Didn't make it to the game but just wanted to see how this one played out for those that went. Another lopsided win for the Redhounds against the cross town opponents. Nice to see these two teams hook up in the regular season. Being these two being cross town teams that rarely play, how was the atmosphere and intensity?

It was an ugly game due to all of the fouls committed. Lynn Camp had 3 players to foul out as well as a few fans who should have been thrown out for verbal abuse on the refs. I am not sure what benefit either team gets out of playing this game, especially Corbin.

I thought it was a pretty good contest. Fans pay their money and some get their monies worth more than others. If the officals are going to take that kind of verbal assalt, then so be it. Lynn Camp has some talented players. I can not see how Pineville and Barbourville beat the Wildcats this season. Corbin handled things pretty well considering all the events of the evening. I hope this rivalry continues. Perhaps it can be an annual event played at the New Civic center in the future.

I heard there were two technicals early in the game. Maybe that set the tone for some fans being upset.

I agree one ugly game, LC bench looked really thin last night, maybe 3 subs? I felt the way things were going they would have to finish the game with only 3 or 4 players on the floor! IMO they committed the large majority of those fouls though, to much slapping at the ball, pushing etc, the T's didn 't help things either. Corbin is a deep and good team this year, tough year to renew an old rivalary.

As far as not playing, when we quit playing Corbin a while back, we caught nothing but grief for not doing it, now we are catching grief FOR doing it? What does everyone want? Maybe play 2 qtrs.?:ohbrother:

 

Also, if they are getting nothing out of it (playing LC), why is Corbin also playing really bad teams like they did friday night?

THAT argument made no sense at all due to playing a bad team the night before you played us, then saying, basically, we are so bad you get nothing out of it.:idunno:

 

 

LC is undermanned for a team like CHS, and it has been a long time (70's) since LC beat CHS in Basketball. The fans, while I am not excusing anything, are frustrated and that is what happens.

 

LC plays at a breakneck pace and on both sides of the ball. There are nights that they are going to stay into foul trouble, especially going against someone as talented and deep as Corbin.

 

As far as beratting the officials, I agree with Bubba.

 

I have been at CHS games with some of the local notables/rivals (Clay/SL/KC) and saw the Corbin fan base have plenty to say that is just as bad and no one get tossed. Comes with some of these type of games. Most officials are thick skinned and can take it. If they can't, they are going to hate the job.

 

Verbal, within boundaries (aka threats) is just that. Anything that looks like an escalation to assault needs to be nipped in the bud.

I don't remember the year, maybe 85,86,or 87 but LC beat the Hounds at Corbin, the LC side of the gym was full and rocking. The next year Billy Hicks came from Harlan and the Redhounds became real butt-kickers. When Coach Bingham at LC, took over they stopped playing, IMO good to see them playing again no matter what the score or who wins.

There is absolutely no reason that Lynn Camp and Corbin shouldn't play. Especially given the fact that the Wildacts have improved over the past several years. Granted the Hounds will win the majority of the match-ups but you simply can't simulate the environment produced by the Wildcat faithful.

The SEKC still exists which explains why Harlan remains on the schedule even though they haven't been on par with the Hounds for a number of years. Also, anyone who watched the year 13th Region last year know that he Wildcats can give even perrenial favorites fits.

 

As far as playing a bad team Friday night...FCI Academy was a combined scheduling with Clay Co. Both teams needed another game and the options were limited at best.

 

There were definately some knuckleheads present Saturday night. Unfortunately, they are present at every game. I wish there was a legal way to escort these so-called "fans" from every gym in the nation, but as long as they don't threaten bodily harm we are forced to deal with them. Democracy is a double-edged sword.

 

Finally, I think you have to give both teams and coaches a lot of credit. After all, I don't recall a lot of other top teams in the region who were willing to go to the Camp and play.

Wonder why they just didn't just schedule each other home and away, I know they played once this year don't remember were. Their games are always an intense atmosphere!

For one I don't remember seeing the big 6'4 or so redheaded football player that comes off the bench, don't know about others.
