This was such as awesome game last year - can't wait for Friday night!:jump: I think the Birds will be too much for JC though - unless they completely go to pieces which I just can't see happening. Their focus week-to-week this season has been impressive to say the least.

I'm not much of a basketball fan, so... But if I were a fan concerned with crowning the best college basketball team in the nation, I'd say no, I don't like it. Personally, I think the NCAA tourney is more about entertainment & money than anything else.

With all do respect to the poster, I completely disagree with this statement. The champion of any sport should be the best team from among the group of teams that won consistantly throughout the season. IMO, the only reason for postseason playoffs at all is to help nuetralize somewhat the variation in diffuclty of schedules played by the better teams that could not be accounted for by a pure ranking system like we used to have in college football. Getting hot in the playoffs should not negate 7 (or even 5) regular season losses. If you can't win throughout the regular season, you don't deserve the reward of the playoffs. The regular season should mean more that just your seeding in the playoffs!

Just in case anyone is thinking that, assuming Highlands & JC meet up in a couple weeks, that Highlands would overlook JC or somehow not give them the respect they deserve due to their 0-4 start or the # of points they gave up to Scott....believe me, after last year's playoff game no one if Ft. Thomas is going to overlook JC. That was one heck of a football game!

If Birds play as they have been & don't turn the ball over, it's a repeat of the first game or worse. I don't know how else to look at it.

In NKY alone, we had 2-8 & 3-7 teams make the playoffs. IMO, that is just plain stupid. The regular season should mean something. Sure there were teams ranked 3 & 4 who pulled upsets, but many shouldn't have had the chance to begin with. If you don't win in the regular season, you don't belong in the playoffs - bottom line.

While there are always up and down years, I think most schools on average have roughly the same amount of genetically talented kids. To me, the question is how do the rest of the kids develop - those kids that are only "average" when they arrive at HS? IMO, those are the kids that put Highlands over the top each year. How do you think they got enough kids for a two platoon system?

I've never seen the WKU stadium, but from what I've heard I'm really looking forward to the more "cozy" environment - assuming HHS makes it. I've never cared for being in the pizza box when it's 80% empty, although I can tolerate it to see the Birds take home the prize!

I used to agree with this statement, but I'm not sure I do anymore. What Highlands has accomplished over the last decade is almost beyond impressive. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if they win state this year, it will be 8 state championships in 16 years for Dale. For the mathematically challenged, that's a state championship every other year! Would they win the GCL championship every year? No, but no school wins that championship every year. It's bounced around quite a bit between St. X & Elder, and now Moeller is back in the mix. You can point out all the previous losses to GCL teams (as the paper does every year they play a GCL team), but playing GCL teams week in, week out most likely would only help to increase their overall level of play. I may be wrong, but I'm really starting to believe that they could compete year in, year out. I'm not saying win every year, but compete, yes.

This game was billed as a chance to see how the teams have improved and changed over the season. So what's the verdict? HHS played without their starting QB (I know he played RB, but it's not even remotely the same thing) and without their starting RB, both of whom are two of the better players in the state at their respective positions. As far as I know, all major Ryle players who were there for the first game were there again last night. Correct me if I'm wrong. The scoreboard - virtually the same. You can make up your own mind.

Agreed. And two things - it's amazing how well Tony G & Bardo played at QB considering they didn't start until their senior years, and man am I looking forward to Towles' senior season. If he can keep his head on straight & keep working hard, the '11 season could really be something special. One last point. I really hope a decent school takes a flyer on Bardo even though they only have 6 games of film to rely on. Some think he'd play defense in college, but I'd love to see him get a shot at QB.

I totally agree with the execution part, but I think it's now pretty obvious that HHS witheld QB keepers from all games prior to St. X so that they could spring Bardo's speed & running ability on an unsuspecting St. X defense. QB keepers of various types had been the bread & butter of their offense for at least the previous two years, and we saw maybe 1 or 2 in HHS's first 5 games combined. I don't care what you call that - I call it great coaching.

I don't care where you line him up, carying the ball he has the most fierce desire to go forward I think I've ever seen.

Since I was publicly accused of purposely voting against Highlands last week, let me go on record right now by stating that I have voted for Highlands to beat Scott! Check the poll if you'd like.:irked:

I have absolutely no idea how I voted for CC :confused: - eyes must have been blurry late at night. HHS takes this one unless they really come appart.

I don't disagree with this, but the majority of HS knee injuries seem to be to skilled-position players, not linemen. I wouldn't mind seeing some simple type of knee brace becoming mandatory in HS period. With how much a college scholarship is worth, seems like a good investment at minimal loss of speed. Brandon Roller's (HHS) sure doesn't seem to be slowing him down much!

Ditto on that, and based upon how much his play has improved since the beginning of the season, I suspect that come playoff time you'll see a whole other level. It looks to me that his mobility continues to improve every week.:thumb:

Besides the True brothers, what other Dixie kids are now enrolled at Highlands?

Roman Empire - do a search & you should find all kinds of opinions on the subject. Some of it is good reading, some is nonsense. I will say this about the athletes. I've lived here long enough now to know that not all those kids were born w/ that much speed & quickness. Contrary to what commentators on TV say, you can indeed improve both speed and quickness.

I know I live in Ft. Thomas, but assuming you're not a Cov Cath student, alumni or parent, I just don't understand the 'hate Highlands' thing. I look at it like the 'don't hate the messanger' thing. If you're not smaller than HHS, and you get your butt kicked, then here's the message: "work harder, work smarter." It's really that simple. HHS shows everyone what's possible, and I think many people just don't like being shown that what they're currently doing isn't good enough. The day Highlands stops working this hard and this smart, they won't be as successful. No excuses. If you think the Jr. Football League is the big secret, then start your own version, just like someone did 40 years ago in Ft. Thomas. If you think the great community support is the reason, then get your community fired up. There's nothing that Highlands does that everyone else can't. It's sort of like when the Japanese car companies came over here. Their stuff was better, & all the American car guys hated them. Rather than take their example and work harder, the American car companies said 'We can't do what they do. They have an unfair advantage with the Japanese worker.' We all know how that line of thinking worked out for the Big 3. Don't hate HHS for their advantages - they created them by themselves, no one gave them anything. Ft. Thomas Schools is one of the worst funded districts in the state EVERY YEAR. It's almost a crime how little money is returned to them by the state. Most of you have a huge advantage right there (sorry Beechwood, you're in the same boat as us!).

You took the words right out of my mouth. :clap: Been thinking this since week 1 when I didn't see a single QB draw against Manual. No offense to any of Highlands opponents thus far, and not to overlook a good BC team, but IMO the first 4 and now 5 games of the season have been one big building process to the St. X game.
