  1. The Bears may end up playing Somerset in back to back weekends if things workout, one would be in Harlan the other in Somerset. On a side note, I would agree that fans, moms, and dads need to let the coaches do their job and teach coach Larkey's system. This system has worked for years at Rock, while it may be somewhat different than what these kids are used to, it is a scheme and if one area decides to do things the way they want rather than what the coaches want then the whole scheme is lost. I hope that most fans realize that it takes time to build a good program, it doesen't happen overnight and may take a few years to get to where you want it to be. Remember do not get discouraged you are winning most games and have only been blown out in one game, and Breathitt has blown out a bunch of good teams in the past, stay the coarse and good things will happen in time.
  2. Weather will play a major role in this game, it is going to be very wet in Harlan Co, so the team that protects the ball should control their fate for the playoffs.
  3. To cool, great job to a really nice kid, thanks Nat you have done your school, community, and family proud.
  4. Have you been watching film on Estill? That is as good of a scouting report on them as I've seen all year. If you don't dig in that wedge is a tough thing to stop.
  5. The district order would be Bell, Harlan, Harlan Co, Middlesboro, not sure who was the host last year, I think Evarts but held at Cawood. HDE will troll over this and give us the skinny.
  6. I was wondering Cowboy, what team did you follow prior to the formation of HCHS? I think that it was probably Cawood after reading some of your posts, with that in mind It didnt seem to annoy you when the Trojans were 2-8 or 1-9 and got to go to Belfry for their annual butt kicking. I don't like this setup either but to again get on this site and take out your frustration on the student athletes of Harlan High School, I can't understand how and why an adult would do such a thing.
  7. This game is very important to how HC does this season, a win and then follow up with a win against a solid Estill Co team and you stand at 6-2, a home playoff game and two winnable games to finish the regular season. Loose however and not have any momentiem going into the huge Estill game and end up at 4-4 with no home playoff game and the end of the season for Larkey and his Bears could be one to forget. This game might be one that the state of the program turns on. So Bears go out and change history and hand Middlesboro a loss at JACHS old field something that has never been done before.
  8. Does anyone have some info on the big sandy conference for middle schools, Harlan Ind played Morgan Co the 1st game of the season, and I was trying to see how their season had played out.
  9. Harlan Co gets to go home and play and hopefully it will be better this time around, but if my memory serves no Harlan Co team has ever defeated Middlesboro at Big Man Davis Field. I had this down as a streak breaker but after last weeks games it may be a real close game with whoever comes into the game in the best frame of mind.
  10. Yes they were every bit as good then as they are now. (Highlands)
  11. The funny thing is that the ones that seem to take the most joy out of a situation like this have never played a down, so they in no way are able to understand what the life lessons are. If they did they might want to remember empathy for a fellow man, for when you choose not to,things have a way of turning around and you may find yourself or someone you care deeply for in the same type of situation.:irked:
  12. Thanks for the info, Cody did find his mojo it was in the dirty clothes pile in his room.
  13. Hey Bears, what is the latest on the Frosh,JV games nothing has been in the HDE on the last two games. Corbin and LCC were the games, not sure if they were freshman or JV. Mama B, I know if anyone has the info it would be you.
  14. I always enjoy reading the classics and this was on of them! (and outlaw) I do know what a classic is.
  15. My goodness outlaw you should write for a news service of some sort, your insightfulness into the depth of the game is what we need more of. BTW how did you get the school board to enact a policy on including football in 1908?
  16. I do agree that they still might be 0-3 but they would not have been getting blown out of games, but I disagree that any of those mentioned would not have played a major role in this team being a great deal better. Harlan's biggest problem IMO is that they have no one with breakaway speed, for one C Taylor and R Ison would give you two threats to take it to the house. I would also point out that Dozier, Brewer, and Napier would give you a lot of value in the rotation on Defense. I think that most followers of the Dragons saw down the road that this team would have its hands full to have a shot at the district, so keep playing and practice hard things will get better, they always seem to work themselves out.
  17. For at least the fourth time, people have asked why the HHS program was down to the degree that it is, that is why I brought it up, it does matter when you loose 8-10 players in two grade levels, most certainly in class A schools. I agree that it is the fault of some in the administration, not all. I also stand by my reasoning that it matters not that they lived in the county district or in France they were students and athletes for the programs of HISD.
  18. Most are freshman and soph but if they had stayed they would be soph and jr, C Taylor, S Dozier, J Brewer, R Ison, T Napier, D Hensley, F Robinette (not playing at HC but transfered) thats seven and there are at least 3-4 that are still playing for NH. While most of these kids transfered 2-3 years ago at the time they were in the middle school program at HHS, and losses like this IMO are not overcome in a small school setting.
  19. Of the nine people on this thread how many have actully been to a game to see what a team has or has not?
  20. Who kicked a 35 yard field goal in middle school around here?
  21. Two wins at home against Pineville and Jenkins = home playoff game, they also could get to 3-3 with a win over McCreary Central also at home. So at this point they are not dead just wounded, so for you guys that read this banter get your butts up and apply and band-aid and get this season off the mat and show folks that there are still two teams in Harlan Co.
  22. Soon as this ones over I'll be in doublecheese heaven.
  23. It used to only be the winner of the district that went to the playoffs, talk about every game counting. The running back at Hazard #24 might be the fastest player I have ever seen in the mountains.
