  1. Very good point. The big "IF" is playing team ball. I don't foresee this team falling of the wagon, but if they do there are a couple of teams that have individuals as good or better than anyone Corbin has. Most notably, St. John (SL) and Miller (KC). I hope they take advantage of it. I don't want to sound like a bitter old man, but when I was in high school I felt like 3 of my 4 years we had solid chances of winning the region and didn't capitalize. It still kinda bugs me that we never played in Rupp. It doesn't keep me up at night, but you only get a handful of opportunities to do truly great things.
  2. I don't think for a second that SL is afraid to play Corbin. They have owned the Hounds for the better part of this century. That's exactly why it was so frustrating when the game was not played as scheduled. Furthermore, I think we can all agree that if the shoe was on the other foot the SL faithful would feel the same way. Can you imagine the outpouring if Corbin had cancelled a game that could have been played during the reign of the "Big 3." Finally, please know that I'm not a fanatical fan of anything except the game of basketball. I love my team, but I love the sport more. All in all, isn't this why there is a place like BGP? I love the opportunity to share an opinion and get a reaction. Its great to read comments from experts and knuckleheads all in the same place. I'm having a blast and I hope you are too. And while I realize we can't reveal our identities I hope that most of you know I will be quick to congratulate a winner - no matter who it is. p.s. Les, I may be searching a little but as you well know one should never let the facts get in the way of a great story. lol
  3. Of course you haven't heard any complaining. Would you expect too? I'm a Corbin fan, but beyond that, I'm a fan of the game of basketball and if you can honestly say that if SL was riding a winning streak vs having the difficult games that they did over the weekend and the game still would have been postponed due to "weather" then you are seeing something that I don't. Actions speak louder than words.
  4. I understand the reason as well. I am just disappointed that a program with such a high level of respect in this area and across the state would not choose to take the high road. They agreed to the schedule. If they didn't want to play such a tough schedule they have no one else to blame but themselves.
  5. It sounds like we are on the same page - it was definately in SL's best interest to play the game later in the week. In your earlier posts, the implication was that mother nature was the main reason for the change and not strategy. One thing I think I need to make clear is there is absolutely no way that Corbin would have cancelled the game if road conditions were passable - as they were last night. You can take that to the bank!!!! Whether they are the butt kickers or the butt kickees they would've played the game.
  6. Deleting quote, Rule #14 Dogman...You're right, the game will be played when its played. However, you along with everyone else knows that the game should have and could have been played last night. As I have said before, SL's program is top-notch and they deserve a lot of respect. Unfortunately, they made a bad decision not to play the game last night. They were looking for a reason to cancel the game as early as Sunday. You can quote me on that. Furthermore, how can you explain Bell and Whitley getting their game in? I just don't get it. SL can beat any given team on any given night - including Corbin. People would show up to a game between the Redhounds and the Cardinals in a blizzard much less a rain storm. My question remains. What would SL think if it had been Corbin who cancelled?
  7. Game will be tomorrow night (Thurs. Jan 29) @ 6:30 pm. I am very disappointed with SL's decision not to play last night. This makes a very difficult Thurs. and Fri. for Corbin while SL has Fri. off and then plays Saturday.
  8. The game being played or not will come down to whether the teams feel like the fans will still come out in big numbers. This gate is way too big for the home school to miss out on. There's no doubt that Wright & Pietrowski would play in the middle of a blizzard, but they also have to think about whether or not the fans will risk icy roads (should there even be a storm) to get there.
  9. Besides the final score being a toss-up...If mother nature has her way the game even being played may be a toss-up!!!
  10. I think we can all agree that no remembers polls just trips to Rupp! I played on a team that was ranked #1 for a good part of the year only to lose in the region. I have seen two other teams that weren't nearly as good as we were be inducted into my schools hall of fame, but they won the region. Unfortunately for some and fortunately for others, basketball often comes down to one game. That's why we love it!!! Polls are conversations - that's it.
  11. You might want to check your football classifications...Green Co. (2A), P'Burg (2A), Caldwell Co. (2A), Heath (2A), & Murray (2A). http://scoreboard.12dt.com/scoreboard/khsaa/kyfb08/tournament_86002
  12. Most of the time I consider this game a coin toss. This one's no different.
  13. Corbin was up about 10 or so at the half. Jumped on Whitley early in the 3rd and never looked back.
  14. How did this thread turn into a walk down memory lane for former Green Dragons, Trojans, Redskins, and Wildcats? Please refer to the original post.
  15. That's a fair statement. There's no doubt that the 13th isn't a top 2 or 3 region, but I think the team that represents the 13th in the Sweet 16 may shock some people.
  16. The 13th region may be better than many of the pundits think. Corbin is riding a nice win streak and South Laurel & Clay Co. beat Madison Central on consecutive nights. Thoughts?
  17. I actually agree with you. Corbin didn't play their best game, but they won. I think that's also a sign of really good team - to win when you don't play your best. Either way, I'll take a 29 point win against anyone following a tough game on the road.
  18. Corbin played poorly in the first half, but played very well in the second.
  19. You may not be great, but neither is Bell Co. They are very physical, and they are very physical...Did I say they were physical, but that's about it.
  20. Not sure what you mean. There hasn't been a lot of change in officials for a number of years.
  21. This is a tough one. Roscoe Denney would be a great choice, but he doesn't want to be a head coach anymore. Dinky Phipps is another nice choice. He does more with less than anyone else in the state, but he is a Barbourville Tiger through and through. Mike Jones is perhaps one of the best coaches in the state. People remember the Harlan teams he had in the mid-90s. I don't think a lot of people realize that not only were they talented, but they just didn't make a lot of mistakes. A great sign of strong leadership. However, I am a little biased on my choice. I played for Billy Hicks. He is hands down the best coach I have ever known in terms of developing players. Also, a little known fact is that he uses no profanity and calls every player by their first name - not just "Jones get in there" or "Smith play some defense." May not sound like much, but as a teenager it was great to have someone in an authoritative position treat me and the rest of the team with dignity and respect.
  22. The only reason Coach Keith isn't mentioned is because it has to be a current coach. If not, he would be at the top of a lot of lists.
  23. I agree with you. If the administration at WCHS is smart they will let Coach Baker do his job and give him the adequate amount of time. As an outsider looking in, it seems that every couple of years Whitley changes coaches for a variety of reasons. The Colonels have some talent, but in order to be competitive every year - which they can - they need some stability at the top which Coach Baker provides.
  24. Who was the little guy for Jackson Co.? He looked like he was very young. I know he won the hearts of the people around me. Jackson had no chance, but showed tremendous courage and class by never laying down. Good win for the Hounds and hats off to the Generals for playing basketball and not paying attention to the score.
  25. Corbin did have key player who wasn't quite ready for basketball when they played KCC. However, they lost the game because of poor execution and flat play. As for the Scott game - Corbin played bad, Scott did not. Thus, the Hounds lost. I think it would be a stretch to say that Aaron Manns getting a late start due to a successful football season had anything to do with Corbin's two loses.
