule is coming for Owen...it'll be interesting to see who they have to drop to get to 30 (I think they are scheduled to end with 32 right now). I definitely hope they keep SK, Collins, North, Anderson, and Oldham games, but they still have a district game with Eminence they have to play.

NCC is in a class of its own. The other three teams are very good small school squads, but NCC should win tomorrow by low to mid teens and Sunday by upper teens/low 20s. They're good enough to challenge for the Sweet 16 if they could figure out a way to beat CovCath.

Good win for Owen Co....not everything went their way (like the free throws, and struggling mightily against the zone in the middle of the game), and they still found a way to pull it out. 21-2. Wow. I hope Owen Co fans are enjoying this (and next) year to the fullest.

Coach Hinson told Mike Fields that everyone thought Augusta would come down to Frankfort and lose 80-20. C'mon. Enough with the ingenious "no one believes in us" nonsense. Its discrediting his own team. NO ONE thought that.

Owen is a very good team. Toftness is a nice player, and if he and McDonald can hit, they will be a tough out on March. Or this weekend. Best of luck to Augusta. I graduated from Owen, but grew up in Bracken Co, so this was a game that interested me to say the least..wish I could have worked it out to make it.

I'll predict that this game will have the loudest and best crowd/atmosphere of the day. Augusta is making their first trip and will be well supported, while Owen Co is just 25 miles up the road, and a large portion of Owen Co is employed by state government in Frankfort, and they travel well. Should be fun.

He's pretty good. Owen-Augusta will feature two teams who are a combined 17-0 in the 2015 calendar year (OC 10-0, AHS 7-0). That's pretty strong.

I think its all GA. I think the home teams sit behind the benches/scorers table.

Rebels go to 19-2 on the year with the win on the road, their second over Grant on the year. Augusta up next in the All-A Classic in Frankfort on Thursday.

The most unique part of the old Bracken Co gym to me was that if you were sitting in the top row, your head was inches from the ceiling. You were literally in the rafters and the place could get loud, especially if you were there during a district tournament game. I'll have to see if I can find some pictures of it in better days, at least ones where they aren't demolishing it.

Quick turnaround ahead, they have Grant County in Dry Ridge on Monday in a big rivalry matchup and they open up All A action on Thursday against Augusta.

How deep is Augusta? Do they play high pressure D? Man or zone? Who do they play between now and then? Owen has 4 games scheduled between now and then, including road games at Woodford Co and Grant Co. Owen actually dodged the Gallatin Co bullet twice this year, both times in Warsaw coming down to a missed three by the Wildcats..sandwiched around that blowout that Mustang mentioned above. And, if I am not mistaken, Gallatin isn't a big team...maybe a 6-5 kid (McCubbin?). Could those games contain the blueprint for an Augusta win? They seem to be pretty good in late game situations.

Rating systems are based on data from results. As the season goes further along and more data is entered as more results come in, then you'll get a more accurate measurement. That being said, Augusta's season wont be defined on what their Cantrall, Litkenhous, MexPreps, or True Rank number is.

They are capable of winning two or three games in Frankfort. They could also lose Thursday night, Augusta is not going to be intimidated by the moment. I mean, they've knocked out Mason County out of the post-season in consecutive years. And, I disagree with the other poster that they dont have "much else." Their two guards are both double digit scorers average wise, and another starter who is around 8ppg a game. If those guards hit treys, they can play with almost anyone. It is true that they dont have a whole lot of size outside of Carson, their second leading rebounder is around 3-4 a game.

Good post. Owen didnt really take control until about the 4-5 minute range of the 4th quarter. The big three I mentioned above by McDonald was the back-breaker. Prior to that, W-V couldnt over the hump, thanks in large part to Carson coming up with big plays when W-V had gotten the margin to a single possession. Brannen has gotten W-V in good shape in relatively short order. Kinmon was very good tonight, a really nice player. They have the pieces to be really good next year, and could cause problems in the district this year. Good size, well-coached, and good guards. Future is bright in Walton.

Augusta vs Owen County at 6:30pm on Thursday. I would say the towns of Augusta and Owenton will be pretty much deserted by late Thursday afternoon.

Not for the Gallatin County girls game, I won't. Good luck to them, though. Hope they represent the 8th region well. Owen County's boys...maybe. We'll see.

He does just fine against players his size and taller. Come to Frankfort next week to see for yourself, since your team didn't make it there. I am sure that they'll play someone with 6-5 or 6-6 players. Walton Verona had a nice young player who looked to be about 6-7 or so (Brook?), and he did fine against him.

Carson Williams with 21 and 14, and he became Owen County's all-time leading scorer when he scored his last two points of the night. Chad McDonald added 14, including a huge trey that put the Rebels up 49-38 with about four minutes left that seemed to knock the wind out of the sails of the Bearcats. Walton Verona has a nice team, and will be a tough out for whoever plays them in the 32nd district tourney. I am assuming they'll be the 2 or 3 seed and play Grant or SK?

Tough to avoid 3-4 meetings. First off, Owen-Gallatin-Carroll are all going to play home and away every year. Second, they are all in the All-A and they all have contended so they are likely to meet at some point.

Decent chance Owen-Gallatin could possibly meet in a district semi-final, as Owen is pretty much locked in as the #1 seed and Gallatin is fighting with the other three district teams for seeds #2-5. Looks like everyone is still in play to be the #2 seed, with Henry currently holding the inside track. I dont know how wary they would be of playing them again, but I am sure Owen is definitely tired of playing Gallatin in Warsaw.

Zero chance that the game tonight was going to be a blowout, never mind the records or the talent level of the teams. They just know each other so well, Gallatin was never going to relent no matter how slow of a start they got off to (heard that it started like 7-0 Owen?), especially playing at home.

70% FG % is crazy good, whether or not shots are from 2 feet or 20 feet, because you have people hanging all over you and if you are that close to the basket, there is more traffic in there. I would say Carson Williams nor Dorian Henry take many uncontested shots.
