  1. Thomas plays for the Jets, not sure about his brother.
  2. That is pretty cool, I hear that the Jones brothers have a football camp for young players does anyone know more about this.
  3. Sorry I found them they have them listed in the 5A at number 24 out of 36 with a composite score of 42.3
  4. Why is HCHS not listed in the state rankings, in todays Hearld there was no mention in any of the class polls.
  5. Good Luck Bears, show the flatlanders how good mountain ball can be.
  6. Who did they loose? I thought the Freshman Bears might dominate.
  7. Well when I posted this I knew in my mind that I may have to eat some crow, with that said, I owe HDE a public apology, in one of my rants reguarding the city/county debate I took a personal shot, and for this I offer my personal apology to HDE and his family. Someone who speaks of conducting one's self with class should know better.
  8. No not at all but when someone refers to me as GAYshore and then another refers to my business in a condesending way, then yes I do respond. Pull up any of my 125 posts and if I have made a remark that gets personal to anyone in a negitive way, let me know because I hope that I can conduct myself with a little more class than that.
  9. Don't need them just pointed out as to why things where the way they are. Oh yea Some of us have to work, and if you and Cowboy want to stop by my shop we might be able to settle our differances. PM if your interested
  10. Harlan Middle School 7-8 40 Lynn Camp Middle 7-8 14 Big win for the Dragons six different players scored TDs- 1st Defense had a shutout, LC scored two TDs late in the fourth quarter. Maybe we are getting to where we may could play with some of the teams on N-Harlan's schedule.
  11. You can always use edit to correct a typo, but this was posted as a jab, but I can spar too.
  12. Hang around after practice and I'll let you know why we don't play. Its rather silly imo.
  13. Cowboy- before you go out and try to down play what 11-14 year olds have done on the football field, remember that HHS is a class A school and in order to futher itself in playoff football it must beat simmilar size schools in its district and region. So to drive 100s of miles to Pineville,Williamsburg, Lynn Camp, Jenkins, and Middlesboro seems the right thing to do, unless you are saying that in order to check ones self you must first play the teams in Harlan Co, and that, and that alone somehow lets you know how you stand as a football program. BTW nobody that is part of the middle school program at HHS has ever stated that they expect this group to do anything more than win a district or two and maybe contend for a region, and if in your opinion that is putting a undue burden on these guys then guilty as charged.
  14. I thought this subject was one the reasons for the decline of HHS football, but to debate your logic, since the 60s some 50 plus years ago parents of children in Harlan Co have choosen to send their kids to HISD for whatever reason, and that is a trend that still plays out today. With this in mind, thus the reasoning on how loosing players where ever has put the program back in being successful at this time.
  15. All of the kids mentioned would have made a huge impact on this years team, while I would agree that no one would have been a star, the fact that just having bodies to get a real look when you run your scout teams is one area they would be a major help. The thing that hurts the most is that without these players coach D has not been able to get the benifit of playing JV or freshman games the experience gained alone could result in a win or two per year.
  16. Grubbs, Halburnt, Hollins, Rigney, Blas, Witt, Carr, Ison, plus the 8-10 that transfered to New Harlan. This is close to twenty players and most of the skill that was in the HMS pipeline is gone, this is the true picture as to why the level has gone down.
  17. Not to start up another fight on the 3A-5A situation but how does this make any sense 187 mile one way trip for a district game. Surely there is a better way to keep these districts closer for games. Harlan Co fans, just as Fleming fans last year will only be a fraction of fans that would normally go to a high school football game.
  18. Whoever plays in this game will be going 100 mph and it will matter to these kids who wins. I think that both coaches want to get a win in this game, Larkey to let his team know that they can compete with the best and for Hilton to keep the kids from HC from thinking that they are up to Bell's level.
  19. To add to WV this is where the mass exodus from HMS is coming back to the surface for the high school sports programs. A few years ago there were about ten students that hade been Harlan students since K4 decided that they didn't like what was going on in the Middle school and left to go on to major success for the New Harlan Patriots. These kids are now in high school and the void created is what we are going through. Not only were these good athletes but good students as well, so HHS is forced to wait until the next wave of numbers come through. We that follow the progress of the Dragons are hopeful that this group of middle school teams is going to have the success that Harlan fans strive for good sports and great students. One side note, on another web site there was a report on the ACT scores for the state and Harlan Ind did very well, they ranked 47th in the state in overall scores out of 232 high schools. With this being said some of the parents in the HHS family only need to realize that sports and academics can be successful in the same school, and that being good in one area does not mean that you can't be in the other.
  20. Lynn Camp went to the state semifinals just a few years ago, If you want to go back before coach Mitchell's time then you may find a time when they were not very good, but in the time that he has been there they could play with just about anyone.
