January 17, 201214 yr I look at it this way. The '92 team is like that team of old dudes at the "Y", you're young and you think we are going to kill these old dudes. They proceed to work you like a mule.
January 17, 201214 yr A good US college team could have won gold. That's funny, I seem to remember that the reason the US decided to start using NBA players in the Olympics was because our best college players were NOT winning the international tournaments.
January 17, 201214 yr Author That's funny, I seem to remember that the reason the US decided to start using NBA players in the Olympics was because our best college players were NOT winning the international tournaments. Partly. We also realized that pro players from other countries were playing with their national teams so it was only right to play pros against pros in the Olympics.
January 17, 201214 yr Author Anything on an Anglefire page can't be given much credit I just googled 1992 Olympic basketball stats. Who lies about stats?

January 17, 201214 yr The main ingredients to me that makes me think that the 2012 team is not as good is the overall effort that the players from the '92 team played with and their leadership qualities. I think that just about everyone knows that the overall leadership quality with many of today's players isn't remotely near what it used to be.
January 17, 201214 yr Besides Bird and Magic, the '92 team was still in their prime. Exactly, plus you have the intangible factor of wills. I'll take MJ, Bird and Magic's will over anybody in today's game. Those guys would not permit a loss, even for a second, and would probably fight about it. I see nobody in today's game except Kobe and occasionally Wade who have that kind of heart. MJ alone would have everybody in today's group so discombobulated they wouldn't be able to perform anywhere close to their peak.
January 17, 201214 yr You mean the absolutely most overrated NBA player of all time? Yes, he was on that team also. Are you serious? At least explain why you feel this way about Malone? Shoot if it wasn't for Jordan, Malone would have had two rings. They actually at least made the Bulls work for it too. Not to mention its not like he was surronded by great teammates, he had Stockon and a bunch of role players. It doesn't matter if you like a guy or not, I know I have heard from a few people they he may be kind of a jerk. However it doesn't take away that he was a great basketball player during his time.

They proceed to work you like a mule. That is how I see it too. And as I have already conceded, this year's version has more "talent", but the Heat have proven it takes more than just that. I do not like the intangible make-up of the team.
January 17, 201214 yr That's funny, I seem to remember that the reason the US decided to start using NBA players in the Olympics was because our best college players were NOT winning the international tournaments.Of the four previous Olympics the US won gold in two of them, didn't participate in one due to a boycott, and grabbed the bronze in the other. I think my statement remains true. FIBA made the decision to allow NBA players to play, so we took ours.

I never liked Karl Malone. In fact he was one of my least favorite NBA players growing up. But in saying that, to call him one of the most overrated is so far from the truth.

He was made in a laboratory by John Stockton. He was nothing without Stockton. Yeah, he scored a bunch of points but he was too soft for my taste for a 6'9" 250 pound man. Only person he ever got tough with was Isaiah Thomas. He was a fine basketball player but I'd take Griffin, Love, Barkley and Duncan at power forward over Malone and that's just off the top of my head.
