A bit early to forecast the end of season record with the W'burg game tonight. Although your forecasts are probably accurate, I think tonight's performance will determine how well the Dragons play against Jenkins. The Dragons continue to improve and develop confidence every week. They must have everyone healthy to finish strong. I'll chime back in after tonight's game.

I'm not sure it will be easy given the performance at Williamsburg. I thought they went through the motions and expected to lose at W'Burg. :irked:They should beat Jenkins but I believe it will be close. 21 - 13.

2-8 Gets you a home playoff game? Thats a joke

That's the beauty of the six class system with so many four team districts where everyone makes the playoffs. Even 0-10 gets you in the playoffs, and as long as you are better than two of the other teams in your district, you are a #2 seed hosting a playoff game. Harlan is definitely not the first and won't be the last.

Harlan is steadily improving and wins this one easily.

I agree with D-Slayer and actually wouldn't be surprised to see Harlan win their home playoff game against a 3 seed like Allen Central from District 8.

A win vs. Jenkins wont "make their season." Harlan's players and coaches know fully well that this season has not been the type of season that they wanted or have come to expect over the years. It will be, however, a little vindication of a tough non-district schedule with a team that has only 3 seniors, only one of which played 4 years. As far as them having similar programs, look at the history of the 2 teams and I think you will see that Harlan has enjoyed decades of good football. Harlan simply played the hand they were dealt this season, and a home playoff game would be a nice reward for continuing to fight when they could have folded their tents. Unfortunately, this is not a video game that you can hit "replay" when things arent going well and this season certainly isnt "living the dream."

 

I took the tone of your post as sarcastic with faint praise toward Harlan. If that wasnt the case, I apologize up front!

I was wondering Cowboy, what team did you follow prior to the formation of HCHS? I think that it was probably Cawood after reading some of your posts, with that in mind It didnt seem to annoy you when the Trojans were 2-8 or 1-9 and got to go to Belfry for their annual butt kicking. I don't like this setup either but to again get on this site and take out your frustration on the student athletes of Harlan High School, I can't understand how and why an adult would do such a thing.

Cawood never got a home playoff game with one or two or three or four wins, but the point is valid. Everything is different with the expanded playoffs and more classes. Harlan is going to do what I expected in August, beat Pineville and Jenkins and be at home for a winnable game in the playoffs.

 

I was looking back at 1968 records the other day when Harlan was 10-0-1 and DIDN'T make the playoffs. They tied Lynch, and Lynch won the state championship that year. Harlan may have been the second best team in the state and didn't even win a district title.

 

Or how about if you were 1968isaac and played on powerhouse teams that had to beat DANVILLE just to win a district championship? Cawood was 0-8 in the playoffs from 1982 to 1990 but had to play Danville three times, Covington Catholic three times and Highlands twice.

 

It's not the current players' fault that the playoff system has changed.

Acutally Bayshore since you were wondering I went to High school at Rusell and I am proud to be a RED DEVIL. I went on to get my business degree at Morehead State on a cheerleading scholorship, and the a Masters for the University of Louisville. By the way I just copied your post (with only changing the win and loss record) on the HCHS vs. Middlesboro post with the game being a turning point of a 5-5 season vs a 8-2 season depending on the win for the Black Bears. (please go back and read your post) I have no frustration and once again you accuse me of talking about student athletes and not one time in my post have I mentioned any player or athlete.

 

But I must assume that you do not like them and want to take out your frustration on there student athletes of that school. I just can't understand how and why an adult would do such a thing.
