Who will be the surprise teams in the 8th Region this year?

I think Walton will give everyone a surprise this year. They are returning everyone from last years team who did better than most thought they would- and with a new coach- it could be interesting.

They should have a good year. Gallatin will surprise many people this year as well.

Saw Walton play against St. Henry a week or so ago good height and Coach has them playing up tempo. They should have a good year.

Who are Walton's bigs? I know they have Burns who I think is about 6'5" but I don't remember any other tall kids.

Reynolds has good height and shoots the ball real well. IMO Burns struggled a little against a very good atheltic St. Henry team. The player guarding him early was a physical player, if Burns adds some muscle this summer he will be hard to handle inside with his size. They had a couple other players who also had size. They also shot the 3 ball very nice.

Reynolds is 6'5" and Burns is 6'7". I can tell Burns has been putting on some muscle in the last year from what I have seen. I got to see him play in a couple of AAU games this summer and was impressed. Reynolds is still a rail but he is more of an outside player and does not like the middle. Reynolds and Burns will compliment each other well. Haven't seen them play this summer with HS but I hear Coach Trame really has them playing some team ball and working them hard.

I don't know if I would call them a suprise team, most coaches think they are the favorite to win the Class A region.

Glad to see Burns has put on some muscle, he was a toothpick last year.

What coaches are saying that. They have to get past Gallatin County first.

Gallatin is 3rd pick. Coaches had Walton verona and Owen County tied at 1st.

I guess we will see what Coach Trame can do with these kids. I know he will work very hard and push these kids to be their best.

Hmmm....there are going to be a lot of question marks in the 8th region boys next year; only Shelby looks to be a sure-fire contender. Anderson will almost certainly be competitive, but who will be the surprise????

 

I guess it depends upon how you define "surprise"...:lol: IMO, Henry County was 2008's big surprise...they feasted on a weak schedule, but proved in the 8th Region tournament - although never really a threat to win it - that they were deserving of respect. Hats off to the Wildcats on a great season.

 

One of the "tweener" schools - North Oldham - just might be, if they can get their players all on the same page. But I guess it's hard to count North as a "surprise" team after their successes of the past couple of years. Walton might be...but I understand there's a new coach there (could be good news or bad news, yet to see)... Henry County could be...but there's a new coach there, too, with the uncertainty that brings. How about Simon Kenton, which looked like they might be jelling late in the year last year?

 

December will reveal a lot, I think, about this region this year. But one thing's for sure: Shelby - in their final year as the county's sole high school - is loaded with experienced studs. I thought Mike Clark did a great job with that group last year, and this will be their big opportunity.
