I know in our district, it is a blind draw. The only schools that complain about seeding and/or want seeding is NCC and Highlands. Bellevue, Dayton, and Newport vote for blind draw. I know this may not be the issue in most districts, but in our district Highlands and NCC have won it more than anybody else so seeding or blind draws do not have an impact on the district tournament.

The only time there is a major uproar is when Bellevue/Dayton play and the winner advances to the final, thus moving on to the Region. But for small schools it's nice to get a shot at the region tournament, especially for the funds that it will bring in.

However, having bad teams in the regional tournament doesn't make for good basketball games at the regional tournament.

This, this and more this.

Based solely on the 38th district draw, I can tell you one night I will not be attending the 10th region tournament. Seeding=Better quality regional tournaments, plain & simple.

I can see if both ways. If you go to or play for a small school I could see why you wouldn't want the seeded draw.

See below quotes, I agree with them.

Seed it. Without question. I want to see the best pool of talent possible at the Regional level.

That's why they have their own additional tournament.

Agee they have the All A.

And if you cannot make seeding mandatory state wide, then leave it up to the regions. At least it will be consistent at that level. All teams in the regional tourney will have advanced based on a seeded district tournament (or a blind draw). Although upsets can happen anytime, the odds would be that the regional tourneys would be made up of 1 seeds and 2 seeds. This could lead to some outstanding basketball games.

Think of the gate $$$ that the 10th loses if Pendleton County doesn't make it. They have as good a following as anyone in the 10th.

I know this is the basketball forum, but the decision is made for all sports at the beginning of each year as I understand it. The inequity in baseball can be even more pronounced where a District Winner gets to rest their top pitcher in Round 1 of the Regionals against a "subpar" District Runner Up that advanced primarily due to blind draw rather than seeding whilst another District Winner must pitch their ace against a District Runner Up advancing from a seeded district. If both District Winners advance to play each other, the one with the fresh arm has an advantage in the 1 & out format.

Blind Draw. Give the school schools a chance.

What to embarrass their team and their school in the regional tournament. Every team should earn their way to the regional tournament.

Whatever the decision is it should be the same for every district in the state. We should not have some that seed and some that draw! That is what is not fair. I can tell you sitting in a room waiting to draw the pill is extremely nerve wracking! The district meeting when seeding is pretty boring. Drawing generates excitement and gives everyone a chance. However, having bad teams in the regional tournament doesn't make for good basketball games at the regional tournament.

Couldn't agree more with the statements in bold. Still believe seeding is the right thing for everyone but would like to see every one do the same thing.

Blind draw.

Based on personal preference, affiliation, or both?

Seed it. All a blind draw does is possibly give a terrible team the opportunity to get beaten badly in the regional and water down the regional tournament.

The 39th is one of those districts that still have the blind draw. With three real small schools (Augusta, Bracken and St. Patrick) and one medium-size school (Mason County), here's my guess as to why the district stays with the draw.

The first three schools want a 2 out of 3 chance to avoid drawing the short blue straw, and the fourth school doesn't care one way or the other.

A blind draw simply isn't fair when the two best teams in the district draw each other. Take the 38th District, which drew this morning. I mean no disrespect to Deming or Nicholas County, but it's not fair that one of those teams will make it to Region, but either Harrison County or Pendleton County will be left sitting at home. Plus it makes for a less exciting District Championship and less exciting first round Regional Tournament games. I just don't see any positives of a blind draw.

The thing that gets me is that it seems that schools "like" this philosophy (2 out of 3 chance to avoid the #1 team) because they EXPECT to be bad. Instead of looking at it that WHEN WE ARE ACTUALLY GOOD, we'd still have a 1 in 3 chance of going home before the championship game. If you set a goal of being a good team at the end of the season (and let's face it, who doesn't want to be that)....why in the world would you want your postseason matchup to be determined by luck?
