  1. I can see everyone's point of view from both sides. Corbin has a deeper team and South has the experience of winning the really "big" game. I guess the only thing that's bothering me is the lack of respect for North Laurel. Those kids played a tough, hard-nosed game. If I remember correctly I think SL had a tough time with them this year on at least one occasion. So I don' think that Corbin played extraordinarily bad, I just think that Coach Conway's team left it all on the floor. No one would have blown them out last night. I think that you can throw SL's relatively easy game and Corbin's battle last night out the window. This is one is for a trip to Rupp!!! The adrenaline will be flowing and the teams will be at their best. I just hope and pray that the suspect officiating that has reigned over this tournament won't come into play in a game with such high stakes. Hats off to both teams for great seasons. Whoever the winner may be will represent the 13th very well in Lexington.
  2. I have only seen M'boro a couple of times. I watched them get slaughtered by Corbin earlier in the season and then totally dominate B'Ville in the opening game of the 13th region. With this in mind, I think they appear to be a team on the rise which could be partially attributed to coaching. One thing that isn't in question is the talent level. If they can force SL to play an up-and-down the court game they could pull an upset. If the game stays in the 40s or 50s SL will be in another 13th regional final.
  3. South will beat Mboro. They just do too good of a job at forcing their opponents to play to their tempo. I'll take Corbin over North. I think the lackluster 1st half vs HCC provided a reality check for the Hounds coupled with the fact that I don't see North pulling off too upsets in a row.
  4. Les, I agree. KC is better than people give them credit for. I think they can make some noise if the ball bounces their way a time or two.
  5. I believe that the only way to measure who had the best team in any given year is by what they do at tournament time. I think Corbin has had its fair share of good teams, but only great teams make it to the Sweet 16. Hard to say as a Redhound fan, but as a basketball fan its the only objective view imo.
  6. I would be glad to see Brad Sizemore get a chance. Admittedly, I think him leaving the SL program would be a loss to the Cards which may be good for the rest of the teams in the 13th...LOL. Seriously, I would love to see a young coach who has paid his dues get the chance to be a head coach. Wright's not going anywhere so Sizemore may be the next best thing for WV.
  7. I suppose I should you explain the basis for my previous comment. 1. St. John's had a couple really bad fouls called on him. I know he's big, but if he establishes and holds his position with his hands straight up he should not be called for a foul if the offensive player iniates contact. 2. I saw an obvious goal tend on a break away by Clay Co. 3. One ref in particular was poor. He made a foul call on a what appeared to be a clean block for Clay. He was out of position and the other refs had better views of the play. 4. The same official confronted Coach Spurlock in a very unprofessional manner. He looked like he lost his temper which is something that officials would not tolerate so why is it ok for him to lose his cool? 5. The score keeper blew the horn when he noticed a Clay Co player was bleeding. I understand he may have been trying to do the right thing, but only the refs can stop play. 6. Score keeper also allowed time to run off the clock on two different occasions. 7. Clay Co. made a three pointer that clearly hit the guide wire. It souldn't have counted. I could go on. I realize that calling a game is not easy, but at this time of year missing obvious calls or just flat out making bad calls is unacceptable. I hope it gets better as the tournament progresses.
  8. The game was definately fun to watch. However, I think the officiating was suspect at times. Let me clarify by saying that I don't think anyone was cheating. I just saw some things that I didn't like.
  9. I don't believe they were ever in the same region.
  10. I'm going with the Hounds. However, I've been involved in too many games against Mike Jones to say it will be easy. Look for the Bears to try to manage the game, eliminate turnovers, and minimize scoring opportunities for the Hounds. In all three of the games that Corbin has lost they have scored less than 65 pts. This is definately the magic number.
  11. This one is the toughest pick of them all in my opinion. I think M'Boro has better talent, but Dinky is one of the best tournament coaches in the region. I gonna go with the Jackets, but I wouldn't be suprised if the Tigers pull this one off.
  12. I gotta go with KC. I think they only disadvantage they have is that the played the Jags only 2 weeks ago. With that being said, it would still take a minor miracle for NL to come away with a win.
  13. Very hard to pick against the Cards this time of year...Even for a Redhound.
  14. To even imply that there was a conspiracy to prevent one team from losing is nonsense. The 3 gentleman who called the game made some good calls, made some bad calls, and missed some calls - but no one got cheated!!!
  15. You're exactly right. If Whitley Co. could have thrown one in the ocean we may have seen them in the finals on Friday. However, I would be remise not to give SL credit for doing what they had to do to win the game. Exciting matchup on Friday.
  16. Not 100% on the Cats being a member of the SEKC - I'll get back to you after I get confirmation. If you knew that was a high level of probablility that you could meet a regional opponent in the tournament for a third time would you want to play? Its hard enough to be the Tigers or anyone else in the region for that matter twice much less three times. It does make sense in terms of the number of games needed, but not in making the best possible situation for a successful post-season run.
  17. LC is a member of the SEKC. Corbin and Clay don't want to play more than once a year. It doesn't make sense to play a regional oppnent more than one time unless you meet in a tournament or are in the same district.
  18. Travis is what high school athletics is all about!!! We should all take a lesson from someone who is the epitome of what a high school athlete should be regardless of whether he's played in 1 game or 1000 games. Hats off to an example to us all.
  19. Conference only requires that they play once a year - so that's all you'll see. LC at Corbin next year.
  20. There is absolutely no reason that Lynn Camp and Corbin shouldn't play. Especially given the fact that the Wildacts have improved over the past several years. Granted the Hounds will win the majority of the match-ups but you simply can't simulate the environment produced by the Wildcat faithful. Anyone who says that Corbin gets nothing from playing LC is crazy. First of all its a conference game. The SEKC still exists which explains why Harlan remains on the schedule even though they haven't been on par with the Hounds for a number of years. Also, anyone who watched the year 13th Region last year know that he Wildcats can give even perrenial favorites fits. As far as playing a bad team Friday night...FCI Academy was a combined scheduling with Clay Co. Both teams needed another game and the options were limited at best. There were definately some knuckleheads present Saturday night. Unfortunately, they are present at every game. I wish there was a legal way to escort these so-called "fans" from every gym in the nation, but as long as they don't threaten bodily harm we are forced to deal with them. Democracy is a double-edged sword. Finally, I think you have to give both teams and coaches a lot of credit. After all, I don't recall a lot of other top teams in the region who were willing to go to the Camp and play.

  22. Corbin @ Pineville cancelled (Friday Feb. 6th)
  23. Congrats to SL. Nice win. We'll see how the Hounds respond. Personally, I think it will benefit Corbin in the long-run. I would hate to face SL in the region after a 20-25 game win streak. SL will also prosper from this. They knew they could beat Corbin on a given night and now so does everyone else. The district and region is gonna be a lot of fun.
