Former Corbin player now an assistant coach at Whitley Co.

Good stuff there in the article.

I hope Corey does a good job at Whitley. He has been through all the ups and downs of the basketball world and beyond. His experience will an asset, but not as much as his ability to show the kids at Whitley that they can compete with anyone.

I have watched the Colonels for years and most of the time talent is not the issue, but rather the mentality that they can beat the likes of Corbin, Clay, KCC, and SL when it counts. If the administration is patient with the current staff they will be one of the top 5 or 6 teams in the region year after year. If you don't believe me just look at what their football program has done.

I think that their other assistant Jason Faulkner is one of the most underrated assistant coaches out there! Any staff would be lucky to have him on there. I look for him to be looking at head coaching somewhere in the near future.

I agree Faulkner is a great coach and a great guy.

Corey all ways came across to me as a fine young man, I have no doubt he can help WC alot. Does he teach in their school system?

Talked to a few of the players about him. Said he is a very nice guy and approaches them as a friend. Very intelligent about the game, and the players love him. He may be a big part of building the program at Whitley. I believe Chris Baker has done a great job with the kids and will be there for a while! Go Colonels!!

I agree with you. If the administration at WCHS is smart they will let Coach Baker do his job and give him the adequate amount of time.

As an outsider looking in, it seems that every couple of years Whitley changes coaches for a variety of reasons. The Colonels have some talent, but in order to be competitive every year - which they can - they need some stability at the top which Coach Baker provides.

Coach Sears joined the program late but has made up for lost time. The players appear to respond well to him and he looks like he is really enjoying the challenge of coaching. I think he has a lot ot offer the kids, both on and off the court.
