I agree. I'd hate to hang 75 on someone, but if you honestly can't help it there isn't much you can do. Go vanilla and hope the clock runs out very quickly. I'd hate to tell a freshman getting his first varsity experience that he couldn't recover a fumble or try to get a first down.

Let me say this first, I think that running up the score as an awful practice. However I don't think that most coaches out there do it. Lopsided scores are going to happen in HS football. Sometimes a team is just that much better than the other team. If you have your freshman in the game and they're still scoring on simple run plays while you're trying to milk the clock what can you do? I don't believe in telling your kids not to play hard or to stop trying. I hate seeing two teams play when the talent disparity is too great because I think it benefits no one. The better team basically waste a week of practice preparing for the game (not working on everyday fundamentals though obviously) and you have to feel awful for the team on the losing end because those kids and coaches practice, play hard and try to win as well. It's really a no-win. When I was in HS I played in games where we won by a comfortable margin and games where we got absolutely drilled. Our HC always had enough respect for an over-matched opponent to never run it up on them. Russell is a great example of this as well in EKY (as are most programs in the area I just have experience playing against Russell alot so I used them as an example). There have been Russell teams that could win district games by 200 points if they wanted to IMO, but Ivan McGlone and his staff refuse to embarrass teams. I always like to see McGlone and Russell do well because they are so classy in victory (& defeat), and you'll never hear me or another WC person with a brain say a bad word about their program.

I can see that and agree that at a glance 75-14 does not look good at all. But do you just tell your freshman and sophomores to not play hard? I would be interested to hear how SV fans feel about the score and how LC played it is what I'm really saying.

What if the younger kids did half of the scoring? Sometimes you just can't help it unless you punt on first down. I think it's too quick to judge this game without knowing the circumstances. I'm not defending scoring 75, I just think that until we know how the game was played I don't want to rush to judgement. I will say that perhaps these two teams should not have played each other.

I'm not suprised Russell kept it close and seemed to hang in there pretty tough. They have an excellent program, and by the end of the season will no doubt be a team that no one looks forward to playing.

They seem like they like both pretty well. If I had to guess it's probably a little more of a basketball school, but I think it is still a football school too. I vote both.

How is Lewis suppose to be this year? I don't know if I can remember them having a win by this margin the recent years. Don't know much about KCC but congrats to the Lions on the win.

I know the overall history of the programs don't compare but look at what happened at Boyle County after Smith left. That's all I'm saying. It takes a pretty good coach to keep a program at the level Highlands is at now, no matter the talent level, support, tradition, etc. IMO.

No way IMO. There are plenty of good coaches in the state, and plenty that could win titles at Highlands, but I don't think anyone or even half the coaches could do it. Highlands plays up 2 divisions don't they? I think a question like that is a slap in the face to the Highlands coaching staff.

Fort Campbell is one of those teams I always like to see do well. Can't wait to check out the article.

I had never thought about it like this but I think you have an excellent point. On the most basic level I think a football teams success stems from the hardwork and dedication of their players and coaches, and the talent level, numbers, things like that. But, when it comes to building a program I absolutely think that Private, Independent and long-standing community based schools have an advantage for the reason you mentioned, people in those situations are alumni and their families are alumni of that particular school. A program is so much bigger than the current players and coaching staff. You need a good support system. People who are willing to work hard at fund-raising, concessions, and other things that help provide money for the things teams need. They need good support all the way up too. Pee-wee, middle school, everything. I think in schools were the entire family is alumni of that specific school it is much easier to accomplish these goals, because everyone in the community has ownership in the program. It's not just their kids teams for the 4 years they're there. It's their program for life. JMO.

Looks like he has a good motor and blocks to the whistle. A couple of those blocks were just filthy (in a good way). The screen pass where he decapitated the CB and the one where the QB scrambled around for about 30 seconds were sick. 6'5", 290 recruited by Penn State among others, I'll take that.

I'm very interested in this game because I think we'll find out alot about both teams on Friday night. Hopefully it's a good, close, hard-fought game. I have no prediction, I don't really like to predict area HS games that much. Good luck to both teams. :thumb:

My question is how good would Army, Navy or Air Force be without the Flexbone? You guys remember when Air Force was so good earlier this decade and then decided to go away from the Bone for a few years? Dobbs is very good for Navy, but how many games would they win in a Pro-style system? I think you have to go with your personnel and run a system that suits them. I think that is what Greenup seems to be doing. Wasn't it kind of a shocker that they played Ashland so close?

I'm of the mindset that it's not really what you run it's how you run it. Personally I'm more of a spread guy, for the reason that you stated. I do like an offense that is more capable of producing big plays at a quicker rate, but then again if you're playing from behind with not a lot of time left does your scheme really matter that much? Would Greenup have won the game running June Jones' Run and Shoot? I wasn't at the game, but I wouldn't assume so. They had success against Ashland running the scheme their coaches know and statistically it seems to fit their personnel. You can say that a run oriented offense cannot make a comeback (I'm sure they have), but Greenup's coaching staff would probably tell you that it would be hard to comeback against them because they run the ball so well and can run out the clock. In the first week I would imagine that Greenup does not have their entire passing game perfected since they seem to be so run oriented. If this were week 8 I think they may have a reason to panic a little more. I see your point but I don't think the system failed Greenup. I actually think it seems like it was one of the reasons they had a chance to beat Ashland. JMO, not arguing just giving my 2 cents. :thumb:

Is this a Friday night game? Both teams fans on here do sandbag alot so I want to know, should this be a pretty good game this year? If so, I may have to check it out. I always like to try to catch a game at Putnam, so I might have to come out to this one.

Early in the season I think you have to take the good with the bad. 3 picks isn't great, but at least they won and he did seem to make up for it for the rest of the game. :thumb:
