It was a good win because Dixie won despite not playing well. They committed three turnovers, had three or so red zone chances than got them nothing (thanks to TOs and penalties). Big plays by Moore, Caple, and a touchdown saving interception by Schulte in the second half saved the day. Turpin is a young and talented team. Lots of sophomores and juniors on that squad are going to be a load to deal with later this year and in the next two years in the ECC.

I certainly understand that thought in your first sentence. The bottom line is that Dixie will most likely end #2 or 3 in the district again, win a playoff game or two, and SK will have to beat them a second time again. It's a good, not great, 6-A team that had a bad Saturday morning a week ago.

I havent seen Frankin Co, CovCath, or NewCath play, so I am not going to predict what games the Tigers can win, but I pretty much agree with the premise of this. Its a good team. There's some good talent. Games like (and Mt Healthy, FC, CCH) this expose your weaknesses, fix/adjust them, and allow you to grow and learn. They could just play a A and AA schedule and rock on to an 9-1 record or so, and when they get thumped by Frankfort or Mayfield or someone in the 3/4th round of the playoffs, everyone is going to ask why did they underachieve. They're being tested now. And, the point about Dixie's defense giving up 21 points despite 9 starters coming back. That says more about the potential of Beechwood's offense than it did Dixie's defense, or whether they have too many two-way players, etc. They only gained 84 yards on 30 carries. Fieger, Studer, Stringer, Stokes, et al are good enough playmakers to keep drives alive and score TDs despite being outmanned physically.

I love the overreaction on Dixie over the CovCath game. Dixie was bigger, stronger, faster, and more physical. They outgained Beechwood 475-228. There were no turnovers, no special teams TDs....no crazy plays or quick changes that affected the score. They averaged 7 yards a carry to Beechwood's 2.8. To everyone who says "Beechwood didnt show up tonight"...well, it wouldnt have mattered if they did. If they played this game 10 times, Dixie would win all 10. And, I am still of the opinion that Beechwood has a nice Class A team whose season starts in earnest on November 21st, and they will have a chance to win a state title. Not the favorite, but a chance. So, dont overreact to this one (or, Franklin Co, or CovCath, or maybe even NewCath) like everyone did to Dixie over the CCH game. They're still a threat to go a long way in November/December.

I believe Henry County's gym opened in 1962. It's hosted EVERY 8th regional tournament since the '63 tournament.

Oldham would be the only team I would put for sure in this top 10 from the 8th. Shelby, Collins, Owen, Grant, SK, South Oldham, and Anderson will also be in the mix, as this region has been pretty balanced most years..

Everyone knows about Carson, how will the rest of the Class of '16, and the next class develop? They lost three starters from last year. They were upset in the 8th regional all A title game last year, but they've won three straight district titles, and have taken the eventual regional champs to the wire in two of the last three regional tournaments.

Fair enough. But, both teams have some pretty good young talent returning, is it expected that BC will be more on even footing next year?

I have some background at Bracken, knew Chad (and his brother, Rodney) as a kid, so this situation interests me. Saw in the other thread that one reason for the coach's "resignation" is that while they made regional in three of his years there, they weren't competitive in those games. My question to that is...when exactly has Bracken County performed well in the regional? 1955? 1944? They never really have in my lifetime. I think they've won two regional tournament games since 1979? What are the expectations there? Why has Augusta left them in the dust despite having a third of the student body?

How was the SO crowd? Their student section had about 18 kids for the Thursday game vs Owen. This was a superb tournament. With the exception of the Oldham-Henry game, every game hung in the balance in the last minute. And, that was a pretty good game.

The Rupp Sweet 16 neutral fan tends to favor the underdog. Teams from the 6th, 7th, and 11th regions, and, to an extent, the 9th region rep, are rarely underdogs.

As someone who has been to several regional tournaments in the 8th and 10th (I have ties to Owen Co in the 8th and Bracken Co in the 10th), I slightly prefer the Fieldhouse, but "the Roy" at Henry Co. is pretty good, too. Depending on where you are in NKY, both are surprisingly accessible, Mason Co HS can be seen from the AA, while Henry Co HS is probably 7-8 miles off of I-71 on US 421. Good roads all the way. I think South Oldham-Simon Kenton is pretty much a toss up, not sure if Campbell and Montgomery is. I dont think you can go wrong with either.

SK has more size, but will have to close out on the three point shooters.

I saw both of them Thursday. Based on the "eye test", I'll give Collins the slight edge in this one as long as they show up to play.

I just got back to NKY from New Castle Drove an hour plus just for this game and it was worth every mile and penny. Carson is a hoss, and his teammates had a pretty good game as well. A couple of shaky stretches of ball handling and South Oldham's ability to make them pay was the difference. South Oldham had to have hit between 15 and 20 threes and needed almost all of them to pull it out. They were fun to watch in their own right. Impressive game on both sides of the court.

Its a sign of competitive districts. All four of these districts had at least two legitimate district contenders. Of the four districts, three of the district champs were 2-seeds. Owen County was the only top seed to win theirs, and they needed a last second put back. Region is a little down, and the 8th region draw at the state tournament is tough, but Henry County will be entertaining as it always is.

Didnt something like that also happen in the All-A 8th regional Final a few years back? Different coaching staff at Henry then (I think it was Holland)
