Final from 13th Region Tournament at Bell County.

 

Clay County had a chance to win it with a three pointed at the buzzer.

Nice win for South.

Most predicted that this could be the best first round game of the 13th, and it sure didn't disappoint!

St. Johns missed two fouls shots and Hooker had a 3-point attempt at the end for the win. Sounded like a great game.

Great game however I have been told that South might have a rough time with Mboro. Guess thats why they play the games...

Great game. But I don't think that South will have a rough time at all against the Yellow Jackets. The Jackets won't be able to handle SL defense.

If Middlesboro has a great shooting game and Green comes to play they could give South all they want. The Jackets will need to find a way to contain St. John ( See Clay County) and rebound the ball in order to pull off the upset.

Great game to watch. Clay battled to the last tick on the clock. SL will not have a hard time with M'boro in my opinion. South has the size and athletism to match-up with Smith and Green for M'boro. They will however have to find a way to slow Brown.

 

I don't think the boro can contain St. John.

The game was definately fun to watch. However, I think the officiating was suspect at times. Let me clarify by saying that I don't think anyone was cheating. I just saw some things that I didn't like.

I suppose I should you explain the basis for my previous comment.

 

1. St. John's had a couple really bad fouls called on him. I know he's big, but if he establishes and holds his position with his hands straight up he should not be called for a foul if the offensive player iniates contact.

 

2. I saw an obvious goal tend on a break away by Clay Co.

 

3. One ref in particular was poor. He made a foul call on a what appeared to be a clean block for Clay. He was out of position and the other refs had better views of the play.

 

4. The same official confronted Coach Spurlock in a very unprofessional manner. He looked like he lost his temper which is something that officials would not tolerate so why is it ok for him to lose his cool?

 

5. The score keeper blew the horn when he noticed a Clay Co player was bleeding. I understand he may have been trying to do the right thing, but only the refs can stop play.

 

6. Score keeper also allowed time to run off the clock on two different occasions.

 

7. Clay Co. made a three pointer that clearly hit the guide wire. It souldn't have counted.

 

I could go on. I realize that calling a game is not easy, but at this time of year missing obvious calls or just flat out making bad calls is unacceptable. I hope it gets better as the tournament progresses.

Tough draw for Clay Co. They win the district and the award is a 1st round matchup with SL. I look for a Corbin/SL rematch in the finals.

The officals are from the 15th region? I thought Mike Walker would be one of the top rated ones over there and I did not see him calling a game last night? Could it be the referees last night were not the top 6 as voted on by the region?
