It's easy to seed a district since it only requires scheduling 3 or 4 games. Impossible to seed regions or state since you can't play everyone in the tourney.

I am definitely in favor of seeding, because it rewards teams for head to head results, but with that said, district tournaments are extensions of the unseeded regional and state tournaments.

 

But the only one of the three to reward teams that lose a game.

PS - doesn't it take (in a 4-team district) a vote of 3-1 or 4-0 to "overturn" the current method (seed or draw) of determining regional qualifiers. If so, is it realistic to think that (for example) Deming and/or Nicholas County will change their mind any time soon?

 

I think you are correct. A 2-2 vote simply keeps things the way they are.

See post #31. I totally agree with MNCM. I also so think that the whole state should just go one way or the other (hopefully Blind Draw). I also agree with TOG in that if you do the Blind Draw then only the District Champ moves on. I think it was a Blind Draw statewide until about the 80s and everything worked out ok.

 

After reading many of these posts, I would be in favor of a blind draw if we continued to play each District opponent only once. This is all conjecture, but I would stick with seeding, but require that each team in the district play each other twice (home and home) and set up a tiebreaker system with the coin flip being the last resort similar to NFL tiebreakers. I know, I know, you need a law book and quantum physics to figure all of those out, but mine would look similar to this(with possible separate tiebreakers involving three teams):

 

1. Head to Head

2. Record in common games

3. Record in games within your Region

4. Strength of victory

5. Strength of schedule

6. Coin flip

 

We may throw some other tiebreakers with points scored too, but again this is all conjecture.

7, 36, 38, 39, 43, 49, 54, 55, & 61.

 

With 64 districts, that means 55 districts are seeded districts. I thought that it was interesting that only one district (7) in western KY was not seeded.

The notion of coin flips determining seeding seems incongrous to me. We're talking about how seeding is the fair way to go as opposed to a blind draw; yet no one has objections to a coin flip (in essence a blind draw itself) determining the #1 seed in the 40th, or determining who may stay home in the 37th?

 

To use a phrase I've often heard, there seems to be a disconnect here.

District 7 is Madisonville and Hopkins Central (two really large schools), Caldwell County (a bigger All A school) and Dawson Springs (among the smallest in the state). In the last realignment Caldwell County replaced tiny Providence, which closed, and had always voted to draw. Caldwell County apparently voted to draw as well.

Blind Draw. Give the school schools a chance.

 

The 44th district which consists of Madison Central, Madison Southern, Berea, and Model has had a draw forever. Model and Berea always use this cry as give us a chance. Well, for the first year in 20 years Model and Berea are as good if not better than Southern and will probably still want to draw. I hope Berea or Model will choose to draw so they can get the wrath of not going to the 11th Region tournament and finally feel the sting of not seeding. Other than Central the 44th district is irrelavent anyway but KHSAA needs to pass a rule for seeding and every year let the best two teams go to the Region Tournament.

^ Sounds like the 39th and the 44th are very similar in terms of the sizes of the four schools. It stands to reason that every once in a while one of the three small schools is going to have a competitive team.

 

That leads to another question. How often is the seed/draw question voted upon by the districts? Every year?

In our area alone I know of 3 A schools who are 3 of the 4 top teams in their districts. Those 3 schools have beaten a lot of the big schools this year and in years past. Last year Walton beat SK in the district championship, this year Gallatin has beaten Simon Kenton and Ryle handily, and Owen may have the best team in the 8th region. I know these schools don't want to seed.

You misunderstand me and I mis typed what I was trying to say they don't want blind draws is what I meant to say. I am saying all this fuss about the A schools not wanting seeding is crazy. Walton, Gallatin and Owen are year in and year out the best teams in their districts they do not want seeding. I am telling the BGPers it is not the A schools only that want blind draws. These Schools want seeding, I am saying don't blame it on all the A schools only the ones who can't compete.
