January 17, 201214 yr Author I wouldn't argue that. And, I think it would be a better fit than just picking the next best big man in the entire league. It is a shame that Andrew Bynum hadn't developed fully before they began compiling a team. Where he is at now as a player he is deserving of a spot this team.

January 17, 201214 yr Author I bet the Lakers FO would do everything in their power to prevent him playing on the team. Seeing as how frail that he is that is probably in their best interest.
January 17, 201214 yr Seeing as how we've brought up ages, I think it is worth noting that Kobe Bryant is past his prime. People can debate Kobe and MJ from an all-time perspective if they want, but Jordan in 1992 was in his prime and Kobe in 2012 isn't. I don't think there is a debate to be had about who gets the advantage in this specific matchup. Kobe is 33, will be closer to 34 for the Olympics. He's still a great player without question, but he isn't as good as he once was. Specifically, he's lost a lot of his explosiveness and athleticism. We also have to keep in mind that the 1992 guys had less wear and tear on their legs at the same age because all of them played 3-4 years of college basketball.
January 17, 201214 yr Author Yeah, that is true but Kobe has proven that the experimental knew surgery was a success and he is currently the leading scorer in the NBA. While past his prime I'd still take 2012 Kobe over anyone not named MJ or Barkley on the 1992 team.
January 17, 201214 yr Original Dream Team has the name and the fame and they earned that right since they basically (along with MJ) took basketball global. BUT, IMO 2012 team is going to be sick. 2012 team hands down for me, on paper anyway. Different story when they start to play, but if they can play with each other and run a smooth offense and play D to their capabilities, they will not be stopped.

I guess that's what it comes down to me. It just seems to me (and this is totally my perception) that the 92 team was comprised of guys who, even though they may have been superstars on their own team, completely bought into the whole "team" concept. Right now, it seems like there's more "me" guys in the league. Will have to see how they gel as a cohesive unit. The other thing that pushes me towards the 92 team would be along the lines of the mental toughness that has already been mentioned.

But, if this team can come together like that I think they will end up being the better team. Lots of guys in the absolute prime of their careers on this team compared to a couple guys in their prime and the rest on the tail end of their prime for the 1992 team. K did a good job bringing the team together last time and squashing ego's, if he can do it again he will be coaching the best team of all time IMO. If he can't bring them together and buy them into the team concept then the 1992' Dream Team will remain supreme.
January 18, 201214 yr 1992 > than any team ever assembled You can end the thread now. Nuff said:thumb:

January 18, 201214 yr No brainer for me. Give me the 92 team all day every day! Athletes are bigger faster etc now days. Those 92 guys were much more savvy. More than anything all these guys playing right now still want to be like Mike! Did anybody watch LeBron on the road last week? If they game is on the line 100 times I'm putting the ball in MJ's hands every time over anybody in the league right now. I'm not sure younger people understand how much he imposed his will in the clutch! Great clothes yes. He was even more clutch though. That whole team was the best ever assembled!
January 18, 201214 yr Some of you guys are showing your age. The athleticism of the 2012 team would be too much for the 92 team IMO. Could a recently injury-induced, retired Larry Bird do anything against someone like LeBron James, I don't see it? How would the retired Magic Johnson do against DRose or CP3? Would he have an advantage? MJ is the greatest but I'd take a duo of Kobe and DWade going at him for a full game with DHoward protecting the basket any day. 92 team was great but they would have by far the two worst players on the floor in Leattner and Mullin. In the modern game with the way basketball is refereed now, 2012 team is a double digit favorite IMO.
January 18, 201214 yr Author ^ My thought process is very similar to Cats. I am one of the few old guys not enamored by the names of 1992 and looking at the whole scope of the game. Why people think LeBron would be a factor at the end of the game when Kobe, Wade and Durant are on the floor is comedy. Go rebound for them Bron in the 4th quarter is all he has to do.
