CC should win this one. They need to continue to improve and not put the ball on the ground. Fumbles are the only way I see CC losing this one.

No disrespect to Coach Holland, but he can not hold Gary Forrest's jock when it comes to coaching at this point. Forrest took Oldham to the big show when he had to beat Scott to get there. Top quality coach. His record has numerous district and regional titles. Holland was at the largest school in a weak district and did not win a district championship while he was at Henry. Granted, Henry was a wreck when he took the job and he did build them into a respectable squad. Not looking to bash Holland, but they had a better coach last year than they are going to have this year!!

NKY basketball is deep with quality teams, just not at the same level as Louisville and Lexington. NKY may have 5 teams in the top 40 - traditionally, Holmes, Highlands, and Cov Cath are all top 25, but not generally top 10 or top 5. Louisville and or Lexington will have 3 to 5 top ten teams almost every year. Scott County, Lex Cath, PRP, Male, Ballard - you can almost vote them in the top ten and not know anything about them. They are that good every year.

Trinity may have the best team in Louisville. I would have them in the top 10.

Gallatin is 3rd pick. Coaches had Walton verona and Owen County tied at 1st.

Wow, this thread has been open for 48 hours and almost no response from the Gallatin faithful. Normally, the Cat fans would have about 30 posts by now. I hear they have won most of their games this summer. No smack????

I like Walton as the best of the small schools. They have some very good young talent.

I was told interviews were done a week ago. I wonder if the job has been offered and applicants are pulling out.

1. Anderson County - defending champs, highest ranked returning player from last years all region team in Russell - a beast, Humphries is a 6'5 stud, Ruggles is 6'3 quality player and they return their point guard. Throw in the best coach in the region and Anderson is the pick. 2. Shelby County - best talent in the region every year!! Boomer is the quickest point guard in the region, Tomlinson has started for 3 years, Johnson is not one of my favorite players, but he is the most talented player in the region, Beach is a quality pivot man, Payton is a good big with a lot of spring, Hicks is a future all state player and they have more that I don't even know the names of - deep and talented. 3. North Oldham - Foley and Rowan are potential all region. Supporting cast is good and deep. Style of play is aggressive. You better be able to handle pressure or they will wear you out. Best young talent in Oldham County has been headed to North as of late. The rest in any order. Owen, Henry, Gallatin can all argue to have a shot. Owen has size- no guards. Henry has guards - no size, no coach. Gallatin has guards, no size. Simon Kenton has two very good players in Sorrell and Chambers, but they are unproven after that. Walton has size and guards and a new coach. They could be a team to watch, but it is very difficult to win a region after winning less than half your games the year before. Oldham has young talent - no go to player. Good athletes, but young. Holland will have talent and he does a good job. It will be interesting to see if urban kids buy in to Holland as well as the country boys at Henry. South Oldham is always one of the best offensive teams in the region. If they can add defense to their list of talents they will be dangerous!! The other teams in the region are not contenders this year.

I agree on Jackson and Hicks. Hicks is the best freshmen in the region. Possible big time talent. Rowan has not impressed me to date, but he has the body for big potential. Spencer County has a real nice junior to be, but I can not remember his name. Any help??

I have seen them play this summer. They are improved over last year. Nethery needs to get them to play 32 minutes and they will be competitive.

There was not any varsity level talent at Eminence last year. The question in evaluating a coach is whether the talent you inherited improved throughout the year. Eminence improved each game. Nethery did a nice job. I have heard the Gallatin staff state that Nethery is very gifted in the x and o part of the game. He and his wife are Henry County natives, so I would think they would have an interest in the job. Hiring coaches during a time when most schools are reducing their staff may come down to who they have a fit for in the classroom, not the most experienced coach. The rumor was Oldham had very few applicants that they could fit into their position. I would not be surprised if that affects Henry as well.

I believe that Highfield does a great job considering the talent he has to work with at Ludlow. I don't see a better candidate coming to replace him because Ludlow is not a very attractive job around the state.

I don't know how many of the 8th region coaches are looking to move. I would think Simpson at South and Edelyn at North would be happy where they are. Duvall at Owen is probably the hottest name of young 8th region coaches and he is Owen to the core. Jones at Gallatin is pretty settled. Nethery at Eminence might be an up and comer but he hasn't proven himself quite yet. Holland at Henry could be a possibility. We here his name in some rumors for jobs from time to time. He has done well at Henry. He might be a candidate.

Rumor mill has Matt Watkins, current AD at Oldham and former assistant and Coach Griffin, former head coach at South Oldham as possible candidates.

I don't see how Coach Jones is under the radar because when I was school, we always had better talent, but he'd seem to find a way to beat us come district playoffs.

Very classy move by the local district and Class "A" schools to sit behind Gallatin's bench and root for Holmes. Are you sure you want to give these boys any added motivation?
